In the southern coastal area of Finland, many studies exist on shore displacements related to the higher Ancylus Lake and Litorina Sea altitudes. However, the late- Holocene shore displacement history is much less known and the shore displacement models are based on interpolations. Kruunuvuorenlampi, a small lake located at an altitude of 8.6 m a.s.l., was studied to test the reliability of the interpolated models. The cores revealed an unusual bottom lithostratigraphy, with a coarse gravel and sand layer sandwiched between the lower marine clays and upper shallow-water clay-gyttja. Analysis of diatoms, pollen and loss-on-ignition, together with radiocarbon datings, were carried out to determine and date the isolation event of the lake. The results show that the lake was isolated ca. 2400 14C years BP and that the coarse grained layer was deposited prior to the isolation. The reconstruction of the emergence of the lake basin area suggests that the coarse grained layer originated from strong wave erosion of the shores before the isolation. This interpretation is supported by the presence of a wave-washed boulder belt on the NE slope of the basin. The isolation of Kruunuvuorenlampi lies exactly on the interpolated shore displacement model of the 30 m Litorina isobase. This placement suggests that no significant transgressions took place between the Litorina transgression and the isolation of Kruunuvuorenlampi.  相似文献

We have analyzed five solar energetic particle (SEP) events observed aboard the SOHO spacecraft during 1996–1997. All events were associated with impulsive soft X-ray flares, Type II radio bursts and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Most attention is concentrated on the SEP acceleration during the first 100 minutes after the flare impulsive phase, post-impulsive-phase acceleration, being observed in eruptions centered at different solar longitudes. As a representative pattern of a (nearly) well-connected event, we consider the west flare and CME of 9 July 1996 (S10 W30). Similarities and dissimilarities of the post-impulsive-phase acceleration at large heliocentric-angle distance from the eruption center are illustrated with the 24 September 1997 event (S31 E19). We conclude that the proton acceleration at intermediate scales, between flare acceleration and interplanetary CME-driven shock acceleration, significantly contributes to the production of ≳10 MeV protons. This post-impulsive-phase acceleration seems to be caused by the CME lift-off.  相似文献

Two varve counts made nearly 20 yrs apart and by different authors in the small and well sheltered meromictic lake of Valkiajärvi were compared with a view to establishing how similar, or otherwise, these two independent varve chronologies might be. The results were significant, the difference between the two varve counts being less than 2% for most of the sediment length, even though the average varve thickness was only 0.3 mm. The continuous and essentially uniform varve record - so far the longest in Finland - covers 8400 yrs and could be applied for accurate dating of palaeoenvironmental indicators in the sediment. As an example, we present a varve-dated pollen diagram for Lake Valkiajärvi.In addition, some magnetic parameters (susceptibility, ARM, SIRM) were measured on the sediment sequence to support the stratigraphic division and correlation of the cores, and to outline the development of the basin since the last deglaciation. Magnetic variables reflected mainly the variation in minerogenic material in the sediment, and were therefore related to changes in the catchment. The magnetic parameters also showed a drastic change some 6000 yrs ago, the reason for which, unfortunately, is still not fully understood.  相似文献

The Mekong Basin in southeast Asia is facing rapid development, impacting its hydrology and sediment dynamics. Although the understanding of the sediment transport rates in the Mekong is gradually growing, the sediment dynamics in the lower Mekong floodplains (downstream from Kratie) are poorly understood. The aim of this study is to conduct an analysis to increase the understanding of the sediment dynamics at the Chaktomuk confluence of the Mekong River, and the Tonle Sap River in the Lower Mekong River in Cambodia. This study is based on the data from a detailed field survey over the three hydrological years (May 2008–April 2011) at the two sites (the Mekong mainstream and the Tonle Sap River) at the Chaktomuk confluence. We further compared the sediment fluxes at Chaktomuk to an upstream station (i.e. Mukdahan) with longer time series. Inflow sediment load towards the lake was lower than that of the outflow, with a ratio on average of 84%. Although annually only a small amount of sediment load from the Tonle Sap contributes to the delta (less than 15%), its share is substantial during the February–April period. The annual sediment load transport from the confluence to the delta in 2009 and 2010 accounted for 54 and 50 Mt, respectively. This was on average only 55% of the sediment fluxes measured at Mukdahan, a more upstream station. Furthermore when compared to sediment loads further downstream at the Cambodia–Vietnam border, we found that the suspended sediment flux continued to decline towards the South China Sea. Our findings thus indicate that the sediment load to the South China Sea is much lower than the previous estimate 150–160 Mt/yr. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, we assess the potential of X-band Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery for automated classification of sea ice over the Baltic Sea. A bistatic SAR scene acquired by the TanDEM-X mission over the Bothnian Bay in March of 2012 was used in the analysis. Backscatter intensity, interferometric coherence magnitude, and interferometric phase have been used as informative features in several classification experiments. Various combinations of classification features were evaluated using Maximum likelihood (ML), Random Forests (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers to achieve the best possible discrimination between open water and several sea ice types (undeformed ice, ridged ice, moderately deformed ice, brash ice, thick level ice, and new ice). Adding interferometric phase and coherence-magnitude to backscatter-intensity resulted in improved overall classification per- formance compared to using only backscatter-intensity. The RF algorithm appeared to be slightly superior to SVM and ML due to higher overall accuracies, however, at the expense of somewhat longer processing time. The best overall accuracy (OA) for three methodologies were achieved using combination of all tested features were 71.56, 72.93, and 72.91% for ML, RF and SVM classifiers, respectively. Compared to OAs of 62.28, 66.51, and 63.05% using only backscatter intensity, this indicates strong benefit of SAR interferometry in discriminating different types of sea ice. In contrast to several earlier studies, we were particularly able to successfully discriminate open water and new ice classes.  相似文献

Tonle Sap Lake (TSL) is one of the world's most productive lacustrine ecosystems, driven by the Mekong River's seasonal flood pulse. This flood pulse and its long-term dynamics under the Mekong River basin's (MRB) fast socio-economic development and climate change need to be identified and understood. However, existing studies fall short of sufficient time coverage or concentrate only on changes in water level (WL) that is only one of the critical flood pulse parameters influencing the flood pulse ecosystem productivity. Considering the rapidly changing hydroclimatic conditions in the Mekong basin, it is crucial to systematically analyse the changes in multiple key flood pulse parameters. Here, we aim to do that by using observed WL data for 1960–2019 accompanied with several parameters derived from a Digital Bathymetry Model. Results show significant declines of WL and inundation area from the late 1990s in the dry season and for the whole year, on top of increased subdecadal variability. Decreasing (increasing) probabilities of high (low) inundation area for 2000–2019 have been found, in comparison to the return period of inundation area for 1986–2000 (1960–1986). The mean seasonal cycle of daily WL in dry (wet) season for 2000–2019, compared to that for 1986–2000, has shifted by 10 (5) days. Significant correlations and coherence changes between the WL and large-scale circulations (i.e., El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)), indicate that the atmospheric circulations could have influenced the flood pulse in different time scales. Also, the changes in discharge at the Mekong mainstream suggest that anthropogenic drivers may have impacted the high water levels in the lake. Overall, our results indicate a declining flood pulse since the late 1990s.  相似文献

Software for presentation of geochemical data on maps has been integrated into a user-friendly package, ALKEMIA, at the Geological Survey of Finland (GSF). ALKEMIA contains procedures for generating dot maps, colour surface maps, shaded relief maps, and vector images, and for interpolating and smoothing irregularly gridded data. Combining dots and colour surfaces provides a means of visually integrating up to three variables on a map, revealing the spatial relationships between them. The methods employed are described in detail, particularly the moving weighted median, which has been widely used at the GSF for interpolating and smoothing geochemical and other numerical data. Several geochemical and oncological atlases and series of maps have been produced with these methods.  相似文献
