Modeling fractionally integrated maximum temperature series in India in presence of structural break

In this study, the long memory behaviour of monthly maximum temperature of India for the period 1901 to 2007 is investigated. The correlogram of the series reveals a slow hyperbolic decay, a typical shape for time series having the long memory property. Wavelet transformation is applied to decompose the temperature series into time–frequency domain in order to study the local as well as global variation over different scale and time epochs. Significant increasing trend is found in the maximum temperature series in India. The rate of increase in maximum temperature accelerated after 1960s as compared to the earlier period. Here, an attempt is also made to detect the structural break for seasonally adjusted monthly maximum temperature series. It is found that there is a significant break in maximum temperature during July, 1963. Two-stage forecasting (TSF) approach to deal with the coexistence of long memory and structural change in temperature pattern is discussed thoroughly. The forecast performance of the fitted model is assessed on the basis of relative mean absolute prediction error (RMAPE), sum of squared errors (SSE) and mean squared errors (MSE) for different forecast horizons. 相似文献

Stress accumulated in rocks in tectonically active areas may manifest itself as electromagnetic radiation emission and temperature
variation through a process of energy transformation. Land surface temperature (LST) changes before an impending earthquake
can be detected with thermal infrared (TIR) sensors such as NOAA-AVHRR, Terra/Aqua-MODIS, etc. TIR anomalies produced by 10
recent earthquakes in Iran during the period of Jun 2002–Jun 2006 in the tectonically active belt have been studied using
pre- and post-earthquake NOAA-AVHRR datasets. Data analysis revealed a transient TIR rise in LST ranging 2–13°C in and around
epicentral areas. The thermal anomalies started developing about 1–10 days prior to the main event depending upon the magnitude
and focal depth, and disappeared after the main shock. In the case of moderate earthquakes (<6 magnitude) a dual thermal peak
instead of the single rise has been observed. This may lead us to understand that perhaps pre-event sporadic release of energy
from stressed rocks leads to a reduction in magnitude of the main shock. This TIR temperature increment prior to an impending
earthquake can be attributed to degassing from rocks under stress or to p-hole activation in the stressed rock volume and
their further recombination at the rock–air interface. A precise correlation of LST maps of Bam and Zarand with InSAR-generated
deformation maps also provides evidence that the thermal anomaly is a ground-related phenomenon, not an atmospheric one. 相似文献

The Aravalli–Delhi Mobile Belt in the northwestern partof India demonstrates how granulite enclaves and their hostgneisses can be utilized to unravel multistage metamorphic historiesof orogenic belts, using three suites of metamorphic rocks:(1) an enclave of pelitic migmatite gneiss–leptynite gneiss;(2) metamorphosed megacrystic granitoids, intrusive into theenclave; (3) host tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorite(TTG) gneisses associated with an interlayered sequence of garnetiferousmetabasite and psammo-pelitic schist, locally migmatitic. Basedon integrated structural, petrographic, mineral compositional,geothermobarometric studies and P–T pseudosection modellingin the systems NCKFMASH and NCFMASH, we record three distincttectonothermal events: an older, medium-pressure granulite-faciesmetamorphic event (M1) in the sillimanite stability field, whichis registered only in the enclave, a younger, kyanite-gradehigh-pressure granulite-facies event (M2), common to all thethree litho-associations, and a terminal amphibolite-faciesmetamorphic overprint (M3). The high-P granulite facies eventhas a clockwise P–T loop with a well-constrained prograde,peak (M2, P 12–15 kbar, T 815°C) and retrograde (M2R,6·1 kbar, T 625°C) metamorphic history. M3 is recordedparticularly in late shear zones. When collated with availablegeochronological data, the metamorphic P–T conditionsprovide the first constraint of crustal thickening in this belt,leading to the amalgamation of two crustal blocks during a collisionalorogeny of possible Early Mesoproterozoic age. Titan’s north polar hydrocarbon lakes offer a unique opportunity to indirectly characterize the statistical properties of Titan’s landscape. The complexity of a shoreline can be related to the complexity of the landscape it is embedded in through fractal theory. We mapped the shorelines of 290 of the north polar titanian lakes in the Cassini synthetic aperture radar dataset. Out of these, we used a subset of 190 lake shorelines for our analysis. The fractal dimensions of the shorelines were calculated via two methods: the divider/ruler method and the box-counting method, at length scales of (1-10) km and found to average 1.27 and 1.32, respectively. The inferred power-spectral exponent of Titan’s topography (β) from theoretical and empirical relations is found to be ?2, which is lower than the values obtained from the global topography of the Earth or Venus. Some of the shorelines exhibit multi-fractal behavior (different fractal dimensions at different scales), which we interpret to signify a transition from one set of dominant surface processes to another. We did not observe any spatial variation in the fractal dimension with latitude; however we do report significant spatial variation of the fractal dimension with longitude. A systematic difference between the dimensions of orthogonal sections of lake shorelines is also noted, which signifies possible anisotropy in Titan’s topography. The topographic information thus gleaned can be used to constrain landscape evolution modeling to infer the dominant surface processes that sculpt the landscape of Titan. 相似文献

In recent times, rapid urbanisation coupled with scarcity of land forces several structures to come up ever closer to each
other, which may sometime cause severe damage to the structures from both strength and serviceability point of view, and therefore,
a need is felt to devise simplified methods to capture the effect of footing interference. In the present study, an attempt
has been made to model the settlement behaviour of two strip footings placed in close spacing on layered soil deposit consisting
of a strong top layer underlying a weak bottom layer. Theory of elasticity is employed to derive the governing differential
equations and subsequently solved by the finite difference method. The perfectly rough strip footings are considered to be
resting on the surface of two-layer soil system, and the soil is assumed to behave as linear elastic material under a range
of static foundation load. The effect of various parameters such as the elastic moduli and thickness of two layers, clear
spacing between the footings and footing load on the settlement behaviour of closely spaced footings has been determined.
The variation of vertical normal stress at the interface of two different soil layers as well as at the base of the failure
domain also forms an important part of this study. The results are presented in terms of settlement ratio (ξδ), and their variation is obtained with the change in clear spacing between two footings. The present theoretical investigation
indicates that the settlement of closely spaced footings is found to be higher than that of single isolated footing, which
further reduces with increase in the spacing between the footings. 相似文献

A Paleocene granodiorite pluton on Jamaica has been subject to extensive weathering caused by the tropical marine environment of the island. The natural remanence of 29 samples obtained from relatively fresh rock in two localities was found to consist of two components with overlapping coercivity ranges. Alternating field treatment proved ineffective for removing the secondary component without destroying the primary one. Thermal demagnetization of samples from the two localities was more effective and yielded paleomagnetic poles at 14.7°N, 11.6°W and 58.9°N, 15.9°E respectively. These pole positions are different from those available from contemporaneous North American rocks and from poles derived from Jamaican Cretaceous and Upper Miocene rocks. Mineralogical studies showed that the granodiorite has undergone an extensive maghemitization superposed on earlier class 2 deuteric oxidation and related to the weathering process. Some of the titanomaghemite has, however, been converted to titanohematite. Hence although the secondary remanence carried by the former was removable by thermal treatment at 500°C, its part carried by the latter could not be removed without simultaneously destroying the primary remanence carried by the residual titanomagnetite. The observed paleopole positions do not, therefore, represent the true Paleocene geomagnetic field, but suggest that the direction of magnetization of the pluton has been approximately equatorial and was probably acquired in a reversed geomagnetic field. This could be interpreted as having been caused by the behavior of the geomagnetic field during a polarity transition, but a more favorable interpretation appears to be a large anticlockwise tectonic rotation of the islands since the Paleocene. 相似文献

Exsolution textures in orthopyroxene in aluminous granulites as indicators of UHT metamorphism: New evidence from the Eastern Ghats Belt, India 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Highly aluminous orthopyroxene, coexisting with sapphirine, cordierite, sillimanite, quartz and garnet in various combinations, constitute granoblastic mosaic peak metamorphic assemblages in aluminous granulites from three localities in the Eastern Ghats Belt, India. Orthopyroxene contains four types of intergrowths: (a) involving sapphirine with or without cordierite, (b) involving spinel, but without sapphirine, (c) involving cordierite, but without sapphirine and spinel, and (d) involving garnet, without sapphirine, spinel or cordierite. On the basis of textural and compositional data, origin of the intergrowths is ascribed to breakdown of Mg-Tschermak component, locally also involving Fe- and Ti-Tschermak. An attempt is made to compute the “pre-breakdown” compositions of orthopyroxene by image analysis, which shows maximum Al2O3 content of 13.4 wt.% in the pristine orthopyroxene. Geothermometry, phase equilibria consideration and application of existing experimental data on alumina solubility in orthopyroxene coexisting with sapphirine and quartz, collectively indicate extreme thermal conditions of metamorphism (> 1000 °C) for the studied assemblages. This re-affirms the notion that Al2O3 solubility in orthopyroxene is the most powerful indicator of UHT metamorphism (Harley, S.L., 2004. The intergrowths are considered to have formed due to cooling from the thermal peak spanning a temperature range of approximately 150 °C. Ilvaite, Ca(Fe2+, Fe3+)Fe2+Si2O8(OH), a black mixed valence iron silicate shows considerable Fe2+?Fe3+ electron delocalization above 400 K, reminiscent of magnetite. A crystallographic phase transition from orthorhombic (Pnam) to monoclinic (P2 1/a) symmetry takes place on cooling at 343 K induced by electron ordering. In both phases, Fe2+ and Fe3+ occur in double octahedral chains parallel to the c axis. The thermal characteristics of the magnetic susceptibilities and their anisotropies in different crystallographic planes have been measured in the temperature range 400?21 K. Below 343±1K, a continuous rotation of the molar susceptibility K ∥ in the ab plane down to 90±2 K is observed, where the symmetry of the magnetic ellipsoid remains unchanged. X a, X b and X c increase abruptly below 123±0.5 K, although antiferromagnetic ordering of Fe2+ and Fe3+ spins on A sites was suggested in previous Mössbauer and neutron powder diffraction studies. In addition, 1/X a shows an antiferromagnetic maximum at 50±3 K, whereas 1/X b and 1/X c at first increase sharply below 123 K, followed by antiferromagnetic curvatures in the lowest temperature region. This behavior is consistent with the antiferromagnetic ordering of Fe2+ spins in the B sites. The observed magnetic phenomena suggest charge delocatization effects between adjacent Fe2+(A)-Fe3+(A) pairs not only along c, but also along a and b directions. The negative sign of the molar anisotropy (K ∥-K⊥) suggests a singlet ground State 5A1 for the Fe2+ ions, in agreement with previous Mössbauer studies. 相似文献

Charged dust grains of radiia3×10–63×10–5 cm may be driven out of the galaxy due to radiation pressure of starlight. Once clear of the main gas-dust layer, dust grains may then escape into intergalactic space. Such grains are virtually indestructible-being evaporated only during galaxy formation. The dust grains, once injected into the intergalactic medium, may acquire suprathermal energy, thus suprathermal grains in collision with magnetized cloud by the Fermi process. In order to attain relativistic energy, suprathermal grains have to move in and out (scattering) of the magnetic field of the medium. It is now well established that high energy cosmic rays are of the order 1020 eV or more. We have speculated that these high energy (>-1018 eV) cosmic ray particles are charged dust grains, of intergalactic origin. This is possible only if there exists a magnetic field in the intergalactic medium. 相似文献
