Summary The planetary albedo of the earth has been evaluated from the turbidity measurements in India by usingÅngström's empirical relation [1]2) and the same has been presented in this paper. The diurnal and seasonal variations of the planetary albedo have been discussed. It has been found that during the morning hours, albedo is usually more than that during afternoon hours. Further, it shows a minima during winter season and a maxima during hot summer months.  相似文献

Summary The probability of occurrences of thundery weather over Gauhati airport has been investigated. During the pre-monsoon thunderstorm period, the months of April and May have higher probabilities for the occurrences of thundery weather and the month of March has, on average, medium probabilities. The probability for thundery weather, during the months of March and April, is the highest during >18 to 24 h and then decreases successively during 00 to 06 h, >12 to 18 h and >06 to 12 h in order. The month of May, being the transition season for sharp decrease of nor' westers, is an exception. The months June to September, during monsoon season, have high probabilities for a day being thundery; but the month of October, during which monsoon virtually withdraws, shows decreasing trend in probabilities for successive date-groups. During the whole of the monsoon months, the time-groups >12 to 18 h, >18 to 24 h, 00 to 06 h and >06 to 12 h rank first, second, third and fourth in the order of probability for a day being thundery.In April and May, the probabilities for the occurrences of thundery weather of MLL, LL and VLL groups are higher, but in the month of March, the probabilities for the occurrences of first two groups are higher and the third group has medium probability. During the months June to September, in the monsoon season, the probability for thundery weather of MLL and LL groups are higher but that of VLL group has the medium probability; during the month of October — the last month for monsoon season — MLL and LL have higher and medium probabilities for the occurrences of thundery weather.  相似文献

This paper indexes rural male out-migration and explains changing intensity patterns in Uttar Pradesh, India, since 1961. The sex ratio among non-migrants serves as an indicator of regional variations in rural out-migration. The paper highlights 2 population divergence zones in the underdeveloped Northern hilly and Eastern plain regions. The process of infrastructural development combined with cultural factors and inadequate employment opportunities seem to stimulate rural outmigration. Regional imbalance in economic development seems to be working as a suction economic system. The developed regions in India are utilizing the labor force of backward areas. The number of districts of high and moderately high rural male outmigration has increased, reflecting a wider gap between individual income and regional inequality. Unless the process is reversed in favor of rural areas, strategies for development will only work in capitalistic frameworks which serve the interests of developed regions.  相似文献

Summary A theoretical solution is obtained for the problem of a three and four layered earth model with transitional boundary. In practice, the transition layer can stand for fresh water bearing sand and fine gravels. Summary This paper is an attempt to study the aftershock sequence of the Solomon Island as outlined by Benioff. Relaxation time and other parameters of this earthquake such as the strain, stress, length of fault break etc, have been calculated. Finally the development of the aftershock region has been discussed along with the frequency magnitude analysis of the aftershock sequence.  相似文献

Summary The technique for evaluating the natural illumination of direct solar radiation introduced byÅngström andDrummond [1]2) has been applied by the authors to the pyrheliometric observations in India and the values of natural illumination derived at eight representative stations are presented in this paper. The dirunal and seasonal variations of the illumination fluxes have been discussed. —In general, illumination fluxes in India show a maximum during summer season except at Madras, where the maximum occurs during winter. The illumination fluxes at various stations vary within the range 80–110 kilolux throughout the year. However, at Calcutta, it varies within a rather narrow range of 65–85 kilolux. Both in summer and winter, the illumination flux during forenoon hours is usually more than that during afternoon hours. An increase in daylight illumination is observed with height of the station above sea level.  相似文献

Summary The present day distribution of plants shows that certain environments are characterised by certain plant communities peculiar to them. The environmental condition under which the fossil plant, lived, are interpreted from the habitats under which their modern equivalent live. Environment is necessarily the surrounding condition influences or forces by which living things are influenced or modified in their growth and subsequent development. Climate has perhaps played the most significant role in regulating the environment of a particular region. As we know geologically India is divisible into three units (1) Peninsular, (2) Extra Peninsular and (3) Indo-Gangetic plain. The tertiary floras of India can conveniently be divided into two groups-Palaeogene and Neogene. As known today, Palaeogene flora is found only in the Peninsular India. The palaeogene flora is analysed at family level and also determined the percentages of exclusively tropical, mainly tropical, tropical and Extra-tropical, mainly Extratropical and exclusively Extratropical families. Relationship between the Palaeogene families and living tropical families is proposed as a means of evaluating the palaeoclimate of the region.  相似文献

Summary This paper describes a study of the fluctuations in total atmospheric ozone amount as measured with a Dobson Spectrophotometer during the summer season over three north Indian stations, using the technique of power spectrum analysis. In all 19 spectra have been constructed. The long term trend was removed by applying a high pass filter. The main conclusions are: (1) The nature of the spectrum at a station generally differs from year to year. (2) Spectra of different stations during the same year, are generally different. (3) From the significance study of the spectral peaks, most of the spectra revealed the presence of two types of periodicities. One of these is in the range of 10–17 days while the other is found to have a range of 4.5–8.3 days. (4) It has been suggested that the former periodicity may be closely linked to the index cycle, while the latter may be related to the long waves in the Westerlies.  相似文献
