New Earth observation missions and technologies are delivering large amounts of data. Processing this data requires developing and evaluating novel dimensionality reduction approaches to identify the most informative features for classification and regression tasks. Here we present an exhaustive evaluation of Guided Regularized Random Forest (GRRF), a feature selection method based on Random Forest. GRRF does not require fixing a priori the number of features to be selected or setting a threshold of the feature importance. Moreover, the use of regularization ensures that features selected by GRRF are non-redundant and representative. Our experiments based on various kinds of remote sensing images, show that GRRF selected features provides similar results to those obtained when using all the available features. However, the comparison between GRRF and standard random forest features shows substantial differences: in classification, the mean overall accuracy increases by almost 6% and, in regression, the decrease in RMSE almost reaches 2%. These results demonstrate the potential of GRRF for remote sensing image classification and regression. Especially in the context of increasingly large geodatabases that challenge the application of traditional methods.  相似文献

The Mangshan Plateau is located on the south bank of the Huang He (Yellow River) just west of the city of Zhengzhou, well outside the Loess Plateau in central China. Mixing models of the grain‐size data indicate that the loess deposits are mixtures of three loess components. Comparison of the mixing model with existing models established for a series of loess–palaeosol sequences from the Loess Plateau indicates that the Mangshan loess has been supplied from a proximal dust source, the Huang He floodplain, during major dust outbreaks. The high accumulation rates, the composition of the loess components, and especially the high proportions of a sandy loess component support this. Owing to the exceptionally high accumulation rates, the Mangshan grain size, magnetic susceptibility and carbonate records provide a high‐resolution archive of environmental and climate change. Two distinct age estimates for eclogite-facies metamorphism in the Sanbagawa belt have been proposed: (i) c.  120–110 Ma based on a zircon SHRIMP age for the Western Iratsu unit and (ii) c.  88–89 Ma based on a garnet–omphacite Lu–Hf isochron age from the Seba and Kotsu eclogite units. Despite the contrasting estimates of formation ages, petrological studies suggest the formation conditions of the Western Iratsu unit are indistinguishable from those of the other two units—all ∼20 kbar and 600–650 °C. Studies of the associated geological structures suggest the Seba and Western Iratsu units are parts of a larger semi-continuous eclogite unit. A combination of geochronological and petrological studies for the Western Iratsu eclogite offers a resolution to this discrepancy in age estimates. New Lu–Hf dating for the Western Iratsu eclogite yields an age of 115.9 ± 0.5 Ma that is compatible with the zircon SHRIMP age. However, petrological studies show that there was significant garnet growth in the Western Iratsu eclogite before eclogite facies metamorphism, and the early core growth is associated with a strong concentration of Lu. Pre-eclogite facies garnet (Grt1) includes epidote–amphibolite facies parageneses equilibrated at 550–650 °C and ∼10 kbar, and this is overgrown by prograde eclogite facies garnet (Grt2). The Lu–Hf age of c.  116 Ma is strongly skewed to the isotopic composition of Grt1 and is interpreted to reflect the age of the pre-eclogite phase. The considerable time gap ( c.  27 Myr) between the two Lu–Hf ages suggests they may be related to separate tectonic events or distinct phases in the evolution of the Sanbagawa subduction zone.  相似文献

Summary Upper amphibolite facies gneisses in the southern Indian Shield show local transformation into veins, clots and patches of orthopyroxene-bearing dry granulites (incipient charnockites). Depending upon the protolith composition, these desiccated zones are classified into ortho- and para-charnockites and have developed within rocks of distinct mineralogy and chemistry at different time intervals through the structurally-controlled influx of carbon dioxide-rich fluids. Our geochemical investigations at five critical quarry sections indicate that the incipient charnockites have undepleted chemistry and very low K/Rb values. In the paracharnockite localities, where granulite formation is characterized by consumption of garnet, biotite and quartz to produce orthopyroxene, loss of Rb and Ba and enrichment of Ti are observed. In contrast, the orthocharnockite localities show marked LILE enrichment with gain of K, Rb and Ba and loss of CaO, suggesting extensive replacement of plagioclase in the gneisses by K-feldspar in the charnockite through K-Na-Ca exchange reactions with influxing carbonic fluids. The marked depletion in Fe, Mg, Ti and P in these rocks correlates with progressive dissolution of hornblende, biotite, magnetite and accessory apatite. Our study indicates that gneiss to granulite transformation, even if on a local scale, is not an isochemical phenomenon, but attended by distinct element mobilities, although they are contrastingly different from the geochemical trends in some regional high grade terrains.
Geochemie von Gneiss-Granulit-Übergängen in den Incipient Charnockite Zonen von Süd-Indien
Zusammenfassung Gneise der oberen Amphibolit-Fazies im Südteil des Indischen Schildes zeigen lokal Umwandlungen in Adern, and unregelmäßigen Bereichen von orthopyroxen-führenden trockenen Granuliten (Incipient Charnockites). In Abhängigkeit von der Zusammensetzung des Ausgangsgesteins werden diese Zonen in Ortho- und Paracharnockite eingeteilt. Sie entwickelten sich in Gesteinen von charakteristischer mineralogischer und chemischer Zusammensetzung zu verschiedenen Zeit-Intervallen durch die tektonisch kontrollierte Zufuhr von kohlendioxid-reichen Fluiden. Unsere geochemischen Untersuchungen an fünf strategisch ausgewählten Steinbruchen zeigen, daß die Incipient Charnockite eine nicht verarmte chemische Zusammensetzung und sehr niedrige K/Rb Werte haben. In den Paracharnockit-Lokalitäten, wo Granulitbildung charakterisiert wird durch das Verschwinden von Granat, Biotit und Quartz, aus denen Orthopyroxene gebildet werden, ist Verlust von Rb und Ba und Anreicherung an Ti zu beobachten. Im Gegensatz dazu zeigen die Orthocharnockite eindeutige LILE Anreicherung mit Zunahme von K, Rb, und Ba und Verlust von Ca0. Dies weist auf extensiven Ersatz von Plagioklas in den Gneisen durch K-Feldspat in den Charnockiten durch K-Na-Ca Austausch-Reaktionen mit zugeführten C02-Fluiden hin. Die deutliche Verarmung an Fe, Mg, Ti und P in diesen Gesteinen wird mit zunehmender Auflösung von Hornblende, Biotit, Magnetit und akzessorischem Apatit erKlärt. Unsere Untersuchungen zeigen, daß die Gneis-Granulit Transformation auch im lokalen Maßstab nicht ein isochemisches Phänomen ist, sondern durch charakteristische Elementtransporte charakterisiert wird. Diese unterscheiden sich jedoch deutlich von den geochemischen Trends, die in einigen regional-metamorphen high grade terrains zu beobachten sind.[/p]

A combined study of petrography, whole-rock major and trace elements as well as Rb?Sr and Sm?Nd isotopes, and mineral oxygen isotopes was carried out for two groups of low-T/UHP granitic gneiss in the Dabie orogen. The results demonstrate that metamorphic dehydration and partial melting occurred during exhumation of deeply subducted continent. Zircon δ18O values of ? 2.8 to + 4.7‰ for the gneiss are all lower than normal mantle values of 5.3 ± 0.3‰, consistent with 18O depletion of protolith due to high-T meteoric-hydrothermal alteration at mid-Neoproterozoic. Most samples have extremely low 87Sr/86Sr ratios at t1 = 780 Ma, but very high 87Sr/86Sr ratios at t2 = 230 Ma. This suggests intensive fluid disturbance due to the hydrothermal alteration of protoliths during Neoproterozoic magma emplacement and the metamorphic dehydration during Triassic continental collision. Rb–Sr isotopes, Th/Ta vs. La/Ta and Th/Hf vs. La/Nb relationships suggest that Group I gneiss experienced lower degrees of hydrothermal alteration, but higher degrees of dehydration, than Group II gneiss. The two groups of gneiss have similar patterns of REE and trace element partition. Group I gneiss displays good correlations between Nb and LREEs but no correlations between Nb and LILEs (Rb, Ba, Pb, Th and U), indicating differential mobilities of LILEs during the dehydration. Thus the correlation between Nb and LREEs is inherited from protolith rather than caused by metamorphic modification. Relative to Group I gneiss, Group II gneiss has stronger negative Eu anomaly, lower contents of Sr and Ba but higher contents of Rb, Th and U. In particular, Nb correlates with LILEs (e.g., Rb, Sr, Ba, Th and U), but not with LREEs (La and Ce). This may indicate decoupling between the dehydration and LILEs transport during continental collision. Furthermore, dehydration melting may have occurred due to breakdown of muscovite during “hot” exhumation. Group II gneiss has extremely low contents of FeO + MgO + TiO2 (1.04 to 2.08 wt.%), high SiO2 contents of 75.33 to 78.23 wt%, and high total alkali (Na2O + K2O) contents (7.52 to 8.92 wt.%), comparable with compositions predicted from partial melting of felsic rocks by experimental studies. Almost no UHP metamorphic minerals survived; felsic veins of fine-grain minerals occurs locally between coarse-grain minerals, resulting in a kind of metatexite migmatites due to dehydration melting without considerable escape of felsic melts from the host gneiss. In contrast, Group I gneiss only shows metamorphic dehydration. Therefore, the two groups of gneiss show contrasting behaviors of fluid–rock interaction during the continental collision.  相似文献

The Ras Al-Subiyah area is considered one of the most promising areas in Kuwait for future development. This development will include a new town called Subiyah and its associated infrastructure. This area is also being considered as the location for connection between Boubyan Island, which is now undergoing major development and the Kuwait mainland. The present study investigates the geomorphology of the Ras Al-Sabiyah area in the northern sector of Kuwait. The study area is generally flat, and it is located west of the Jal Az-Zor escarpment. It is bordered on the east by the Khor Al-Sabiyah tidal channel and on the south by Kuwait Bay. The area receives sediments from several sources; currently the most important are aeolian sediments and the deposition of mud delivered through the Khor Al-Sabiyah from the Iraqi marshes. The study area has been subjected to severe environmental changes due to the Gulf wars and the drainage of Iraqi marshes and the associated artificial changes in fluvial system. Twenty-two surface sediments were collected from the Ras Al-Subiyah area. Samples were collected to include the main geomorphologic characteristic features of the study area. Field observations and remote sensing images from 1990 and 2001 were used to produce an updated geomorphologic map for the Ras Al-Subiyah and a map showing geomorphic changes between 1990 and 2001. Grain size of the surface sediment ranges from gravel to medium sand. In general, grain size statistical analysis indicates that most of the areas are composed of two or more classes of sands transported and deposited from different sources including aeolian, sabkhas, river and the bays. The variability in the grain size statistical parameters may be attributed to the complexity of surface morphology as well as the diversity in the type of depositional environment in the Ras Al-Subiyah area. The total area subjected to change during the 12-year period (1990–2001) is about 32 km2 as calculated using GIS techniques.  相似文献

Speleothem fluid inclusions are a potential paleo-precipitation proxy to reconstruct past rainwater isotopic composition (δ18O, δD). To get a better insight in the extraction of inclusion water from heated speleothem calcite, we monitored the water released from crushed and uncrushed speleothem calcite, heated to 900 °C at a rate of 300 °C/h, with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Crushed calcite released water in three not well individualised peaks between 25 and 360 °C, 360 and 650 °C and between 650 and 800 °C while uncrushed calcite released water in two distinct temperature intervals: between 25 and 550 °C and between 550 and 900 °C.Water from two speleothems from the Han-sur-Lesse cave was recovered using three different techniques: i) the crushing and heating to 360 °C technique, ii) the decrepitation by heating to 550 °C and iii) the decomposition by heating to 900 °C technique. Measurements of the δD of water recovered by the decomposition of Han-sur-Lesse calcite heated to 900 °C did not show a 20 to 30‰ offset as found by previous authors. However a difference of 7‰ was observed between water released before and after decomposition of the calcite. Water recovery from the Han-sur-Lesse samples suggests that a simple heating technique (up to 550 °C) without crushing could both (a) recover water with δD representative of that of the drip water and (b) double the water yield as compared to the crushing and heating method.Our study warns for possible contamination of the recovered inclusion water with hydration water of lime, responsible for the recovery of water with very negative δD values.  相似文献

Spatial variations in grain-size parameters (i.e. grain-size trends) contain information on sediment transport patterns. Analytical procedures have been proposed using the grain-size trend to determine net sediment transport pathways. In the first part of this study, the fundamentals of the theory are presented through methods for analysing 1D and 2D variations. The methods used are critically discussed, while pointing out some severe problems. So far, these methods suffer from limitations leading to serious interpretational errors, making it necessary to take account of two kinds of uncertainties. Inputs uncertainties are linked to the physical sediment properties as well as procedures of sampling and analysis. Model uncertainties are then discussed for each step of the grain-size trend analysis. The validity of Sediment Trend Analysis under natural conditions is tested against published field studies to determine the most appropriate variation trend to use in a specific environment. Proposals are given for each step of the procedure for optimal use of the method using a Quality Assurance (QA) approach. Further developments are proposed, such as integration into a Geographic Information System.  相似文献

The sulfur isotopic composition of carbonate associated sulfate (CAS) has been used to investigate the geochemistry of ancient seawater sulfate. However, few studies have quantified the reliability of δ34S of CAS as a seawater sulfate proxy, especially with respect to later diagenetic overprinting. Pyrite, which typically has depleted δ34S values due to authigenic fractionation associated with bacterial sulfate reduction, is a common constituent of marine sedimentary rocks. The oxidation of pyrite, whether during diagenesis or sample preparation, could thus adversely influence the sulfur isotopic composition of CAS. Here, we report the results of CAS extractions using HCl and acetic acid with samples spiked with varying amounts of pyrite. The results show a very strong linear relationship between the abundance of fine-grained pyrite added to the sample and the resultant abundance and δ34S value of CAS. This data represents the first unequivocal evidence that pyrite is oxidized during the CAS extraction process. Our mixing models indicate that in samples with much less than 1 wt.% pyrite and relatively high δ34Spyrite values, the isotopic offset imparted by oxidation of pyrite should be much less than ? 4‰. A wealth of literature exists on the oxidation of pyrite by Fe3+ and we believe this mechanism drives the oxidation of pyrite during CAS extraction, during which the oxygen used to form sulfate is taken from H2O, not O2. Consequently, extracting CAS under anaerobic conditions would only slow, but not halt, the oxidation of pyrite. Future studies of CAS should attempt to quantify pyrite abundance and isotopic composition.  相似文献

The Newtonian viscosity of synthetic rhyolitic liquids with 0.15-5.24 wt% dissolved water was determined in the interval between 580 and 1640 °C and pressures of 1 atm and 5-25 kbar. Measurements were performed by combining static and accelerated (up to 1000g) falling sphere experiments on water-bearing samples, with high temperature concentric cylinder experiments on 0.15 wt% H2O melts. These methods allowed viscosity determinations between 102 and 107 Pa s, and cover the complete range of naturally occurring magmatic temperatures, pressures, and H2O-contents for rhyolites.Our viscosity data, combined with those from previous studies, were modeled by an expression based on the empirical Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann equation, which describes viscosities and derivative properties (glass transition temperature Tg, fragility m, and activation volume of viscous flow Va) of silicic liquids as a function of P-T-X(H2O). The fitted expressions do not account for composition-dependent parameters other than X(H2O) and reproduce the entire viscosity database for silicic liquids to within 3.0% average relative error on log η (i.e. std. error of estimate of 0.26 log units).The results yield the expected strong decrease of viscosity with temperature and water content, but show variable pressure dependencies. Viscosity results to be strongly affected by pressure at low pressures; an effect amplified at low temperatures and water contents. Fragility, as a measure for the deviation from Arrhenian behavior, decreases with H2O-content but is insensitive to pressure. Activation volumes are always largely negative (e.g., less than −10 cm3/mol) and increase strongly with H2O-content. Variations in melt structure that may account for the observed property variations are discussed.  相似文献
