Mineralogical studies of the heavy fraction from a Holocene pyrope-rich garnet placer deposit at Vestřev (Krkonoše Piedmont Basin, Bohemian Massif) have identified the presence of very rare grains of platinum group minerals (PGM). Pt–Fe alloy grains are accompanied by Os–Ir–Ru minerals (native osmium, iridium, and ruthenium) with inclusions of Pt–Fe alloy and hongshiite (PtCu). This mineral assemblage is typical for several mantle settings including ophiolites. The chemistry of the Os–Ir–Ru minerals shows an enrichment of the PGM in Ru, which is typical of ophiolites. The grain morphology of PGM and pyrope-rich garnet (mostly rounded with numerous euhedral/subhedral grains) does not exclude a common source. In-situ laser-ablation MC-ICP-MS was used to measure the Re–Os isotopic compositions of single Os-rich grains, which show heterogeneous subchondritic Os isotopic compositions (187Os/188Os = 0.12082–0.12505 ± 0.00003). This precludes their low-temperature origin and indicates derivation of platinum-group elements (PGEs) essentially from mantle-derived rocks without a significant contribution of crustal Os. The mantle model age (TMA) and Re-depletion model age (TRD) model ages range from ~ 0.4 to ~ 1.0 Ga and most likely reflect a long history of melt depletion that affected the mantle sources of PGM.  相似文献

A regional study of the continental margin between the Senja and Molloy-Spitsbergen fracture zones reveals that the transition from continental to oceanic crust occurs in a narrow zone beneath the outer shelf and uppermost slope. The postulated continent-ocean boundary appears to be fault-related consisting of sheared and rifted segments. The marginal structures are compatible with a plate tectonic model in which the southern Greenland Sea opened along a northeasterly propagating plate boundary in the Eocene, whereas the northern Greenland Sea started opening in the early Oligocene. The main structure at the margin is the Hornsund Fault Zone which probably reflects an old zone of weakness rejuvenated in the Tertiary, first by shear and later by extensional movements. In the early Tertiary local transpressional and transtensional components along the plate boundary are associated with the Spitsbergen Orogeny, emplacement of belts of high-density oceanic crust and tectonism in the western Barents Sea. A complex volcanic rifted margin characterized by the Bjørnøya Marginal High links the predominantly sheared margin segments on either side. The main ridge-like segment of the Hovgaard Fracture Zone was originally part of the Spitsbergen margin. In a regional sense, the Hornsund Fault Zone demarcates the eastern boundary of the Tertiary sedimentary wedge which reaches a total thickness of more than 7 km. There appears to have been a considerable increase in deposition of sediments the last 5–6 my. Depocentres located seaward of the east-west fjord systems and submarine depressions indicate a relationship between late Cenozoic glaciations and high sedimentation rates.  相似文献

On the basis of lake-level data, the period of the Preboreal oscillation (PBO) at 11 300–11 150 cal yr BP as defined by the GRIP oxygen-isotope record appears to correspond to wetter climatic conditions in west-central Europe and to a marked drying in north-central Italy. Additional short-lived phases of higher lake level have been identified before the PBO at ca 11 450–11 400 and 11 350 cal yr BP in west-central Europe, and at ca 11 500 cal yr BP in Italy. Such multiple climatic oscillations around the PBO have been observed in various records in northwestern Europe. On the basis of various proxies, a map of changes in moisture over western Europe during the PBO indicates a mid-latitude zone between 58 and 43°N characterised by wetter conditions, while a drier climate developed in southern and northern Europe. This wet middle zone shows a larger extension and suggests a more meandering, weaker Atlantic Westerly Jet during the PBO than during the 8.2 kyr event. A comparison of lake-level records in west-central Europe with (1) outbursts from North American and north-European proglacial lakes, and (2) variations in solar activity as reflected by 14C and the 10Be records supports the hypothesis that the PBO was a response to successive meltwater pulses at 11 300, 11 250, 11 200 and 11 170 cal yr BP and to a sudden decrease in solar activity at 11 250 cal yr BP. This study points to the necessity of developing integrated multi-proxy approaches to construct more robust regional event stratigraphies, and of better documenting palaeohydrological changes in the Mediterranean area.  相似文献

An important constraint on the reliability of cosmogenic nuclide exposure dating is the rigorous determination of production rates. We present a new dataset for 10Be production rate calibration from Mount Billingen, southern Sweden, the site of the final drainage of the Baltic Ice Lake, an event dated to 11,620 ± 100 cal yr BP. Five samples of flood-scoured bedrock surfaces (58.5°N, 13.7°E, 105–120 m a.s.l.) unambiguously connected to the drainage event yield a reference 10Be production rate of 4.19 ± 0.20 atoms g−1 yr−1 for the CRONUS-Earth online calculator Lm scaling and 4.02 ± 0.18 atoms g−1 yr−1 for the nuclide specific LSDn scaling. We also recalibrate the reference 10Be production rates for four sites in Norway and combine three of these with the Billingen results to derive a tightly clustered Scandinavian reference 10Be production rate of 4.13 ± 0.11 atoms g−1 yr−1 for the CRONUS Lm scaling and 3.95 ± 0.10 atoms g−1 yr−1 for the LSDn scaling scheme.  相似文献
