The original ore-fluid of the Huogeqi Cu–Pb–Zn deposit in Inner Mongolia, northern China, was enriched in heavy oxygen isotopes with δ18O values ranging from 9.9 to 11.4 per mil, which is characteristic of the metamorphic devolatilization of pelitic rocks. The δD values determined by direct measurement of syn-ore hydrothermal tremolite range from − 116 to − 82 per mil, lying between the domains of typical metamorphic fluid and meteoric water, which is in equilibrium with organic matter. Oxygen and hydrogen isotope ratios indicate that the ore-fluid was derived from deep-sourced metamorphic fluid and interacted with organic-rich shale during fluid migration, which is consistent with the fluid evolution history revealed by a previous fluid inclusion study. Sulfides in the deposit are characteristically enriched in heavy S isotopes, with an average δ34S value of 13.4 ± 6.2 per mil (1σ, n = 103). The S-isotope ratios are identical to stratabound sulfides generated through the non-bacterial reduction of Neoproterozoic marine sulfate (with δ34S values of ~ 17 per mil). Previous studies on lead isotopes of sulfides revealed that the ore-forming metals (Cu, Pb, and Zn) at the Huogeqi deposit were also remobilized from a stratabound source. This source was syngenetically elevated in its Cu-, Pb-, and Zn-sulfide content as a result of submarine hydrothermal activities forming sulfide-rich layers within a rift tectonic setting. The Fe isotope ratios for sulfides are consistent with those of an intercalated iron-formation within the ore-hosting rocks, suggesting that the Fe in the sulfides was derived from local host rocks during sulfide precipitation and the Fe-rich rocks are favorable lithological units for high-grade mineralization. The heterogeneous sources of ore-fluid, S, ore-forming metals, and Fe are explained by a multistage genetic model, which is supported by the geological characteristic of the deposit. The enriched sulfides were subsequently remobilized and enriched by metamorphic devolatilization during the Permian and Triassic periods. The metamorphic ore-fluid ascended along a shear zone and interacted with organic-rich shale. Sulfides eventually precipitated within the shear zone at a shallower crustal level, especially where the shear zone intersected Fe-rich host rocks. This multistage genetic model has implications for mineral exploration. Greenschist to amphibolite facies terranes containing thick Neoproterozoic rift sequences are ideal regions for potential Cu–Pb–Zn mineralization. In particular, intercalated volcanic rocks within the rift sequences are indicative of high heat-flow and are ideal for the development of submarine hydrothermal systems. The primary structures hosting mineralization and ore shoots in the Huogeqi area are jogs in the shear zones. In addition, Fe-rich lithological units, such as iron-formations, are ideal hosts for high-grade ore.  相似文献

Analysis and summary of publications on southern East Sayan, eastern Tuva, and northern Mongolia have shown that the late Pleistocene glaciation covered a large area and had a complicated dynamics of glacier advance and retreat. Starting with MIS 5, the Todza Basin and, partly, the Oka Plateau, Azas Volcanic Plateau, Mondy Basin, and river valleys in southern East Sayan were periodically covered with ice. The thickness of ice in the eastern Todza Basin was 700 m, on the Azas Volcanic Plateau it reached 300–600 m, and in the valleys of southern East Sayan it is estimated as 700–800 m. The thickness of ice in the Mondy Basin was 300–350 m.Geological and geomorphological studies and isotope surface exposure dating (10Be method) of boulders from terminal moraine complexes have provided evidence for extensive MIS 2 glacier advance in the Mondy Basin and in the Sentsa, Jombolok, and Sailag river valleys (southern East Sayan). The average age of exposure for three groups of samples is 14, 16, and 22 ka.  相似文献

Due to their common occurrence in various types of chondrites, igneous rims formed on pre-existing chondrules throughout chondrule-forming regions of the solar nebula. Although the peak temperatures are thought to reach similar values to those achieved during chondrule formation events, the heating duration in chondrule rim formation has not been well defined. We determined the two-dimensional chemical and oxygen isotopic distributions in an igneous rim of a chondrule within the Northwest Africa 3118 CV3oxA chondrite with sub-micrometer resolution using secondary ion mass spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy. The igneous rim experienced aqueous alteration on the CV parent body. The aqueous alteration resulted in precipitation of the secondary FeO-rich olivine (Fa40–49) and slightly disturbed the Fe-Mg distribution in the MgO-rich olivine phenocrysts (Fa11–22) at about a 1 μm scale. However, no oxygen isotopic disturbances were observed at a scale greater than 100 nm. The MgO-rich olivine, a primary phase of igneous rim formation, has δ17O = −6 ± 3‰ and δ18O = −1 ± 4‰, and some grains contain extreme 16O-rich areas (δ17O, δ18O = ∼−30‰) nearly 10 μm across. We detected oxygen isotopic migration of approximately 1 μm at the boundaries of the extreme 16O-rich areas. Using oxygen self-diffusivity in olivine, the heating time of the igneous rim formation could have continued from several hours to several days at near liquidus temperatures (∼2000 K) in the solar nebula suggesting that the rim formed by a similar flash heating event that formed the chondrules.  相似文献

The ca. 700-km-long Yalu River Fault Zone (YRFZ) in East China, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, underwent a polyphase evolution during the Cretaceous when it controlled the development of rift basins interrupted by several shortening events. The East China continent lies in an overriding plate with respect to the subducting Paleo-Pacific Plate during the Cretaceous. The YRFZ is ideal for studying the episodicity of stress state in the overriding plate. To constrain the polyphase evolution of the YRFZ, structural observations, fault-slip data measurements and LA–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating on Cretaceous volcanic rocks and sandstones were undertaken in this study. The first deformation (D1) is characterized by sinistral strike-slip shear in the earliest Cretaceous. The D2 event is featured by normal faulting deformation along the fault zone, which led to development of rift basins during the rest of the Early Cretaceous. Sinistral faulting (D3) developed again in the earliest Late Cretaceous, followed by dextral normal faulting (D4) and rift basin development during the rest of the Late Cretaceous, and finally reverse dextral faulting (D5) at the end of the Cretaceous. The fault-slip data show that compressional directions during D1, D3 and D5 faulting events are N–S, N–S and E–W respectively. Extensional directions during D2 and D4 faulting events are NW–SE and N–S. The zircon U–Pb ages indicate that the Early Cretaceous basins (D2 event) controlled by the YRFZ were active between 131 and 100 Ma, and the Late Cretaceous basins (D4 event) were active between 97 and 70 Ma. These U–Pb ages, together with previous geochronological data, show that the D1 and D3 episodes of compression each lasted 3 Ma, D2 extension lasted 31 Ma, and D4 extension 27 Ma. These data indicate an episodicity in the stress state with longer periods of extension and shorter periods of compression. A slab-driven model with relatively long periods of low-velocity subduction alternating with shorter periods of high-velocity subduction could account for the episodicity of stress state in the overriding plate from D1 to D5.  相似文献

In the area of a coastal fishing village on the mangrove peninsula of Bragança, State of Pará, North Brazil, coastal changes were observed by a beach profile monitoring programme between 1997 and 2001. The assessment allowed a subdivision of the region into four small coastal cells (1–3 km), partly exhibiting heavy erosion. A number of related socio-economic problems, such as loss of alternative income sources caused by the locally unpredictable erosion patterns were identified in three separate village sections. This results in a year-round dependence on seasonally low fishery incomes and increases the risk of poverty. Since limited options for action are available to the local population, different social groups have evolved different land use patterns, which in turn influence local coastal morphodynamics. Not only the hydrodynamic signature, but also the socio-economic organisation of a coastal community and the co-evolutionary path between these two variables thus indicate the state of a coastal system and the most promising policy actions towards sustainable coastal management.  相似文献

We present 21 radiocarbon dates on 19 charcoal samples from the sedimentary sequence preserved in Border Cave, South Africa. The background radiocarbon activity for charcoal from the cave was determined to be 0.050±0.018 percent modern carbon, from the analysis of a radiocarbon-dead sample from unit 5WA. Radiocarbon ages for individual samples ranged from 25.2 to >58.2 ka BP.The error-weighted mean ages for successively older strata are 38.5+0.85/−0.95 ka BP for unit 1WA, 50.2+1.1/−1.0 ka BP for units 2BS.LR.A and 2BS.LR.B, 56.5+2.7/−2.0 ka BP for unit 2BS.LR.C and 59.2+3.4/−2.4 ka BP for unit 2WA. This radiocarbon chronology is consistent with independent chronologies derived from electron spin resonance and amino acid racemization dating. The results therefore provide further evidence that radiocarbon dating of charcoal by the ABOX-SC technique can yield reliable radiocarbon ages beyond 40 ka BP. They also imply that Border Cave 5, a modern human mandible, predates >58.2 ka BP and that the Middle Stone Age (Mode 3)—Later Stone Age (Mode 5) transition of Border Cave was largely effected between ∼56.5 and ∼41.6 ka ago.  相似文献

Trace metal concentrations in soils and in stream and estuarine sediments from a subtropical urban watershed in Hawaii are presented. The results are placed in the context of historical studies of environmental quality (water, soils, and sediment) in Hawaii to elucidate sources of trace elements and the processes responsible for their distribution. This work builds on earlier studies on sediments of Ala Wai Canal of urban Honolulu by examining spatial and temporal variations in the trace elements throughout the watershed. Natural processes and anthropogenic activity in urban Honolulu contribute to spatial and temporal variations of trace element concentrations throughout the watershed. Enrichment of trace elements in watershed soils result, in some cases, from contributions attributed to the weathering of volcanic rocks, as well as to a more variable anthropogenic input that reflects changes in land use in Honolulu. Varying concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in sediments reflect about 60 a of anthropogenic activity in Honolulu. Land use has a strong impact on the spatial distribution and abundance of selected trace elements in soils and stream sediments. As noted in continental US settings, the phasing out of Pb-alkyl fuel additives has decreased Pb inputs to recently deposited estuarine sediments. Yet, a substantial historical anthropogenic Pb inventory remains in soils of the watershed and erosion of surface soils continues to contribute to its enrichment in estuarine sediments. Concentrations of other elements (e.g., Cu, Zn, Cd), however, have not decreased with time, suggesting continued active inputs. Concentrations of Ba, Co, Cr, Ni, V and U, although elevated in some cases, typically reflect greater proportions attributed to natural sources rather than anthropogenic input.  相似文献

The current study provides long-term catch-rate, biological and feeding data for smooth hammerhead sharks, Sphyrna zygaena, caught in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal bather protection programme. In total, 2 512 S. zygaena were caught in net installations between 1978 and 2014, and 72 S. zygaena were caught on drumlines between 2007 and 2014. There was no significant log-linear year trend in the net catch rate over time (slope = 0.0054, t = 1.808, p = 0.07). However, there was a significant temporal increase in mean size of the captured sharks (slope = 0.0012, t = 3.502, p < 0.001). A quasi-Poisson generalised additive mixed model showed that increasing latitude, winter months, colder sea temperatures and the deployment of drumlines all had a significant positive effect on the catch rate of sharks in nets. The size frequency of the catch was unimodal, with significantly more females caught in the nets and more males on the drumlines. The majority (93.1%) of all sharks caught were immature and measured between 80 and 120 cm precaudal length. Teleosts and cephalopods dominated the sharks’ diet in terms of all dietary indices. The prey species consumed indicate that immature S. zygaena are feeding primarily within the pelagic zone of shallow coastal habitats.  相似文献

Implantation of reactive ions into targets of planetary interest is a relevant subject to be studied in the laboratory. It could in fact produce new molecular species that are not native to those surfaces. Presented here are new laboratory results obtained by nitrogen implantation (15–30 keV N+) on frozen mixtures of H2O:CH4 (2:1). These species have been chosen in view of their possible presence on the surface of Jovian and Saturnian satellites and rings. In fact these surfaces are exposed to intense irradiation by magnetospheric and/or solar energetic particles. The laboratory investigation utilizes IR spectroscopy. The main objectives of the present study are to identify newly produced species and to verify if these (or at least if the profile of their IR bands) are different from those produced by unreactive ions impinging on targets in which nitrogen is already present, occurring in the form of frozen NH3 (Strazzulla and Palumbo, 1998) or N2 (Palumbo et al., 1999). I find that CN-bearing group is in fact formed and its IR feature has a profile (peak position and band profile) that differs from that obtained after irradiation or frozen gases containing nitrogen. The relevance the results might have to elucidate the origin of some species observed on Jovian icy moons or predicted to be observed on Saturnian satellites are outlined.  相似文献
