The response of the azimuthal component of the ionospheric electric field to auroral arc brightening

We have analyzed the response of azimuthal component of the ionospheric electric field to auroral arc activity. We have chosen for analysis three intervals of coordinated EISCAT and TV observations on 18 February, 1993. These intervals include three kinds of arc activity: the appearance of a new auroral arc, the gradual brightening of the existing arc and variations of the arc luminosity. The arcs were mostly east-west aligned. In all cases, the enhancement of arc luminosity is accompanied by a decrease in the westward component of the ionospheric electric field. In contrast, an increase of that component seems to be connected with arc fading. The observed response is assumed to have the same nature as the short circuit of an external electric field by the conductor. The possible consequence of this phenomenon is discussed. 相似文献

Paleoclimate modelling is one of the core topics in the Past Global Changes project under the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme and has received much attention worldwide in recent decades. Here we summarize the research on the Paleoclimate modeling, including the Holocene, Last Glacial Maximum, and pre-Quaternary climate intervals or events performed at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS) for over one decade. As an attempt to review these academic activities, we emphasize that vegetation and ocean feedbacks can amplify East Asian climate response to the Earth’s orbital parameters and atmospheric CO2 concentration at the mid-Holocene. At the Last Glacial Maximum, additional cooling in interior China is caused by the feedback effects of East Asian vegetation and the ice sheet over the Tibetan Plateau, and the regional climate model RegCM2 generally reduces data-model discrepancies in East Asia. The simulated mid-Pliocene climate is characterized by warmer and drier conditions as well as significantly weakened summer and winter monsoon systems in interior China. On a tectonic timescale, both the Tibetan Plateau uplift and the Paratethys Sea retreat play important roles in the formation of East Asian monsoon-dominant environmental pattern during the Cenozoic. 相似文献

Atmospheric electrification is not a purely terrestrial phenomenon: all Solar System planetary atmospheres become slightly
electrified by cosmic ray ionisation. There is evidence for lightning on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, and it is possible
on Mars, Venus and Titan. Controversy surrounds the role of atmospheric electricity in physical climate processes on Earth;
here, a comparative approach is employed to review the role of electrification in the atmospheres of other planets and their
moons. This paper reviews the theory, and, where available, measurements, of planetary atmospheric electricity which is taken
to include ion production and ion–aerosol interactions. The conditions necessary for a planetary atmospheric electric circuit
similar to Earth’s, and the likelihood of meeting these conditions in other planetary atmospheres, are briefly discussed.
Atmospheric electrification could be important throughout the solar system, particularly at the outer planets which receive
little solar radiation, increasing the relative significance of electrical forces. Nucleation onto atmospheric ions has been
predicted to affect the evolution and lifetime of haze layers on Titan, Neptune and Triton. Atmospheric electrical processes
on Titan, before the arrival of the Huygens probe, are summarised. For planets closer to Earth, heating from solar radiation
dominates atmospheric circulations. However, Mars may have a global circuit analogous to the terrestrial model, but based
on electrical discharges from dust storms. There is an increasing need for direct measurements of planetary atmospheric electrification,
in particular on Mars, to assess the risk for future unmanned and manned missions. Theoretical understanding could be increased
by cross-disciplinary work to modify and update models and parameterisations initially developed for a specific atmosphere,
to make them more broadly applicable to other planetary atmospheres. 相似文献

在河北GY北部山前地带及河北TX西北部山区等环境条件下,采用电法找水,不应过分依赖于低阻岩带或灰岩溶隙选定井位,特别是电测深H型曲线,如低阻出现深度较浅,且未出现低阻平直段,曲线尾部又近于45°渐近线,则可能是浅层的亚粘土、砂质粘土形成的,不具备成井条件;而A型曲线如在深部(200~350m)出现高阻平直段,则可推测为基岩深部的脉状裂隙水反映。实践证明采用这种方法确定钻井点位是可行的,对于在我国北方寒武、奥陶系地层中寻找地下水资源,具有一定的参考价值。 相似文献

The purpose of this contribution is to describe the sequence of physical and chemical processes resulting in the sediment-type named loess, a fine-grained sediment deposit of universal occurrence. Owing to historical causes, loess has been (and still is) implicitly linked to glacial/periglacial environments among most naturalists. However it is known today that most eolian dust is deflated from tropical deserts. Hence, that sequence of processes is more comprehensive than the former narrow cold scenario. Six examples of different “non-classical” cases (from South America and Europe) that fit well to the loess definition are developed: 1) volcanic loess in Ecuador: pyroclastic eruptions/valley wind/mountain praire/silica structuring; 2) tropical loess in northeastern Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay: deflation of river and fan splays/savanna/iron sesquioxide structuring; 3) gypsum loess in northern Spain: destruction of anhydrite/gypsiferous layers in a dry climate/valley wind/Saharian shrub peridesert/gypsum structuring; 4) trade-wind deposits in Venezuela and Brazil: deflation in tidal flats/trade wind into the continent/savanna/iron hydroxide structuring; 5) anticyclonic gray loess in Argentina: continental anticyclone on plains/anti-clockwise winds and whirls/steppe/carbonate structuring. All these non-classical types conform to the accepted loess definitions and they also share the most important field characteristics of loess such as grain size, friability, vertical or sub-vertical slopes in outcrops, subfusion and others. 在天津市区南部的静海-津南一线布置了32个大地电磁测深点,剖面方位角92°,对采集的资料采用远参考与Robust技术进行了处理和解释.对该区的构造维数及构造方向做了分析,揭示了该剖面地壳上地幔电性结构特征,并进行了划分.成果显示:中下地壳存在双层低阻构造层,上地幔表现为中、高阻互层.在断裂带附近受构造活动影响,低阻高导构造层会发生上下错断与缺失.沧东、白塘口、天津断裂均是多组断层构成的断裂带,控制了双窑凸起、白塘口凹陷、板桥凹陷及静海斜坡带次级构造单元. 相似文献
