Laboratory Experiments for Describing the Migration of Explosives in Sandy Aquifers Leaching the munition residues from the former explosive production site Elsnig in the Upper Elbe Valley (Saxony, Germany) resulted in an undefined plume of groundwater contaminated by nitroaromatics and nitroamines approaching important drinking water resources. Laboratory experiments were carried out to investigate transport and fate phenomena of such substances in aquifer materials. Specific solute storage and migration parameters for modelling the subsurface migration processes were obtained from steady state experiments in soil cores used as 0-dimensional reactors and from dynamic breakthrough curves in soil columns. Using the 0-dimensional reactor tests we focused on isotherm estimation. Sorption was found to be reflected best by Freundlich isotherms for concentrations of nitroaromatics less than 10 mg L?1 and low organic carbon content in the tested subsurface material. TNT-adsorption was slow and strongly correlated with soil permeability. Preliminary kinetic measurements revealed sorption equilibrium after two days. RDX-adsorption was low. All sorption experiments were conducted under non-sterile and aerobic conditions. Microbial activity was controlled by measuring the enzyme activity and the biomass in water and soil samples. After steady state experiments in the 0-dimensional reactors, products initiated by biodegradation of explosives such as aminonitrotoluenes were found. Based on literature, degradation was estimated and correlated with soil texture. For five components, different retardation was observed depending on soil texture by using native groundwater samples in the columns. Specially designed reactor facilities and soil column installations with temperature and flux control as well as on-line measurements of pH, pE, and conductivity were applied. Concentrations of contaminants were analysed both by high performance liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography. Photolytic reactions have been prevented. Based on all these laboratory experiments, sorption, degradation, and retardation parameters of trinitrotoluene (TNT), hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), dinitrobenzene (DNB), dinitrotoluene (DNT), and mononitrotoluene (MNT) in Elsnig sandy aquifers were estimated.  相似文献

The advective monthly mean transfer of water vapour in the layer below 700 mbar is investigated for India for the years 1962 to 1972 and for the months January to September. The average zonal and meridional components of the transfer of water vapour for India are obtained. They are further averaged for different combinations of the pre-monsoon months from January to May and are correlated with the summer monsoon rainfall. The correlation coefficients for zonal transfer of water vapour are either negative or small positive for different combinations of the months mentioned above. The correlation coefficients for the meridional transfer of water vapour are positive. The maximum value is 0.74 for the March to May combination and is statistically significant at the 1% level.An extensive investigation is, therefore, made for the March to May averages of water vapour transfer for four broad regions of India. The parameters of water vapour transfer for these regions are compared with the threshold values and the prediction category, normal or drought, for the subsequent summer monsoon season is determined for all years. The correlation coefficient between the index of drought, as determined from parameters of water vapour transport and rainfall departure, is statistically significant at the 2% level.  相似文献

Sixteen selected samples from the Upper Cretaceous volcanic belt of the Eastern Pontids have been analysed for major elements, Rb, Sr and Zr. On the basis of the K2O versus SiO2 distribution, two groups of rocks have been distinguished, one with calc-alkaline affinity and a second group with shoshonitic character. The calc-alkaline rocks have porphyritic texture with clinopyroxene, plagioclase and orthopyroxene as phenocryst and in the groundmass. The orthopyroxene is lacking in the shoshonites where plagioclase, clinopyroxene and, in the more evolved terms, amphibole and biotite are the main phenocryst minerals. The shoshonitic rocks have higher K2ONa2O ratio, K2O, P2O5 and Rb, contents with respect to the calc-alkaline samples. The TiO2 content is invariably low, never exceeding approximately 1%. The occurrence of volcanic rocks ranging in composition from calc-alkaline to shoshonitic in the Upper Cretaceous volcanic belt of the Eastern Pontids suggests that the Upper Cretaceous volcanic cycle reached its mature stage before the onset of the Eocene calc-alkaline volcanism which is believed to be neither genetically nor tectonically related with the Upper Cretaceous volcanism.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to quantify the dispersivity in the longitudinal direction by upscaling pore scale mixing over a network domain and to verify the dispersivity with that obtained through the more rigorous upscaling technique, the Brownian particle tracking model (BPTM). We model a porous medium with a network of pore-units that are comprised of pore bodies and bonds of finite volume. Such a pore-unit is assumed to be a mixing cell with the steady state flow condition for a single fluid. Dispersivity can be obtained by solving the mixing cell model (MCM) for the concentration in each pore-unit and by averaging the concentrations for a large number of pore units (as a function of time and space). A minimal size of network that ascertains an asymptotic value of dispersivity was determined and verified with large size pore networks. This numerically computed dispersivity is compared with the results from the BPTM for the same porous medium and flow conditions. We show that the dispersivity obtained from the MCM is equally reliable for the heterogeneous pore-networks and can be estimated as a function of pore size heterogeneity. For homogeneous networks with the MCM, the iteration time step plays an important role. On the other hand, for networks with the BPTM, the assumption of intra-bond velocity profile affects the results.  相似文献

复合沙垄是最大的沙丘地貌类型之一,表现为简单沙丘类型的垂直叠加和水平连接,在沙垄的高大地形影响下,沙垄不同部位形成不同的风沙环境特征。以塔克拉玛干沙漠腹地/复合沙垄为例,通过野外实地观测研究其流场和上覆沙丘组合特征。研究结果表明,复合沙垄的流场可分为沙垄迎风坡气流加速区、沙垄背风坡气流转向减速区、垄间粗沙平地气流风速风向恢复区和气流风速稳定区。受沙垄流场和地形的控制,沙垄上覆新月形沙丘链,垄间地分有简单新月形沙丘、沙堆、沙片、侵蚀地、简单线形沙丘。上覆沙丘分布特征表现为:垄间地上覆新月形沙丘疏密度较小,沙垄迎风坡和沙垄背风坡上覆新月形沙丘疏密度较大,而且超过1,说明沙垄迎背风坡上覆沙丘有叠置现象。沙垄上覆沙丘高度自沙垄迎风坡底部到顶部增高,背风坡上覆沙丘高度自沙垄顶部到背风坡底部减小,上覆沙丘在自身形态、地形和流场的共同影响下,存在相对运动,表现为分布进一步集中,因此沙垄有增高的趋势。  相似文献

The cost of overcoming distance has played and continues to play an important role in the evolution of Australia's space‐economy. This paper examines the impact of the ‘friction of distance’, as well as the quality of the resource base, on the settlement and development of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. A series of maps portraying the spread of pastoralism and then agriculture on Eyre Peninsula reveals clearly the importance of ‘accessibility’ in influencing the pattern and timing of settlement. It was not until well into this century that all the potentially agricultural land in the interior was occupied, for this required the construction of a railway and water pipeline up the centre of the peninsula.  相似文献

The asymptotic distribution of the coefficient of cross-association between two sequences of nominal data is investigated under the assumption of independent random sampling from a multinomial distribution slightly modified to suit geological applications. This modification is due to merging consecutive strata of the same rock type into one lithological unit, and can be described by a simple Markov chain. A distinction is made between the case in which the theoretical frequencies are known, and the situation where these have to be estimated from the observed data.  相似文献
