By means of Lagrange's equation, the “coupled” equations of motion for a horizontal plate carrying a U-type tuned liquid damper (TLD) are derived. The “uncoupled” equations of motion for the liquid (in the TLD) and the structural system are then obtained by decoupling the “coupled” ones. Unlike the existing literature to indirectly determine the natural frequencies of a damped vibrating system by using the resonant method, the “complex” eigenvalues of the coupled damped system are obtained directly from the associated eigenvalue equations. Besides, the pressure intensities in the two air chambers and the sizes of the two vertical tanks together with the horizontal conduit are arbitrary in the formulation of this paper. The compression behavior responsible for unity sensitivity is very valuable in quantitative assessment of the effects of soil structure on the compression behavior of soft marine sediments. However, the quantitative assessment of such effects is not possible because of unavailability of the formula for the compression curve of marine sediments responsible for unit sensitivity. In this study, the relationship between the remolded state and the conventional critical state line is presented in the deviator stress versus mean effective stress plot. The analysis indicates that the remolded state is on the conventional critical state line obtained at a relatively small strain. Thus, a unique critical state sedimentation line for marine sediments of unit sensitivity is proposed. The comparison between the critical state sedimentation line proposed in this study and the existing normalized consolidation curves obtained from conventional oedometer tests on remolded soils or reconstituted soils explains well the 相似文献

The problem of predicting dependence of constant pressure batch dewatering of particulate suspensions on feed solids concentration is considered. Scaling transformations which demonstrate that evolution in the cake consolidation stage of dewatering is governed by an underlying self-similar behavior are proposed. The self-similar master curve, which can be obtained using only one set of experimental dewatering data obtained with a feed suspension having solids concentration above the gel point, is employed for estimating dependence of key dewatering process parameters on feed solids concentration. Using the parameter estimates in a Darcy's law based dewatering model, it is shown that the complete evolution of dewatering for a desired feed solids concentration can be predicted with reasonable accuracy. The approach is simpler to implement in comparison to available pressure filtration models, which require several suspension characterization experiments. 相似文献

To delineate spatial extent of seawater intrusion in a small experimental watershed in the coastal area of Byunsan, Korea,
electrical resistivity surveys with some evaluation core drillings and chemical analysis of groundwaters were conducted. The
vertical electrical sounding (VES) method was applied, which is useful to identify variations in electrical characteristics
of layered aquifers. The drilling logs identified a three-layered subsurface including reclamation soil, weathered layer and
relatively fresh sedimentary bedrock. The upper two layers are the main water-bearing units in this area. A total of 30 electrical
sounding curves corresponded mostly to the H type and they were further divided into three classes: highly conductive, intermediate,
and low conductive, according to the observed resistivity values of the most conductive weathered layer. In addition, groundwater
samples from 15 shallow monitoring wells were analyzed and thus grouped into two types based on HCO3/Cl and Ca/Na molar ratios with TDS levels, which differentiated groundwaters affected by seawater intrusion from those not
or less affected. According to relationships between the three classes of the sounding curves and groundwater chemistry, locations
of the monitoring wells with low HCO3/Cl and Ca/Na ionic ratios coincided with the area showing the highly conductive type curve, while those with the high ratios
corresponded to the area showing low conductive curve type. Both the low electrical resistivity and the low ionic ratios indicated
effects of seawater intrusion. From this study, it was demonstrated that the VES would be useful to delineate seawater intrusion
