Large aquatic bodies influence surrounding terrestrial ecosystems by providing water and nutrients. In arid landscapes, the increased primary productivity that results may greatly enhance vertebrate biodiversity. The Salton Sea, a large saline lake in the Colorado Desert of southern California, provides nutrients in the form of hundreds of thousands of dead fish carcasses, brine flies, and chemical compounds through windborne salt sea spray. We performed point counts for landbirds and shorebirds monthly or every other month between March 2001 and February 2002 across a sampling grid of 35 points along the west edge of Salton Sea. We found that avian diversity (numbers of species and numbers per species) was dependent on proximity to the Sea. Diversity was at a maximum nearest the shore, and was significantly lower away from the Sea's edge, at all surveyed distances up to 1 km from the shore. Cover by the dominant shrubs on the study site also corresponded to proximity to the water's edge. Whereas one may hypothesize that the avian diversity patterns are caused by these differences in vegetation structure, our data did not support this. Future studies should further investigate this potential correlation between vegetation and bird patterns. Until more is understood about the relationship between elevated avian diversity and the physical environment of the land-shore interface, our results suggest that the Sea's surface be stabilized near its present level. Future management schemes at the Salton Sea that include reductions of water sources should be carefully analyzed, so as to not jeopardize the terrestrial avifauna at this unique ecosystem.  相似文献

Ozone tendencies due to chemistry and transport are calculated by a mesoscale model using a fine horizontal resolution (3 km × 3 km), over South-Eastern France. Over that region where the anthropogenic emissions are very strong, ozone pollution is highlighted during two intensive observations periods of the ESCOMPTE campaign, when the sea breeze penetrates far into the Durance and Rhone valleys and the up-slope breezes are developed. From a fine analysis of time series of ozone concentration at different ground stations along these valleys and from numerical results, it is possible to discriminate the tendency due to chemistry from the tendency due to dynamical processes. We can distinguish both processes, either local chemical production/loss or dynamical increase/decrease (transport, deposition) on maps of ozone budget according to the meteorological conditions. In particular, we show that the variations due to transport can be have the same order of magnitude than those due to chemistry, reaching 20 ppbv h−1, whereas those due to chemistry are around 30 ppbv h−1.  相似文献

In-situ sodar and lidar measurements were coupled with numerical simulations for studying a sea-breeze event in a flat coastal area of the North Sea. The study’s aims included the recognition of the dynamics of a sea-breeze structure, and its effects on the lower troposphere stratification and the three-dimensional (3D) pollutant distribution. A sea breeze was observed with ground-based remote sensing instruments and analysed by means of numerical simulations using the 3D non-hydrostatic atmospheric model Meso-NH. The vertical structure of the lower troposphere was experimentally determined from the lidar and sodar measurements, while numerical simulations focused on the propagation of the sea breeze inland. The sea-breeze front, the headwind, the thermal internal boundary layer, the gravity current and the sea-breeze circulation were observed and analysed. The development of a late stratification was also observed by the lidar and simulated by the model, suggesting the formation of a stable multilayered structure. The transport of passive tracers inside the sea breeze and their redistribution above the gravity current was simulated too. Numerical modelling showed that local pollutants may travel backward to the sea above the gravity current at relatively low speed due to the shearing between the landward gravity current and the seaward synoptic wind. Such dynamic conditions may enhance an accumulation of pollutants above coastal industrial areas.  相似文献

Lake breezes are thermally direct circulations that form as a result of the differential heating of land and water and are important in modifying local climate and triggering convection; they have also been linked to tornadogenesis. Although lake breezes are generally well understood, studies of smaller lakes have been relatively scarce, and none have examined lake-breeze circulations in southern Manitoba even though they are seemingly apparent on weather radar. The objectives of this paper are to provide a radar-based analysis of lake-breeze frequency and characteristics in southern Manitoba, determine the detectability of lake-breeze fronts using the radar analysis with data collected in 2013, assess the types of lake-breeze circulations that occur, and examine the meteorological conditions in which they occur. Between 2008 and 2013, lake-breeze fronts were noted on 205 days using radar over the summer months, accounting for 37% of study days, with an average of 11–12 days with lake-breeze fronts each month. These findings agree fairly well with, and are only slightly less than, frequencies reported for Lake Michigan but are lower than the most recent findings for southern Ontario. In an effort to validate the results, a broad comparison between the radar analysis and a more complete analysis using satellite and surface stations is provided for 2013 demonstrating that radar is more useful for detecting lake breezes around Lake Manitoba than around Lake Winnipeg. Lake-breeze circulations originating on Lake Manitoba and the Shoal lakes were classified into three types. The distribution of types for the Shoal lakes was similar to previous findings by other authors with “moderate deformation” circulations being the most frequent. Finally, a brief meteorological analysis was completed for each month of this study. The results of the analysis were inconclusive with no single meteorological factor being consistently well correlated to higher or lower lake-breeze frequency.  相似文献

利用常规观测资料、NCEP/NCAR(1°×1°)的逐6h再分析资料结合ARW-WRF中尺度数值模式模拟结果对2018年6月20日发生在福建沿岸的一次飑线过程的发生发展机理进行了分析,结果表明:①本次飑线过程属于槽前型,对流层低层存在发展的低涡切变,切变南侧有冷空气南下,低空西南急流不明显,但有持续的暖湿气流输送至福建中北部地区,飑线生成于低涡南侧的沿岸附近。②飑线发展期间系统南侧低层风速不断增大且维持高的水汽输送和不稳定能量;前期对流的触发因子包括锋面对流系统的冷出流、地形的抬升以及海风锋造成的冷堆强迫抬升;后期冷出流边界与海风锋边界碰撞合并,加强了低层辐合促进了对流的发展,是飑线形成的主要原因。③飑线成熟时期地面存在中高压和尾流低压,高压后部为强烈的辐散区,风速较大;成熟时期内部存在两支气流,前向入流为低层暖湿气流在飑线前方流入并在对流云区被抬升,后向入流为中层干冷空气在飑线后方流入,在低层形成下沉运动,是地面大风形成的重要原因之一。  相似文献

城市热岛环流是由城市热岛激发的、存在于边界层的局地环流。这一环流常影响城市区域污染物的扩散及城市降水,是城市气象学的重点研究对象。在过去30多年间,中国城市热岛环流的研究不断取得突破,研究成果丰富。为了今后更有效地开展相关研究,本文从观测分析、理论与数值模拟研究两方面,回顾并总结了我国在热岛环流研究方面取得的成果,包括热岛环流的时空特征、产生机制,以及热岛环流与其他局地环流的相互作用。此外,本文总结了热岛环流对城市及其周边地区污染物水平和垂直分布的影响。  相似文献

Following the collapse of the New York City World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001, Local, State and Federal agencies initiated numerous air monitoring activities to better understand the impact of emissions from the disaster. A study of the estimated pathway that a potential plume of emissions would likely track was completed to support the U.S. EPA’s initial exposure assessments. The plume from the World Trade Center was estimated using the CALMET-CALPUFF dispersion modeling system. The following is the first of two reports that compares several meteorological models, including the CALMET diagnostic model, the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) and 5th Generation Mesoscale Model (MM5) in the complex marine-influenced urban setting of NYC. Results indicate wind speed, in most cases, is greater in CALMET than the two mesoscale models because the CALMET micrometeorological processor does not properly adjust the wind field for surface roughness variations that exits in a major built-up urban area. Small-scale circulations, which were resolved by the mesoscale models, were not well simulated by CALMET. Independent wind observations in Lower Manhattan suggest that the wind direction estimates of CALMET possess a high degree of error because of the urban influence. Wind speed is on average 1.5 ms−1 stronger in CALMET than what observations indicate. The wind direction downwind of the city is rotated 25–34 clockwise in CALMET, relative to what observations indicate.  相似文献

The flow structure on a gentle slope at Vallon dOl in the northern suburbs of Marseille in southern France has been documented by means of surface wind and temperature measurements collected from 7 June to 14 July 2001 during the ESCOMPTE experiment. The analysis of the time series reveals temperature and wind speed oscillations during several nights (about 60--90 min oscillation period) and several days (about 120–180 min oscillation period) during the whole observing period. Oscillating katabatic winds have been reported in the literature from theoretical, experimental and numerical studies. In the present study, the dynamics of the observed oscillating katabatic winds are in good agreement with the theory.In contrast to katabatic winds, no daytime observations of oscillating anabatic upslope flows have ever been published to our knowledge, probably because of temperature inversion break-up that inhibits upslope winds. The present paper shows that cold air advection by a sea breeze generates a mesoscale horizontal temperature gradient, and hence baroclinicity in the atmosphere, which then allows low-frequency oscillations, similar to a katabatic flow. An expression for the oscillation period is derived that accounts for the contribution of the sea-breeze induced mesoscale horizontal temperature gradient. The theoretical prediction of the oscillation period is compared to the measurements, and good agreement is found. The statistical analysis of the wind flow at Vallon dOl shows a dominant north-easterly to easterly flow pattern for nighttime oscillations and a dominant south-westerly flow pattern for daytime oscillations. These results are consistent with published numerical simulation results that show that the air drains off the mountain along the maximum slope direction, which in the studied case is oriented south-west to north-east.  相似文献

利用NCEP再分析资料、自动气象站观测数据、多普勒天气雷达反射率因子和WRF模式,对2015年5月24日午后,海南岛东北部出现的一次较强的海风锋降水天气进行过程分析和数值模拟。结果表明:强降水发生期间,海南岛处于副热带高压边缘,中低层水汽来源充沛,降水前后K指数变化明显;两支分别来自海口海岸线向东南移动与来自文昌海岸线向西北移动的海风锋的发展、增强与移动,是导致本次降水的主要原因。另外,中部山区小尺度的地形辐合有利于过程期间海风锋的加强与发展;WRF模式的模拟结果说明,海风锋发展最旺盛的时候,锋面高度达约1000 m,宽度约0.15个经度;海风锋垂直环流圈的建立伴随着地面降水的加强;地面降水减弱时,海风锋环流圈逐渐消失。  相似文献

通过分析2008—2016年青岛流亭机场(简称青岛机场)各季节地面风向日变化规律,发现有两支海风环流影响青岛机场:一支是西支海风,风向210°~230°,一般上午影响机场,午后发展至最强,下午消失;另一支为南支海风,风向150°~170°,午后影响机场,下午取代西支海风,傍晚发展至最强,夜间逐渐减弱消失。两支海风夏季最为明显,南支海风强度季节性差异强于西支海风。海风对机场飞行的影响主要体现在两支海风引起的三种海风锋型低空风切变,分别为西支海风锋引起的侧风切变、两支海风环流相互作用引起的侧风切变以及南支海风引起的顺风切变,其季节及日变化规律为:夏季出现概率最大,春、秋季次之,冬季几乎不会发生;一天中最可能发生时段分别为08:00—11:00、12:00—15:00和15:00—17:00,具体时段在各季节略有差异。  相似文献
