Recent technological advances in geosensor networks demand new models of distributed computation with dynamic spatial information. This paper presents a computational model of spatial change in dynamic regions (such as may be derived from discretizations of continuous fields) founded on embeddings of graphs in orientable surfaces. Continuous change, connectedness and regularity of dynamic regions are defined and local transition rules are used to constrain region evolution and enable more efficient inference of a region's state. The model provides a framework for the detection of global high‐level events based on local low‐level ‘snapshot’ spatiotemporal data. The approach has particular relevance to environmental monitoring with geosensor networks, where technological constraints make the detection of global behaviour from local conditions highly advantageous.  相似文献

2022年9月19日墨西哥米却肯州发生MW7.6地震,该地震位于北美板块与科科斯板块交汇处。为进一步研究本次地震对周围断层和后续地震的影响,剖析该地震的孕震背景和发生条件,首先使用包括USGS在内的多个国外地震机构得到的墨西哥MW7.6地震以及后续的两次MW>5.0地震的震源机制解,分别计算出震源机制中心解,然后通过计算主震产生库伦破裂应力变化来研究本次地震对后续两次地震的触发作用,最后收集了1976年1月1日至2022年5月31日发生在本次地震附近的MW≥4.9的29条震源机制解数据,反演该地区的构造应力场,并模拟在局部构造及其作用下产生的各种断层形状及相对正应力和剪应力的分布情况。研究结果表明:①震源机制中心解表明主震和6.8级余震为逆冲型地震,而5.8级余震的震源机制为正断型地震; ②本次地震对5.8级和6.8级余震的库伦破裂力变化均超过0.01MPa的阈值,表明这两次强余震可能是在主震的触发下发生的; ③震源区应力场的主压应力轴为NNE-SSW向,主张应力轴近乎垂直。本地震序列的断层破裂近乎沿应力场的最大剪应力平面发生,最大限度地释放了构造运动积累的应力。  相似文献

如同世界上其它新生代沉积盆地那样,柴达木盆地在一定深度,区域上普遍存在异常高压。异常高压出现在快速沉积的厚层泥质岩中,水热增压效应明显,而且在上新世末至今发生了强烈的以水平挤压为主的构造运动,因此异常高压的形成是由于不均衡压实作用和构造挤压作用所引起的压应力增大以及热液压力引起流体体积的变化。异常高压是油气运聚的一种重要动力来源:在油气运移中,可以使上覆封隔层产生大量微裂缝,油气向上运移到在较低压储集层中,也可以使封闭性断层开启,通过断层进行侧向运移。  相似文献

Despite the occurrence of riffle–pool sequences in many rivers there are few data concerning riffle–pool unit morphology. Of many criteria proposed to identify riffle–pool units, only three methods can be regarded as objective and robust. These are the ‘zero‐crossing’, the ‘spectral analysis’ and the ‘control‐point’ methods. In this paper statistics are developed using the first two of these methods to describe the streamwise morphology of 275 riffles and 285 pools which form a continuous 32·1 km reach of the bed of the River Severn in Shropshire, England. Yalin's theoretical relationship between the average riffle:pool unit length ( λ p) and channel width ( W ), λ p = 3 W , applies to the River Severn. Reach‐average riffle height ( H ) is a constant proportion of bankfull depth ( h ); typically H ≅ 0·16 h . Riffle height is a positive function of riffle length. Pool depth is a positive function of pool length. However, both riffle length and pool length increase more rapidly than the bed‐level amplitude, such that long riffles or pools are relatively ‘flat’. As channel gradient reduces, bedforms flatten and become more asymmetric as riffle stoss sides and the proximal slope of pools lengthen at the expense of riffle lee sides and pool distal slopes. The statistical relationships between riffle steepness (H/L) and water depth are similar to those for equilibrium subaqueous dunes. The Severn data are consistent with Yalin's theoretical analysis relating riffle bedform length (L r) to water depth, i.e. L r = α2π h, wherein α ≅ 1 for steep near‐equilibrium bedforms but α ≅ 2 to 3 as the relative depth decreases and riffles become long, low features. Theoretical consideration and turbulence data indicate that the frequency of coherent turbulent‐flow structures associated with the riffle–pool mixing length in the Severn should be of the order of 50 to 100 s. The morphological similarity of the steepest River Severn riffles with dunes raises intriguing questions with respect to self‐similar, convergent organization of periodic alluvial bedforms and to bedform dynamic classification particularly. Cusp formation was continuously monitored on a manually flattened, plane section of a coarse clastic, microtidal, pocket beach on the Pacific coast of Japan using a CCD camera suspended in the air. Vertical video pictures enabled the examination of the temporal change in foreshore morphologies and swash pattern. Boulders on the beach face appeared to have triggered the formation of beach cusps, which gradually and successively grew up alongshore. In 2·5 h, two well defined beach cusps had developed with a spacing of 2·2 and 2·5 m, respectively. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper the efficiency of various dissipative mechanisms to protect structures from pulse‐type and near‐source ground motions is examined. Physically realizable cycloidal pulses are introduced, and their resemblance to recorded near‐source ground motions is illustrated. The study uncovers the coherent component of some near‐source acceleration records, and the shaking potential of these records is examined. It is found that the response of structures with relatively low isolation periods is substantially affected by the high‐frequency fluctuations that override the long duration pulse. Therefore, the concept of seismic isolation is beneficial even for motions that contain a long duration pulse which generates most of the unusually large recorded displacements and velocities. Dissipation forces of the plastic (friction) type are very efficient in reducing displacement demands although occasionally they are responsible for substantial permanent displacements. It is found that the benefits by hysteretic dissipation are nearly indifferent to the level of the yield displacement of the hysteretic mechanism and that they depend primarily on the level of the plastic (friction) force. The study concludes that a combination of relatively low friction and viscous forces is attractive since base displacements are substantially reduced without appreciably increasing base shears and superstructure accelerations. Time‐delay is an important issue in structural control. Applications of unsynchronized control forces due to time‐delay may result in a degradation of the control performance and it may even render the controlled structures to be unstable. In this paper, a state‐of‐the‐art review for available methods of time‐delay compensation is presented. Then, five methods for the compensation of fixed time‐delay are presented and investigated for active control of civil engineering structures. These include the recursive response method, state‐augmented compensation method, controllability based stabilization method, the Smith predictor method and the Pade approximation method, all are applicable to any control algorithm to be used for controlled design. Numerical simulations have been conducted for MDOF building models equipped with an active control system to demonstrate the stability and control performance of these time‐delay compensation methods. Finally, the stability and performance of the phase shift method, that is well‐known in civil engineering applications, have also been critically evaluated through numerical simulations. In this paper, the vibratory characteristics of a rectangular plate in contact with water on one side are studied. The elastic plate is considered to be a part of a vertical rectangular rigid wall in contact with water, the edges of which are elastically restrained and parallel to those of the rigid wall. The location and size of the plate on the rigid wall may vary arbitrarily. The water with a free surface is in a rectangular domain infinite in the length direction. The effects of free surface waves, compressibility of the water and the hydrostatic water pressure are neglected in the analysis. An analytical‐Ritz method is developed to analyse the interaction of the plate–water system. First of all, by using the method of separation of variables and the method of Fourier series expansion, the exact expression of the motion of water is derived in the form of integral equations including the dynamic deformation of the plate. Then the Rayleigh–Ritz approach is used to derive the eigenfrequency equation of the system via the variational principle of energy. By selecting beam vibrating functions as the admissible functions of the plate, the added virtual mass incremental (AVMI) matrices for plate vibration are obtained. The convergency studies are carried out. The effects of some parameters such as the depth and width of water, the support stiffnesses, location and aspect ratio of the plate and the plate–water size and density ratios on the eigenfrequencies of the plate–water system are investigated. Several numerical examples are given. The validity of AVMI factor approach is also confirmed by comparing the AVMI factor solutions with the analytical‐Ritz solutions. The results show that the approach presented here can also be used as excellent approximate solutions for rectangular plates in contact with water of infinite width and/or infinite depth. Laboratory consolidation of structured clayey soils is analysed in this paper. The research is carried out by two different methods. The first one treats the soil as an isotropic homogeneous equivalent Double Porosity (DP) medium. The second method rests on the extensive application of the Finite Element Method (FEM) to combinations of different soils, composing 2D or fully 3D ordered structured media that schematically discretize the complex material. Two reference problems, representing typical situations of 1D laboratory consolidation of structured soils, are considered. For each problem, solution is obtained through integration of the equations governing the consolidation of the DP medium as well as via FEM applied to the ordered schemes composed of different materials. The presence of conventional experimental devices to ensure the drainage of the sample is taken into account through appropriate boundary conditions. Comparison of FEM results with theoretical results clearly points out the ability of the DP model to represent consolidation processes of structurally complex soils. Limits of applicability of the DP model may arise when the rate of fluid exchange between the two porous systems is represented through oversimplified relations. Results of computations, obtained having assigned reasonable values to the meso‐structural and to the experimental apparatus parameters, point out that a partially efficient drainage apparatus strongly influences the distribution along the sample and the time evolution of the interstitial water pressure acting in both systems of pores. Data of consolidation tests in a Rowe's cell on samples of artificially fissured clays reported in the literature are compared with the analytical and numerical results showing a significant agreement. This paper presents an evaluation of the feasibility and the reliability of a visual characterization technique for gravel–cobble river bed surface substrate. Based on principal axis regressions, using phi scale (ϕ), comparisons of visual estimation and grid sampling techniques show that useful predictive relations (R2 = 0·78–0·88) exist between visual estimates of the surface d16, d50 and d84 and estimates obtained for the same percentiles with the grid sampling technique. Comparisons of visual estimation and the surface‐bulk sampling technique also indicate a predictive relation (R2 = 0·70) between the d50 of the two methods. Trained operators can visually estimate gravel–cobble bed surface d16 to uncertainties of 41 per cent, d50 to 15 per cent and d84 to 11 per cent (for example, there is a 5·5 mm error on a d84 size of 50 mm). Furthermore, evidence shows that if operators are properly trained, a calibration relation for each percentile can be applied independently of operators. This visual characterization allows effective detailed mapping of spatial patterns in substrate size distribution along extensive reaches of gravel‐bed rivers. The technique can be very useful in creating terrain models for various geomorphological, hydrological and biological applications such as the determination of entrainment thresholds, hydraulic roughness and substrate suitability for benthic insects or salmonid habitat.
