In this study, we used the modified Horwitz expression (Hc = 0.01c0.8495 , which gives the precision as a function of concentration) to evaluate and control the accuracy of results of silicate rock analysis obtained by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. This expression is currently used by the organisers of the GeoPT international proficiency tests, to assign the precision limits of each analyte and subsequently to evaluate the data provided by laboratories whose main application is geochemistry. Results for major and trace elements, determined in glass disk and pressed pellets, respectively, were evaluated. Nine international silicate rock reference materials were analysed and results were compared to the recommended values plus and minus the limits given by the above expression. Those limits are easily attained for most major elements, but not for trace elements. Sample preparation and sub-sampling contributions to precision were evaluated by analysis of an in-house reference sample. In our results, precision does not follow the Horwitz expression relationship with concentration. It is known that the final accuracy in XRF analysis depends strongly on instrumental settings and on the uncertainties associated with the certified or recommended values of the reference materials used to calibrate the spectrometer, but our results indicate that the precision expression can be useful, especially to inspect and correct calibration curves and to check routine instrumental accuracy. 相似文献

Abstract: A total of 189 runs were completed to determine the rate of dissolved oxygen consumption in water by the reaction humic acid at 25°, 45°, and 65°C. Glass vial bottles were used as reaction vessels, and humic aicd and pure water of different intitial O2 concentration was loaded with humic acid/water weight of 0.008 and 0.009. Vials were opened periodically to measure O2 concentrations. The pH of the solution fluctuated in the early stages of the experiments and gradually decreased to a constant value. Dissolved oxygen concentration decreased, for example, from initial value of 12 mg/l to 9 mg/l at 25°C, to 5 mg/l at 45°C, and to 2 mg/l at 65°C after the reaction of 500 hours. Analyses of rates suggest that the reaction is first order, and rate constants are 8.42 × 10-9 at 25°C, 2.22 × 10-8 at 45°C, and 1.28 × 10-7 moles m-2 s-1 at 65°C. 相似文献

A systematic study of the major ion chemistry of the Ganga source waters—the Bhagirathi, Alaknanda and their tributaries—has
been carried out to assess the chemical weathering processes in the high altitude Himalaya. Among major ions, Ca, Mg, HCO3 and SO4 are the most abundant in these river waters. These results suggest that weathering of carbonate rocks by carbonic and sulphuric
acids dominates in these drainage basins. On an average, silicate weathering can contribute up to ∼ 30% of the total cations.
The concentration of total dissolved salts in the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda is 104 and 115mg/l, respectively. The chemical
denudation rate in the drainage basins of the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda is, respectively, 110 and 137 tons/km2/yr, significantly higher than that derived for the entire Ganga basin, indicating intense chemical erosion of the Himalaya. 相似文献

Detrended canonical coreespondence analysis (DCCA) was used to examine the relationships between diatom species distributions and environmental variables from 62 drainage lakes in the Adirondack region, New York (USA). The contribution of lakewater pH, Alm (monomeric Al), NH4, maximum depth, Mg, and DOC (dissolved organic carbon) were statistically significant in explaining the patterns of variation in the diatom species composition. Twenty-three and sixteen diatom taxa were identified as potential indicator species for pH and Alm, respectively (i.e. a taxon with a strong statistical relationship to the environmental variable of interest, a well defined optimum, and a narrow tolerance to the variable of interest). Using weighted-averaging regression and calibration, predictive models were developed to infer lakewater pH (r
2=0.91), Alm (r
2=0.83), DOC (dissolved organic carbon) (r

Measurements of dissolved oxygen, density and temperature were con ducted in the Dead Sea between August 1987 and December
1989. Oxygen concentrations were found to vary around an average value of 0.8 mlSTP (standard temperature and pressure) per
kg. Dissolved oxygen variations were found to reflect both physical processes (a deepening of the epilimnion, a turnover etc.)
and chemical processes (oxidation reduction). Transport coefficients for the oxygen exchange across the air/sea interface
were found to be generally low compared to expected values based on laboratory experiments; the presence of surface films
which inhibit the gas exchange rates under calm weather conditions is suspected. During stormy weather, the exchange rates
were considerably higher, suggesting that the entrainment of bubbles was involved in the gas exchange process.

In the Arabian Sea, temporal contiguity of highly oligotrophic and eutrophic periods, along with high water temperatures,
may result in unique features of bacteriaorganic matter coupling, nutrient cycling and sedimentation, which are unlike those
in the classical oligotrophic and eutrophic waters. Bacteria-phytoplankton interactions are suggested to influence phytoplankton
aggregation and its timing. It is also hypothesized that, within aggregates, hydrolytic ectoenzyme activity, together with
condensation reactions between the hydrolysis products, produce molecular species which are not readily degraded by pelagic
bacteria. Accumulation of a reservoir of such slow-to-degrade dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is proposed to be a carbon flux
and energy buffer, which moderates the response of bacteria to the dramatic variations in primary production in the Arabian
Sea. Use of the slow-to-degrade DOC pool during the intermonsoon could temporarily render the Arabian Sea net-heterotrophic
and a source of CO2 to the atmosphere. Stored DOC is also suggested to balance the observed deficit between mesopelagic carbon demand and the
sinking particulate organic carbon supply. Knowledge of the significance of bacteria in carbon storage and cycling in the
Arabian Sea is needed to understand the response of the ocean’s biogeochemical state to strong physical forcing and climate
