Constitutive relations for fault slip are described and adopted as a basis for analyzing slip motion and its instability in
the form of earthquakes on crustal faults. The constitutive relations discussed include simple rate-independent slip-weakening
models, in which shear strength degrades with ongoing slip to a residual frictional strength, and also more realistic but
as yet less extensively applied slip-rate and surface-state-dependent relations. For the latter the state of the surface is
characterized by one or more variables that evolve with ongoing slip, seeking values consistent with the current slip rate.
Models of crustal faults range from simple, single-degree-of-freedom spring-slider systems to more complex continuous systems
that incorporate nonuniform slip and locked patches on faults of depth-dependent constitutive properties within elastic lithospheric
plates that may be coupled to a viscoelastic asthenosphere.
Most progress for the rate and state-dependent constitutive relations is at present limited to single-degree-of-freedom systems.
Results for stable and unstable slip with the various constitutive models are summarized. Instability conditions are compared
for spatially uniform versus nonuniform slip, including the elastic — brittle crack limit of the nonuniform mode. Inferences
of constitutive and fracture parameters are discussed, based on earthquake data for large ruptures that begin with slip at
depth, concentrating stress on locked regions within a brittle upper crust. Results of nonlinear stability theory, including
regimes of complex sustained stress and slip rate oscillations, are outlined for rate and state-dependent constitutive relations,
and the manner in which these allow phenomena like time-dependent failure, restrengthening in nearly stationary contact, and

In the time span from January 1995 to December 1999 the Czech National Seismological Network (CNSN), consisting of ten permanent digital broadband stations, several local networks and two data centers, detected and recorded 9530 regional natural seismic events, 27 greater than magnitude 2. Most of these events were located by the Czech Seismological Service (CSS), and the most prominent of them were analyzed in detail. A large number of quarry blasts were recorded as well but were not included in the analysis. We provide basic information on the configuration of the CNSN and on the way of routine data processing employed by the CSS in this paper. The over-all regional seismicity monitored by the CNSN in 1995–1999 is briefly reviewed. The main results of observations and evaluation of the local (NW-Bohemia/Vogtland, South Bohemia, Sudeten) and induced (Kladno, Píbram, Upper Silesia, Lubin/Poland) seismic activity within this period are presented in a condensed form. Finally, a summary on macroseismic observations on the territory of the Czech Republic in 1995–1999 is also presented. 相似文献

Algiers city is located in a seismogenic zone. To reduce the impact of seismic risk in this Capital city, a realistic modelling of the seismic ground motion (SGM) is conducted by using the hybrid method that combines the finite differences method and the modal summation. For this purpose, a complete database of geological, geophysical and earthquake data is constructed. A critical re-appraisal of the seismicity of the zone [2.25°E–3.50°E, 36.50°N–37.00°N] is performed and an earthquake list, for the period 1359–2002, is compiled. The analysis of existing and newly retrieved macroseismic information allowed the definition of earthquake parameters of macroseismic events for which a degree of reliability is assigned. Geological cross sections have been built up to model the SGM in the city, caused by the 1989 Mont-Chenoua and the 1924 Douéra earthquakes. Synthetic seismograms and response spectral ratio is produced for Algiers, and they show that the soft sediments in Algiers centre are responsible of the noticed amplification of the SGM. 相似文献

Seismic rotational displacement of gravity walls by pseudo-dynamic method: Passive case 总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
Prediction of the seismic rotational displacements of retaining wall under passive condition is an important aspect of design in earthquake prone region. In this paper, the pseudo-dynamic method is used to compute the rotational displacements of rigid retaining wall supporting cohesionless backfill under seismic loading for the passive earth pressure condition. The proposed method considers time, phase difference and effect of amplification in shear and primary waves propagating through both the backfill and the retaining wall. The influence of ground motion characteristics on rotational displacement of the wall is evaluated. Also the effects of variation of parameters like wall friction angle, soil friction angle, amplification factor, shear wave velocity, primary wave velocity, period of lateral shaking, horizontal and vertical seismic accelerations on the rotational displacements are studied. The rotational displacement of the wall increases substantially with increase in amplification of both shear and primary waves, time of input motion, period of lateral shaking and decreases with increase in soil friction angle, wall friction angle. The rotational displacements of the wall also increase when the effect of wall inertia is taken into account. Results are provided in graphical form. 相似文献

The CN algorithm is utilized here both for the intermediate term earthquake prediction and to validate the seismotectonic model of the Italian territory. Using the results of the analysis, made through the CN algorithm and taking into account the seismotectonic model, three main areas, one for Northern Italy, one for Central Italy and one for Southern Italy, are defined. Two transition areas between the three main areas are delineated. The earthquakes which occurred in these two areas contribute to the precursor phenomena identified by the CN algorithm in each main area. 相似文献

Although British Columbia experiences many natural hazards, there is as yet no unified policy to promote natural hazard management
in the province. The problem is not in the quantity and quality of geoscience assessment of natural hazards, but instead,
it is suggested, in the isolation of that work from broader risk perspectives and in the lack of clarity of division of responsibilities
between various levels of government. The example of recent changes in perception of the terrain stability problem illustrates
how natural hazard problems are driven by social and political priorities rather than by geoscience priorities.

The 3-D shell theory is employed in order to provide a new perspective to earthquake-induced strains in long cylindrical underground structures, when soil-structure interaction can be ignored. In this way, it is possible to derive analytical expressions for the distribution along the cross-section of axial, hoop and shear strains and also proceed to their consistent superposition in order to obtain the corresponding principal and von Mises strains. The resulting analytical solutions are verified against the results of 3-D dynamic FEM analyses. Seismic design strains are consequently established after optimization of the analytical solutions against the random angles which define the direction of wave propagation relative to the longitudinal structure axis, the direction of particle motion and the location on the structure cross-section. The basic approach is demonstrated herein for harmonic shear (S) waves with plane front, propagating in a homogeneous half-space or in a two layer profile, where soft soil overlays the bedrock. 相似文献

A field instrument designed for continuous radon measurement is described. It is based on a solid state electronic sensor that is housed in a rugged casing that also contains its associated electronics. This lightweight device is designed for selective counting of
α-decays with recorded count values over specified intervals being stored within the device. Real time data processing to reject spurious values is automatically performed by the instrument. Data are downloaded by means of a handheld or a laptop computer. The energy provided by alkaline batteries ensures 2 months of continuous recording in the field.
