The continental area of Portugal is now entirely covered by a soil geochemical survey (1 site/135 km2), taking as the sampling media topsoils (upper mineral horizons, A) and organic horizons (humus, O). Standard methods for sampling, sample preparation and analysis were used in order to achieve high quality and consistent data. Each sample was analyzed for 32 chemical elements, pH, electrical conductivity and organic matter content. The main purpose of the survey was to obtain baseline levels for various chemical elements. The compilation of all data (nearly 45,000 individual data) in an organised way, led to the production of the first Soil Geochemical Atlas of Portugal. In this Atlas it is possible to find for each chemical element a set of information statistics (basic statistical parameters, boxplots, cumulative frequency curves, etc.), maps of spatial distribution, among other information of geochemical and environmental interest. This paper gives an overview of the Soil Atlas and examples of application. The data were used to calculate reference values for 9 elements of environmental importance and to obtain empirical formulae allowing the estimation of elements in the coarse fraction of soils (< 2.00 mm) from known concentration in a finer fraction (< 0.18 mm). 相似文献

Cesium and Strontium concentrations were analyzed in eight pedogenetic soil profiles developed on different rocks from a semiarid
mediterranean region: La Mancha (Central Spain). Concentration activities of 137Cs and 90Sr, as for some soil properties, were also measured. The results are presented in this document: Cs concentrations range between
0.4 and 18.3 mg kg−1 and Sr varies widely between 11.0 and 3,384 mg kg−1. Therefore, it is clear that there is a broad range of concentrations and there are also values significantly higher than
the average values stated by several authors. Concentrations of long-life artificial radionuclides (137Cs, 90Sr) were determined in some of the same soils. The activity concentration mean values (Bq kg−1) were ranging between 0.82 and 21.76 for 137Cs and 90Sr variations range between 6.73 and 0.35. There were no significant correlations between radionuclides and stable trace elements.
The data indicate that the soils do not show significant radioactivity of these elements and therefore they do not pose a
danger. By the same token, no risk of contamination by this activity was detected. Finally, spatial patterns seem to be affected
by the soil type and some soil properties. 相似文献

Milazzo Peninsula soils and substrates are extremely variable, composed of acidic, mafic and ultramafic metamorphic rocks, carbonatic sedimentary rocks, and sometimes volcanic rocks, thus contributing to a mixed influence on their chemical composition. Moreover, the region is highly polluted due to atmospheric releases from anthropogenic activities, such as refinery industry. In addition, emissions of airborne particles from volcanic eruptions are also likely to fall to the ground and provide trace elements to the soils. The purpose of this study is to distinguish between anthropogenic and geogenic sources contributing to the concentrations of metals in soils by studying their distribution in major and trace elements in relation to substrates. As regards geogenic sources, the major elements composition of soils comes firstly from metamorphic rocks, secondly from carbonates, and to a minor extent from volcanic rocks. Enrichment factors calculations relative to substrate rocks, and using Th as reference element, show that the soils are enriched in As, Pb, Zn, and Ni. Rare earth elements (REEs) patterns normalized to substrate rocks exhibit enrichment in light REEs and a positive anomaly in Gd, indicating anthropogenic contributions in the soil composition. REE ratios and trace elements were plotted to investigate the relationships between anthropogenic sources and substrates in soils compositions. The graphs of La/Ni vs La/Gd and La/Ce vs La/Nd show that soils plot on a line toward substrate rocks on one side, and toward an end member which is represented by a spent catalyst and atmospheric particles emitted by refinery activities. Plots of La vs Cr, and V vs La show similar trends, whereas plots of Zn vs Ni and Pb vs V suggest that another end member, which is unidentified, contributes to soil enrichment in Zn and Pb. A binary mixing model applied to the most Zn enriched soil suggests that anthropogenic inputs from refinery emissions may have contributed to 16% of the anomalies in La/Gd. These results suggest that the trace element composition of Milazzo's peninsula soils partly bears the signature of atmospheric emissions of the refinery. 相似文献

Samples from nine Central Vietnam coastal lagoons, together with three soils and sediments collected in two freshwater reservoirs of the Thua Thien-Hué province, were analysed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). Total concentrations are low, from 192 to 2912 pg g−1 and depth profiles in Tam Giang-Cau Hai (TG-CH) sediment cores show only minor changes over time in PCDD/F input and composition. Octachloro dibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) is the prevailing congener (approximately 90%), indicating combustion as the main PCDD/F source to these coastal systems, whereas natural formation might be partly responsible for the presence at depth. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachloro dibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), largely sprayed together with Agent Orange over the study areas during the war (1961–1971), is absent or very low. This result supports the hypothesis of strong degradation soon after spraying. Multivariate statistical analyses account for the presence of local, short-range sources as observed in the northern part of the TG-CH lagoon. 相似文献

This paper has identified six major factors causing property changes in surrounding soils during and after installation of deep mixing columns: soil thixotropy, soil fracturing, cement penetration and diffusion, cementation, consolidation, and heating. Laboratory tests were performed to investigate the effects of soil thixotropy, soil fracturing, and cementation in a soft marine clay, Ariake clay. Laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate property changes in surrounding clays due to installation of deep mixing columns. Test results showed that an influential zone of property changes existed in surrounding clay ranging from the edge of the columns to the distance of about twice the radius of the columns. Within this influential zone, water content decreased as samples neared the columns, while pH values and electric conductivity increased. Test results also showed that undrained shear strengths of the surrounding clays decreased during mixing but regained after a 7-day curing period and continued increasing during 28 days in this study. 相似文献

At Segura, granitic pegmatite veins with cassiterite and lepidolite, hydrothermal Sn–W quartz veins and Ba–Pb–Zn quartz veins intruded the Cambrian schist–metagraywacke complex and Hercynian granites. Cassiterite from Sn–W quartz veins is richer in Ti and poorer in Nb and Nb+Ta than cassiterite from granitic pegmatite. Wolframite from Sn–W quartz veins is enriched in ferberite component. The Sn–W quartz veins contain pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, stannite, matildite and schapbachite and the Ba–Pb–Zn quartz veins have cobaltite, pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, galena and barite, which were analyzed by electron microprobe. The presently abandoned mining area was exploited for Sn, W, Ba and Pb until 1953. Stream sediments and soils have higher concentrations of metals than parent granites and schists. Sn, W, B, As and Cu anomalies found in stream sediments and soils are associated with Sn–W quartz veins, while Ba, Pb and Zn anomalies in stream sediments and soils are related to Ba–Pb–Zn quartz veins. Sn, W, B, As, Cu, Ba, Pb and Zn anomalies in stream sediments and soils are also related to the respective old mining activities, which increased the mobility of trace metals from mineralized veins to soils, stream sediments and waters. Stream sediments and soils are sinks of trace elements, which depend on their contents in mineralized veins and weathering processes, but Sn, W and B depend mainly on a mechanic process. Soils must not be used for agriculture and human residence due to their Sn, B, As and Ba contents. Waters associated with mineralized veins were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS) and ICP-AES have high As, Fe and Mn and should not be used for human consumption and agriculture activities. The highest As values in waters were all related to Sn–W quartz veins and the highest Fe and Mn values were associated with the Ba–Pb–Zn quartz veins. No significant acid drainage was found associated with the old mine workings. 相似文献

This paper provides data on the landforms, soils, and sediments within a unique northern Michigan landscape known as the Grayling Fingers, and evaluates these data to develop various scenarios for the geomorphic development of this region. Composed of several large, flat-topped ridges that trend N–S, the physiography of the “Fingers” resembles a hand. Previously interpreted as “remnant moraines”, the Grayling Fingers are actually a Pleistocene constructional landscape that was later deeply incised by glacial meltwater. The sediments that comprise the Fingers form a generally planar assemblage, with thick (>100 m), sandy glacial outwash forming the lowest unit. Above the outwash are several meters of till that is remarkably similar in texture to the outwash below; thus, the region is best described as an incised ground moraine. Finally, a thin silty “cap” is preserved on the flattest, most stable uplands. This sediment package and the physiography of the Fingers are suggestive of geomorphic processes not previously envisioned for Michigan.Although precise dates are lacking, we nonetheless present possible sequences of geomorphic/sedimentologic processes for the Fingers. This area was probably a topographic high prior to the advance of marine isotope stage 2 (Woodfordian) ice. Much of the glacial outwash in the Fingers is probably associated with a stagnant, early Woodfordian ice margin, implying that this interlobate area remained ice-free and ice-marginal for long periods during stage 2. Woodfordian ice eventually covered the region and deposited 5–10 m of sandy basal till over the proglacial outwash plain. Small stream valleys on the outwash surface were palimpsested onto the till surface as the ice retreated, as kettle chains and as dry, upland valleys. The larger of these valleys were so deeply incised by meltwater that they formed the large, through-flowing Finger valleys. The silt cap that occupies stable uplands was probably imported into the region, while still glaciated. The Fingers region, a col on the ice surface, could have acted as a collection basin for silts brought in as loess or in superglacial meltwater. This sediment was let down as the ice melted and preserved only on certain geomorphically stable and fluvially isolated locations. This study demonstrates that the impact of Woodfordian ice in this region was mostly erosional, and suggests that Mississippi Valley loess may have indirectly impacted this region. 相似文献
