This study investigates how the choice of the planetary boundary layer (PBL) parameterization and dust emission scheme affects the prediction of dust entrainment simulated with a regional mesoscale model. For this analysis we consider a representative dust episode which occurred on April 2001 in the Aral Sea region. The meteorological fields were simulated using the PSU/NCAR MM5 modeling system considering two different boundary layer parameterizations. In each case, emitted dust fluxes were computed off-line by incorporating MM5 meteorological fields into the dust module DuMo. Several dust emission schemes with a prescribed erodible fraction and fixed threshold wind speed were the subject of our analysis. Implications to assessment of the anthropogenic fraction of dust emitted in the Aral region were investigated by conducting the full, half, and no lake modeling experiments.Our results show that the discrepancies in dust fluxes between the two different PBLs are much higher compared to the discrepancy associated with the use of considered dust production schemes. Furthermore, the choice of the PBL affects the timing and duration of a modeled dust event. We demonstrate that different combinations of the PBL parameterization and wind- or friction velocity-driven dust emission schemes can result in up to about a 50% difference in predicted dust mass caused by the Aral Sea desiccation. We found that the drying-up of the Aral cannot only affect the dust emission by expanding the source area, but also by affecting atmospheric characteristics, especially winds. on thermal and non-thermal hydromineral manifestations that occur along or near these long tectonic alignments. The slight
chemical differences that exist between these meteoric hot and cold HCO3/Na/CO2-rich mineral waters seem to be mainly caused by CO2. δ13C(TIDC) values observed in these groundwaters range between –6.00 and –1.00‰ versus V-PDB (V denotes Vienna, the site of the International
Atomic Energy Agency; PDB originates from the CaCO3 of the rostrum of a Cretaceous belemnite, Belemnitella americana, collected in the Peedee formation of South Carolina, USA) indicating a deep-seated (mantle) origin for most of the CO2. Nevertheless, in the case of the heavier δ13C(TIDC) values, the contribution of metamorphic CO2 or the dissolution of carbonate rock levels at depth cannot be excluded. 18O-shift should be attributed to water-rock interaction in a low temperature environment, rather than to the isotopic influence
of CO2 on the δ18O-value of the waters.

The Xiangxi Au–Sb–W deposit, the largest of its type in northwestern Hunan, China, is a sulfide-dominated ore body hosted by low grade metamorphic red slates of the Neoproterozoic Madiyi Formation. Three stages of mineralization, quartz–scheelite, quartz–gold–pyrite, quartz–gold–stibnite, and one metal-barren stage of veining, quartz–calcite, are recognized. Arsenopyrite occurs only as a minor mineral phase in the second stage. Analyses for 21 trace elements show that the enrichment factors of As in the metal deposit (EC [=element concentration of sample/average content of an element in the upper crust]: 190; 43 samples) in ore veins and in the Guanzhuang and Yuershan reference sections (3.7 km and 2.7 km away from the Xiangxi mine, EC: 3.5; 96 samples) are much smaller than those of Sb (52855 [in ore veins], 117 [in the sections]), W (5665, 7.5) and Au (2727, 5.3). The background concentrations of Au and As in the two sections were 1.4 ppb and 1.4 ppm, respectively. Arsenic (with an anomaly coefficient [AC = number of anomalous samples/total number of samples] of 76%) forms a larger geochemical halo than W (AC: 8%) and Au (AC: 32%). Gold and As in the deposit were transported mainly as metal complexes such as Au(HS)−2, HnAs3S−(3−n)6 (n=1, 2 or 3) and HAsS02. Au(HS)−2 is rapidly precipitated by a geochemical oxidation barrier — the red slates of the Madiyi Formation. As–S complexes in the stratigraphic horizon can be transformed into As–O complexes (e.g., H3AsO03) under oxidizing conditions, and are continuously transported. Therefore, they can be widely distributed in the red slate units, thus forming extensive geochemical haloes, so that As can be used as an indicator element for Au exploration in the Xiangxi region. 相似文献

利用大容山自动观测站2004年8月~2006年7月气象观测资料和容县气象站1958~2006年7月测风资料,对大容山的风能资源各参数进行了详细计算和分析,并结合预选风电场的地形地貌、交通运输、联网条件、环境保护等状况对大容山风能资源开发利用进行了可行性分析评价.结果表明:大容山年平均风速为7.2m/s,年平均风功率密度为390.8W/m^2,其风能资源丰富,且交通运输、联网、工程地质等条件较好,可选择在坡度较小的山头或山腰建设风电场,预选风电场可布置750kW的风机45台,总装机容量约为34MW. 相似文献

The Mesta-Nestos river basin in Bulgaria and Greece is a case study for transboundary decision-making support in south-eastern Europe and a show-case for the development of methodologies and information-gathering for the integrated regional planning of water resources. Land-use conflicts in this water-scarce region cover a wide spectrum of activities like agricultural irrigation,drinking water production,diversions for industrial water,and risk of pollution from mining,to name a few examples. Measurements of the water quality were carried out in the upper basin. Results will be illustrated by the example of the environmental situation in the alpine region of the Pirin National Park as well as in the Razlog Basin with a stronger anthropogenic impact and pollution around a former uranium mine near the village of Ele?nica. The social and economic development of this transboundary region is a recently established priority for the future. It will mean an increase in water usage and more stress for the water resources if regional impacts of global climate change are verified. Problem-focused management of the catchment area as a whole on the basis of proved geo-data sets is needed for the future. 相似文献

The relationship between deformation and dehydration has been investigated in Hercynian regionally metamorphosed rocks exposed on NW Sardinia. Two episodes of prograde mineral growth (M1 & M2) involving dehydration are recognized: growth of chlorite/phengite porphyroblasts at anchizone metamorphic conditions, contemporaneous with the first phase of deformation, D1, and growth of biotite from chlorite and phengite coincident with the second phase of deformation, D2. Deformation during both episodes of dehydration is characterized by penetrative axial planar foliations defined by well-developed phyllosilicate preferred orientations quantified by XRD textural goniometry, tight to isoclinal similar folds (interlimb angles <40°), and mineral-filled veins (hydrofractures) orientated parallel to axial planar foliations, that formed contemporaneously with the development of the penetrative foliations. No prograde mineral growth occurred during D2 at chlorite-zone conditions. D2 deformation in the absence of dehydration is characterized by non-penetrative crenulation cleavages, poorly developed phyllosilicate preferred orientations, relatively open (interlimb angles >40°), low-strain similar folds and minor brittle deformation. Systematic variations in macrofold interlimb angles, with respect to the timing of mineral growth, indicate that enhanced shortening (c. 80%) occurred during dehydration. Microfabrics show that the onset of dehydration is associated with the transition from a crenulation cleavage to a penetrative foliation. The presence of axial planar hydrofractures that formed coevally with dehydration and fabric development requires that supralithostatic fluid pressures and low differential stresses (<c. 20 MPa) accompanied dehydration.
