Fundamentals of the theory of stochastic calculus and stochastic differential equations (SDE's) which are finding increasing application in water resources engineering are reviewed. The basics of probability theory, mean square calculus and the Wiener, white Gaussian and compound Poisson processes are given in preparation for a discussion of the general Itô SDE with drift, diffusion and jump discontinuity terms driven by Gaussian white noise and compound Poissionian impulses. Also discussed are stochastic integration and the derivation of moment equations via the Itô differential rule. This paper evaluates the American FEMA 356 and the Greek GRECO (EC 8 based) procedural assumptions for the assessment of the seismic capacity of existing buildings via pushover analyses. Available experimental results from a four-storeyed building are used to compare the two different sets of assumptions. If the comparison is performed in terms of initial stiffness or plastic deformation capacities, the different partial assumptions of the procedures lead to large discrepancies, while the opposite occurs when the comparison is performed in terms of structural performance levels at target displacements. According to FEMA 356 assumptions, effective yield point rigidities are approximately four times greater than those of EC 8. Both procedures predicted that the structure would behave elastically during low-level excitation and that the structural performance level at target displacement for a high-level excitation would be between the Immediate Occupancy and Life Safety performance levels. 相似文献

In this paper, the adaptive chirplet decomposition combined with the Wigner-Ville transform and the empirical mode decomposition combined with the Hilbert transform are employed to process various non-stationary signals (strong ground motions and structural responses). The efficacy of these two adaptive techniques for capturing the temporal evolution of the frequency content of specific seismic signals is assessed. In this respect, two near-field and two far-field seismic accelerograms are analyzed. Further, a similar analysis is performed for records pertaining to the response of a 20-story steel frame benchmark building excited by one of the four accelerograms scaled by appropriate factors to simulate undamaged and severely damaged conditions for the structure. It is shown that the derived joint time–frequency representations of the response time histories capture quite effectively the influence of non-linearity on the variation of the effective natural frequencies of a structural system during the evolution of a seismic event; in this context, tracing the mean instantaneous frequency of records of critical structural responses is adopted.The study suggests, overall, that the aforementioned techniques are quite viable tools for detecting and monitoring damage to constructed facilities exposed to seismic excitations. 相似文献

This paper investigates the non-linear seismic behavior of structures such as slender unreinforced masonry shear walls or
precast post-tensioned reinforced concrete elements, which have little hysteretic energy dissipation capacity. Even if this
type of seismic response may be associated with significant deformation capacity, it is usually not considered as an efficient
mechanism to withstand strong earthquakes. The objective of the investigations is to propose values of strength reduction
factors for seismic analysis of such structures. The first part of the study is focused on non-linear single-degree-of-freedom
(SDOF) systems. A parametric study is performed by computing the displacement ductility demand of non-linear SDOF systems
for a set of 164 recorded ground motions selected from the European Strong Motion Database. The parameters investigated are
the natural frequency, the strength reduction factor, the post-yield stiffness ratio, the hysteretic energy dissipation capacity
and the hysteretic behavior model (four different hysteretic models: bilinear self-centring, with limited or without energy
dissipation capacity, modified Takeda and Elastoplastic). Results confirm that the natural frequency has little influence
on the displacement ductility demand if it is below a frequency limit and vice versa. The frequency limit is found to be around
2 Hz for all hysteretic models. Moreover, they show that the other parameters, especially the hysteretic behavior model, have
little influence on the displacement ductility demand. New relationships between the displacement ductility demand and the
strength reduction factor for structures having little hysteretic energy dissipation capacity are proposed. These relationships
are an improvement of the equal displacement rule for the considered hysteretic models. In the second part of the investigation,
the parametric study is extended to multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems. The investigation shows that the results obtained
for SDOF systems are also valid for MDOF systems. However, the SDOF system overestimates the displacement ductility demand

In the southeastern Holstein region, located to the east of the metropolitan zone of Hamburg, northern Germany, a groundwater
investigation program was conducted from 1984 to 2000 by the State Agency for Nature and Environment (Landesamt für Natur
und Umwelt, LANU) of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, with the aim of providing long-term, ecologically acceptable groundwater
management plans for the region. The focal point of the investigation comprised the determination of groundwater recharge
rates. The investigation method was based on the transfer of available lysimeter results from other regions to comparable
regions within the area studied. With the help of lysimeter equations, potential amounts of percolation water were calculated.
The groundwater recharge rate was then determined after subtraction of the surface runoff which was calculated for the entire
area. All computations were performed with a spreadsheet program. Groundwater recharge rates were calculated for two areas.
One consisted of roughly determining groundwater recharge rates for the total region (1,392 km2) of southeastern Holstein. The overall goal of these investigations was to identify potential areas of water exploitation.
Areas in which groundwater recharge rates are high and groundwater outflow is low are particularly suited to water exploitation,
since inflow rates into deeper aquifers are high. These areas are located on the flanks of the Elbe and Stecknitz River valleys.
Subsurface groundwater runoff to these lowlands would be reduced through groundwater withdrawal. However, the resulting decline
in shallow groundwater tables would be so small that it would have no detrimental ecological effects. Groundwater recharge
rates were also calculated for a 110-km2 area in the outskirts of Hamburg (Grosshansdorf model area) which is intensively developed for water supply. These investigations
showed that the amount of groundwater recharge is already being withdrawn to a large extent. Approximately 65% of the recharge
rate is currently withdrawn by the waterworks in this area, thus making further increases in exploitation rates unjustifiable
from an ecological point of view.
