Using a fluorescence microscope and EPMA, abundant microbe ”bodies“ and clear microbic fluorescent microstructure are determined in the ferromanganese nodules recently collected from the East Pacific deep sea floor. The microbic fluorescent structure shows a close relation to the formation of the ferromanganese nodules. According to their morphological features, the microbes are classified into two types: one is named clumpy microbe, which takes a bar-shaped manganese mineral as a pillar and grows like fasciculate coral, resulting in irregular cauliflorate nodules with rough surfaces; the other is called filamentous microbe, which grows in very thin arcuate and/or concentric circular laminae composed of a microbe layer and a metal (manganese and iron)-rich layer, leading to potato-shaped nodules with relatively smooth surfaces. It also can be seen that the two types of microbes are intergrown together, resulting in nodules complicated in compositions and shapes.  相似文献

本文对影响南极生境真菌Gliocladium catenulatum T31生长和杀虫活性的初始pH值、发酵时间、培养温度等影响因子进行了研究。并以小菜蛾为试虫,以校正死亡率为评价指标,利用微型平板法对真菌T31的杀虫活性进行测试,发酵液杀虫活性最高为60.42%。发酵物乙酸乙酯提取后,丙酮溶解0.33mg/mL浓度下,发酵液提取物杀虫活性最高为82.05%,菌体提取物杀虫活性为76.92%。盆栽试验证明该菌株发酵液对小菜蛾第7d的虫口减退率为54.2%。  相似文献

The nature of benthic biofilm was assessed in four streams in New Zealand, two flowing through native tussock grassland and two through exotic Pinus radiata forest. Components of the biofilm were described using epi‐fluorescent staining (DAPI) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of rock and wood substrata. DAPI and SEM analyses showed significantly more bacteria and fungi on rock and wood in tussock as opposed to pine streams. This emphasises the importance of the heterotrophic community even in systems which have abundant light available for primary production. The lack of a significant heterotrophic biofilm in pine streams was unexpected, and we speculate that chemical characteristics of the water may be responsible.  相似文献

Numerous human activities constitute threats to biodiversity. The effects of climate change, including increasing drought in already arid lands, pose an additional layer of uncertainty in the fate of rare species. In the case of plants, reintroduction is becoming an important active management practice in species conservation. We hypothesized that even under extreme drought inoculation with mycorrhizal fungi would increase growth rates of an endangered plant in experimental reintroduction. We selected a plant species, Abronia macrocarpa, and conducted the experiment in Texas while the area was experiencing mild and extreme drought intensities. Treatment plots were planted with seed inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and control plots were planted with seed coated with autoclaved inoculant. We analyzed measurements of growth and development of germinated plants. Mean number of leaves was greater in treatment plants (P = 0.005) and mean aerial diameter was larger in treatment plants (P = 0.02) than in control plants. Significantly improved growth suggests that inoculation is a viable technique to increase reintroduction success in plant species especially during periods of drought.  相似文献

Along the southeastern coast of the United States, the saltmarsh periwinkle Littoraria irrorata is a major consumer of Spartina alterniflora . It prefers to feed on dead rather than living plants. During senescence and early decay, S. alterniflora leaves become colonized by fungi, their phenolic content declines, and their lipid content increases. In this study, the food preferences of L. irrorata were assessed by offering intact leaves or leaf powder suspended in agar. Relative palatabilities were determined by measuring the weight loss of intact leaves, or by estimating the area of feeding marks left on the surface of leaf powder suspensions. Both techniques demonstrated a clear preference for standing dead rather than yellow-green (senescent) leaves. Yellow-green leaves contained methanol-soluble feeding deterrents. A comparable deterrent effect could be achieved by adding ferulic acid, a phenolic compound common in yellow-green S. alterniflora , to leaf powder. The deterrent effects of methanol extracts or ferulic acid could be neutralized by simultaneously adding fungal mycelium or BSA. Littoraria irrorata preferred leaves colonized by fungi or bacteria over sterile leaves. When offered a choice of sterile leaves colonized by different fungi, the results were variable. In one experiment, L. irrorata clearly preferred one of three leaffungus combinations. The same preference was shown after the food items were treated with methanol/chloroform to remove lipids. In a second experiment with four other fungal strains, there was only a clear preference for one leaf-fungus combination after removal of lipids. The results suggest that the saltmarsh periwinkle prefers S. alterniflora leaves with low concentrations of phenolic deterrents, most likely ferulic acid, and with sufficient fungal biomass. The food choice may be influenced to a smaller degree by fungal components, which, depending on the species or strain, may be lipids or other compounds.  相似文献
