The concept of autosuspension implies that if, in a flow transporting suspended sediment down a slope, the sediment adds more energy to the flow than it extracts, the concentration can rise to an indefinitely high level. This was tested in a small closed duct, with variable slope, connecting two free-surface reservoirs. The sediment-carrying flow could be recirculated continuously from the downstream end of the duct to the upstream end. For each of five sediment sizes ranging from 14 μm to 96 μm, two flows at the same discharge were run, one with zero slope and one with a slope chosen so that autosuspension should have been in effect. Something is wrong with the autosuspension criterion: in each set of runs, equilibrium suspended-sediment concentrations were virtually identical in the two cases. Analysis of the term in the autosuspension criterion expressing work done by the flow to suspend sediment shows that this quantity is much smaller than is assumed in autosuspension, and so the criterion should have been even more strongly oversatisfied in our tests. Although both the energy-expenditure form and energy-contribution form in the criterion have a physical reality, comparison of the two has no relevance to the equilibrium state of the flow; autosuspension is based on an irrelevant system of energy bookkeeping. Suspension must be viewed as limited by factors involving alterations in turbulence structure leading to changes both in boundary resistance and in the ability of the flow to entrain and suspend sediment. 相似文献

Submerged vanes are hydrofoils utilized to manage the sediment transport through the river by generating the turbulence in the flow in the form of helical currents.The vanes are placed in the flow with respect to its direction at angle of 10°to 40°.In the current study,an attempt has been made to study the effect of the introduction of vanes in form of rows on parameters like turbulence intensities,Reynolds stresses,turbulent kinetic energy,anisotropy index,and the velocity profile of the flow.It is observed that the profile of variation of turbulence intensities,turbulent kinetic energy,vertical Reynolds stress and velocity over three different marked verticals on a transect are nearly identical whereas a large scatter is observed in the variation of transverse Reynolds stress over the vertical of the aforementioned vertical locations.This observation suggests that flow turbulence is homogeneous over the vertical while scattering in the variation of the transverse Reynolds stress component may be attributed to the presence of secondary currents in the flow.After introducing rows of submerged vanes,the bed turbulence is reduced,hence,helping reduce many scour related phenomenon.It is also observed that a vortex occurred at 0.85 times the height of the vane and the variation of turbulence quantities in the presence of vanes shows the existence of a peak in these quantities.It is observed that as flow moves away from the vane rows,due to the interaction of vortices and the action of vorticity,vortices dampens down and the flow regains homogeneity.After the introduction of submerged vane rows,bed shear stress reduces as fluid from the surface replaces the slow-moving fluid near the bed due to the secondary currents generated by the vanes leading to reduction in the magnitude of turbulence intensities,Reynolds stresses,and turbulent kinetic energy near the bed.The anisotropy index is observed to increase near the bed as induced secondary currents enhanced the turbulence production in the near bed region.All the profiles of parameters obtained in the current study show the existence of a peak or inflexions at a height of 0.85 H from bed(Where,H is the height of the submerged vane).Profiles of parameters obtained in the current study suggest that as the vorticity dampens the vane-generated secondary currents,the scattering in the profiles along the vertical reduces and profiles are observed to regain the variation which they had before the introduction of vane rows,suggesting that flow turbulence has regained its homogeneity. 相似文献

基于对沙埕港湾口断面的连续走航观测资料,成功构建了沿走航断面的10个站点的连续海流序列,并分析了潮流、余流、潮通量等水文要素。分析结果表明,沙埕港湾口水道潮流类型为正规半日潮流,涨潮最先出现在中下层而落潮最先出现在上层,涨(落)潮转流相差约为30min。水道内潮流为往复流,M2和S2分潮流流速较大,倾角基本沿水道主轴方向。沙埕港湾口断面余流呈2层结构,10m以浅基本为东南向余流流出湾口,核心位于湾口断面南侧。10m以深多为西北向流入湾内,入流核心位于湾口断面中部的底层区域。对潮通量的计算表明,通过湾口进入沙埕港的潮通量约为1.63×108m3。 相似文献

Wind- and current-driven flotsam, oil spills, pollutants, and nutrients, approaching the nearshore will frequently appear to slow down/park just beyond the break zone, where waves break. Moreover, the portion of these tracers that beach will do so only after a long time. Explaining why these tracers park and at what rate they reach the shore has important implications on a variety of different nearshore environmental issues, including the determination of what subscale processes are essential in computer models for the simulation of pollutant transport in the nearshore. Using a simple model we provide an explanation for the underlying mechanism responsible for the parking of tracers, not subject to inertial effects, the role played by the bottom topography, and the non-uniform dispersion which leads, in some circumstances, to the eventual landing of all or a portion of the tracers. We refer to the parking phenomenon in this environment as nearshore sticky waters. 相似文献

We present an initial assessment of SARAL/AltiKa data in the coastal band. The study focuses on the Ibiza Channel where the north-south water exchanges play a key role in controlling the circulation variability in the western Mediterranean. In this area, the track 16 of SARAL/AltiKa intercepts the domain covered by a coastal high-frequency (HF) radar system, which provides surface currents with a range up to 60 km. We evaluate the performance of the SARAL/AltiKa Ssalto/Duacs delayed-time along-track products compared to the HF radar surface velocity fields. SARAL/AltiKa data are retrieved at a distance of only 7 km from the coast, putting in evidence the emerging capabilities of the new altimeter. The derived velocities resolved the general features of the seasonal mesoscale variability with reasonable agreement with HF radar fields (significant correlations of 0.54). However, some discrepancies appear, which might be caused by instrumental hardware radar errors, ageostrophic velocities as well as inaccurate corrections and editing in the altimeter data. Root mean square (rms) differences between the estimated SARAL/AltiKa and the HF radar velocities are about 13 cm/s. These results are consistent with recent studies in other parts of the ocean applying similar approaches to Topex/Poseidon and Jason-1 missions and using coastal altimeter corrections. 相似文献

Contourite is one of the most important type of sediments in the global ocean, which has recorded significant information on paleoclimatic changes. It is also of great importance for ocean engineering and marine hydrocarbon exploration. The development of scientific ocean drilling, especially the “Integrated Ocean Drilling Program” and the undergoing “International Ocean Discovery Program”, has made great contribution in mapping the spatial distribution of contourites and revealing contourite-related paleoclimatic information, through coring and geophysical exploration in the global ocean. It is found that the global distribution of contourites is controlled predominantly by the global deep-water circulation while its distribution in a specific region can be affected by the intensity of deep currents, tectonic activities, sediment supply, and so on. The geological changes in the global deep-water circulation is, however, further affected by tectonic activities, origins of water masses, as well as climate changes, e.g. the Cenozoic global cooling, changes in the size of the northern hemisphere ice caps, and intensity of monsoon. 异重流的形成是影响活性污泥系统二沉池水力学性能的主要因素,形成异重流的主要原因包括沉淀池内不均匀的污泥分布和温度分布。采用多相流欧拉模型、标准k-ε湍流模型和Boussinesq假设研究了二沉池中活性污泥和表面散热引起的异重流。表面散热的计算采用经验方程,数值计算结果同实验结果作了比较,结果表明模型能较好地预测辐流式二沉池的流场、温度场和污泥分布。研究还表明,Frp2Gr/Re2表示了不均匀温度分布引起的浮升力与不均匀污泥分布引起的作用力的比值,用它可以判断两种作用力在异重流的形成当中的相对大小。 相似文献
