Introducing the near infrared VLTI instrument AMBER to its users

AMBER is the General User near infrared focal instrument of the Very Large Telescope Interferometer. It is a single mode, dispersed fringes, three telescope instrument. A limiting magnitude of the order of H=13 will allow tackling of a fair sample of extra galactic targets. A very high accuracy, in particular in color differential phase and closure phase modes gives good hope for very high dynamical range observations, possibly including hot extra solar planets. The relatively high maximum spectral resolution, up to 10000, will allow stellar activity observations. Between these extreme goals, AMBER has a wide range of applications including Young Stellar Objects, Evolved Stars, circumstellar material and many others. Extending the observable zenith angle of FAST using an offset feed

The five hundred meter aperture spherical radio telescope is will use an active spherical reflector. When the zenith scan angle is changed, the illuminated part of the reflecting surface is made to fit a paraboloid of revolution in real time by active control. The maximum zenith scan angle |ψ_max| of FAST is 30^° under conditions of the geometry selected in order that the feed does not illuminate the ground. The result of this paper shows that the maximum zenith scan angle |ψ_max| can be extended to 69^° by offsetting the feed. Model Validation and Performance Evaluation for The Multi-Tethered Aerostat Subsystem of the Large Adaptive Reflector

The Canadian design for the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope includes a large multi-tethered aerostat to support the telescope’s receiver. To validate this design concept, two parallel tracks have been undertaken: a numerical simulation of the multi-tethered aerostat system has been assembled, and a one-third scale prototype of the system has been constructed. This paper describes the experimental facility, presents results from initial tests of the uncontrolled system and compares these results to the predictions of the computer model of the system. Generally, the results compare very favourably. Using the simulation, we arrive at two important design philosophies to be used in the design of the full-scale system: (a) perturbations on the confluence point should be minimized, and (b) the system stiffness should be maximized to ensure minimum response to disturbances.  相似文献

大口径望远镜反射面日照温度场效应实验研究

针对大口径射电望远镜主反射面在日照作用下产生温度梯度及形变问题,建立了完整的温度测量及精度评估的系统。在特定的测量条件下,利用红外热像仪测量了望远镜主反射面的温度,获得了不同时刻的温度分布情况,并得到最大温差为7.8℃。采用全息法分析主反射面的精度变化情况,得到由于温度变化导致的最大误差为0.33 mm。结果表明:温度对望远镜主反射面的精度影响较大,需采取合适的测试系统实时监测温度,并调整主反射面板以提高精度。  相似文献

对上海65 m口径射电望远镜方位轨道进行了静态力学分析。用温克尔弹性地基梁模型对轨道承载弯矩及地基受力作了估算,用赫兹接触理论对滚轮与轨道接触面的接触应力作了分析计算,为合理选择轨道材料和制定轨道焊接工艺方案提供了设计理论依据。  相似文献
