A New Species of Megarhyphus,an Interesting Discovery from the Lower Jurassic of England(Diptera,Anisopodidae)
<正>The oldest representative of the genus Megarhyphus Kovalev(Diptera:Anisopodidae)is described from the Lower Jurassic(Sinemurian)of England.A summary of our knowledge of Jurassic Anisopodidae is given.

Avenaphora gallica sp. nov., second representative of this dolichopodid genus, and Cretomicrophorus piolencensis sp. nov., third representative of this genus, are described from a new lower Santonian amber outcrop in Southern France. The relationships of Avenaphora in the Empidoidea are discussed. Avenaphora gallica and Cretomicrophorus piolencensis were found in a marine littoral swamp palaeoenvironment, as for many modern Parathalassiinae.

Sinonemestrius 《Cretaceous Research》2000,21(6):761
A distinctive but rare fly, Sinonemestrius akirai sp. nov. (family Xyophagidae), is described from the upper Hauterivian of southern England. This extends the range of the genus Sinonemestrius outside of China for the first time, and supports a Cretaceous date for the Laiyang Formation.

A New Species Group in the Genus Tanytarsus van der Wulp(Diptera:Chironomidae)Based on a Fossil Record from Baltic Amber
<正>A new fossil chironomid,Tanytarsus serafini, found in Baltic amber is described and illustrated based on adult males. The new species and similar extant species of the genus Tanytarsus van der Wulp are compared. Due to several distinct characters of wing, legs and hypopygium,a new species group for Tanytarsus serafini is proposed, and its diagnostic features are evaluated.

Community Structure in the Amber Forest: Study of the Arthropod Syninclusia in the Rovno Amber(Late Eocene of Ukraine)

<正>Arthropodan syninclusions in the Late Eocene Rovno amber were examined using x~2 to reveal correlation of the component groups(some taxa of Diptera, ants, aphids, and mites) supposedly indicative of the biocoenotic relationships in the ancient amber forest.Three tightly correlated groups were identified, representing a putative aerial plankton guild(Chironomidae+Ceratopogonidae) and two tree-trunk guilds, one of which (Dolichopodidae+Germaraphis) is possibly connected to more open or/and more hygrophilous habitats than the other(Sciara zone Diptera +"Acarus"rhombeus). The ants were not linked with any of the above components.

Three new species, Lebanoculicoides excantabris, Archiaustroconops borkenti, and Atriculicoides szadziewskii are described from the Early Cretaceous (early Albian) El Soplao amber deposit (Rábago, Cantabria, northern Spain). Protoculicoides skalskii Szadziewski and Arillo, found in the other Albian Spanish ambers from Peñacerrada I (in Burgos) and San Just (in Teruel), and Austroconops sp., are identified from this new outcrop. The find of a new species of Lebanoculicoides Szadziewski is especially significant since this genus is considered the basalmost known among ceratopogonids. To date, the new species of Atriculicoides Remm is the oldest occurrence for this genus. A general review of the taxonomy and phylogeny of the family Ceratopogonidae, and the palaeoecological significance and palaeogeographic distribution of its basalmost lineages are given. The new data extend knowledge about biting midges during the Early Cretaceous, a key period for understanding the phylogenetic relationships of the ancient members of the family.

This study records the Diptera fauna (excluding Culicidae) breeding in phytotelmata in the Auckland and Wellington regions of New Zealand, particularly in native forest habitats. Diptera larvae were relatively abundant in the leaf axils of the native epiphyte Collospermum hastatum, and in the fallen leaves of the native nikau palm Rhypalostylis sapida. Chironomidae and Tipulidae were the most common families collected, but larvae of Anisopodidae, Ceratopogonidae, Empididae, Psychodidae, and Syrphidae were also present.

The rhagionid Lebanoleptis huangi gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Lower Cretaceous amber of Lebanon. It is characterized, illustrated, and compared with the recent and fossil genera having the same particular absence of wing vein M3. Other Mesozoic flies with similar venation and currently attributed to the Rhagionidae are briefly discussed and should be revised.

The larval head capsules of Sciaridae (black fungus gnats) are transported into lakes from terrestrial habitats, in most cases
via streams or rivers, and preserve well in lake sediments. The abundance of sciarid remains can provide information on the
importance of terrestrial and running-water input into fossil insect assemblages in lake sediments if examined in relation
to the number of fossils of aquatic insects such as the Chironomidae, Thaumaleidae, Ceratopogonidae, or Simuliidae. Here we
describe fossil head capsules of sciarid larvae and provide an example of how these remains can be used to constrain past
changes in taphonomic processes that influence fossil chironomid records.
