During a marine geophysical survey of the Bismarck Sea by the Australian Bureau of Mineral Resources in 1970, magnetic, gravity, and seismic reflection recordings were made along north‐south traverses with a spacing of 30 to 40 km. The magnetic data have been interpreted, first by visual inspection of magnetic and topographic trends and then by two‐dimensional computer modelling along typical profiles. The interpretation indicates that the Bismarck Sea is divided into two main tectonic provinces separated by a boundary which roughly coincides with a line joining Manus Island and the Willaumez Peninsula of New Britain. An area of apparently nonmagnetic basement about 10 km wide coincides with a well defined band of shallow earthquakes which runs east‐west across the centre of the Sea. A major boundary is present at the eastern end of the Sea along the west coast of the Gazelle Peninsula of New Britain; it continues along an offset in the band of earthquakes to New Hanover.  相似文献

Coastal seas, and in particular estuarine systems, were significantly affected by Quaternary sea level changes. Furthermore, the dynamics of shelf and coastal evolution have had a strong impact on coastal landscapes inhabited by humans. The postglacial evolution of the vast North Sea shelf with its huge drainage systems, e.g. the Elbe Paleovalley and its tributary system, is an excellent research target to understand how coastal shelf environments change in response to sea level rise. In this study, we investigate infill sediments of the Paleo‐Ems valley – a drowned extension of the modern Ems River and part of the Elbe Paleovalley drainage system. Radiocarbon‐dated transgression sequences provide several new observations regarding the mode and rate of the river system submerging due to the Holocene transgression. Thus, the Paleo‐Ems valley submerged within a short time span of~200 years since the river was not able to adjust its gradient to the rapid rising sea level. The fate of the Paleo‐Ems is exemplary for the rapid change of a former fluvial landscape into a coastal landscape and finally into a submarine seascape. © 2019 The Authors. Reliable chronology is critical for reconstructing estuarine delta process. In this study, detailed chronological framework has been performed on a core HPQK01 (52 m in depth) from the central Pearl River delta (PRD) of China. Both quartz OSL and feldspar post-IR IRSL (pIRIR) methods for late Pleistocene sediments, as well as radiocarbon dating for Holocene sediments, were applied to date the core. Results show that quartz OSL ages range from 125 ± 18 ka to 58 ± 6 ka, and that all of them were minimum ages due to the OSL signal saturation. Feldspar pIR200IR290 protocol shows some overestimation in dose recovery test, with the recovered to the given ratio of 1.2, while a ratio of around 1 was obtained for feldspar pIR50IR250 signals. Robust ages have been obtained from feldspar fading corrected pIR50IR250 dating with ages ranging from 150 ± 17 ka to 98 ± 12 ka. AMS 14C results suggest that subtidal-intertidal zone was deposited during the middle Holocene from 8.21 ± 0.19 cal ka BP to 4.99 ± 0.25 cal ka BP. The sedimentology of core HPQK01 record two marine transgressive-regressive cycles. Based on the dating results, the lower fluvial sediment unit (T2) could be correlated to marine isotope stage (MIS) 6, and the lower marine unit (M2) was deposited during MIS 5. A sedimentary hiatus occurred with age range of from MIS 4 to MIS 2. Since middle Holocene, another marine stratum (M1) has been accumulated. Overall, our findings suggest that feldspar pIRIR dating method has the potential to establish the Quaternary chronostratigraphic framework of the PRD for samples with ages within 150 ka.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. In order to view the establishment of new religions centers and how they are received by local populations, I analyze such basic geographical concepts as scale, space, location, and image. I see how these can alter the perception and further refine the concept of spatial transgression in three case studies in Israel: the building of the Mormon Center in Jerusalem, the establishment of the Bahá‘í Gardens in Haifa, and the struggle to build a mosque in Nazareth. In this article I seek to identify the factors influencing the presence or absence of conflict to help explain the different “stories” revealed. The article also constitutes an addition to the literature on Israeli (and Palestinian) religiogeographical controversies by focusing on nonmainstream or nondominant cases and by comparing the relative roles of different factors that shape the success or failure of spatial transgressions in religious geography.  相似文献

通过分别对辽东半岛东侧大洋河平原中部的D65孔岩心做连续的硅藻分析,以及对辽东半岛西侧的长兴岛八岔沟古泻湖平原B3孔、下辽河平原的机械钻孔X33及手动钻孔X11和X21等钻孔岩心做连续的粘土混浊水电导率测定,得到各岩心的硅藻图谱/或粘土混浊水电导率图谱。显示出在这些海岸平原均有厚度在6m以上的海相层存在。表明全新世海侵时海水达到并长期占据这些海岸平原。同时还显示在这些海相地层的5~7m深处,普遍存在一层陆相或海陆交互相地层,通过对各地点已有的14C年代数据分析,推测这层陆相层或海陆交互相地层应该形成于全新世海面上升的早全新世—中全新世时期。表明全新世海进期当中,辽宁沿海普遍存在一次海退地质事件。从下辽河平原样品的14C测年数据,推测这次海退时期大致在9300~8000aB.P.(校正年)。  相似文献

水进砂在水进过程中被侵蚀、淘洗、搬运,其沉积特征明显有别于背景砂体,表现出明显的穿时性。水进砂的发现完善了层序地层学理论,同时它在油气储存运移、原油物性预测以及油气勘探开发方面也有重要价值。本文从砂体的性质、来源、所处背景砂体的环境以及发育的构造条件4个方面对水进砂进行了分类,并总结了具代表性的形成机制:地层响应模型、水进型三角洲模型、海侵—海退模型、水动力模型、下切谷模型和潮汐改造的沙脊模型。近年来,相关学者在传统沉积学的基础上,又运用水动力学、遗迹学和不整合面识别等比较独特的方法对水进砂进行了研究。未来水进砂的研究工作将不再局限于海相砂体中,同时将运用更精细的方法对水进砂进行更深入的研究。  相似文献

To elucidate the signature of isostatic and eustatic signals during a deglaciation period in pre‐Pleistocene times is made difficult because very little dating can be done, and also because glacial erosion surfaces, subaerial unconformities and subsequent regressive or transgressive marine ravinement surfaces tend to amalgamate or erode the deglacial deposits. How and in what way can the rebound be interpreted from the stratigraphic record? This study proposes to examine deglacial deposits from Late‐Ordovician to Silurian outcrops at the Algeria–Libya border, in order to define the glacio–isostatic rebound and relative sea‐level changes during a deglaciation period. The studied succession developed at the edge and over a positive palaeo‐relief inherited from a prograding proglacial delta that forms a depocentre of glaciogenic deposits. The succession is divided into five subzones, which depend on the topography of this depocentre. Six facies associations were determined: restricted marine (Facies Association 1); tidal channels (Facies Association 2); tidal sand dunes (Facies Association 3); foreshore to upper shoreface (Facies Association 4); lower shoreface (Facies Association 5); and offshore shales (Facies Association 6). Stratigraphic correlations over the subzones support the understanding of the depositional chronology and associated sea‐level changes. Deepest marine domains record a forced regression of 40 m of sea‐level fall resulting from an uplift caused by a glacio‐isostatic rebound that outpaces the early transgression. The rebound is interpreted to result in a multi‐type surface, which is interpreted as a regressive surface of marine erosion in initially marine domains and as a subaerial unconformity surface in an initially subaerial domain. The transgressive deposits have developed above this surface, during the progressive flooding of the palaeo‐relief. Sedimentology and high‐resolution sequence stratigraphy allowed the delineation of a deglacial sequence and associated sea‐level changes curve for the studied succession. Estimates suggest a relatively short (<10 kyr) duration for the glacio‐isostatic uplift and a subsequent longer duration transgression (4 to 5 Myr).  相似文献

文章回顾了1965年李四光先生追寻末次冰期对环境影响的讲话,以及40余年来在天津-河北沿海钻孔地层中、末次盛冰期下切河谷的发现过程。在源到汇过程中,起码自晚更新世以来,研究区已经是古黄河沉积区,多处发现的末次盛冰期下切河谷底板多位于30~32 m深度,低于全新统底板一般在20 m的深度;与长江口地区钻孔末次盛冰期下切河谷深62 m相比,研究区下切河谷规模不如前者,也没有一个统一的大河口。末次盛冰期下切河谷最远地点,是距现代海岸约80 km的河北省孟村回族自治县县城北侧,即西汉黄河亚三角洲叶瓣顶部。众多钻孔见早全新世快速沉积,只能是黄河支流有这样充足的泥沙供给,在局部顶托了早全新世海侵作用发生。   相似文献
