We investigate repeating aftershocks associated with the great 2004 Sumatra–Andaman (Mw 9.2) and 2005 Nias–Simeulue (Mw 8.6) earthquakes by cross-correlating waveforms recorded by the regional seismographic station PSI and teleseismic stations. We identify 10 and 18 correlated aftershock sequences associated with the great 2004 Sumatra and 2005 Nias earthquakes, respectively. The majority of the correlated aftershock sequences are located near the down-dip end of a large afterslip patch. We determine the precise relative locations of event pairs among these sequences and estimate the source rupture areas. The correlated event pairs identified are appropriately referred to as repeating aftershocks, in that the source rupture areas are comparable and significantly overlap within a sequence. We use the repeating aftershocks to estimate afterslip based on the slip-seismic moment scaling relationship and to infer the temporal decay rate of the recurrence interval. The estimated afterslip resembles that measured from the near-field geodetic data to the first order. The decay rate of repeating aftershocks as a function of lapse time t follows a power-law decay 1/tp with the exponent p in the range 0.8–1.1. Both types of observations indicate that repeating aftershocks are governed by post-seismic afterslip.  相似文献

利用射线追踪方法对新疆伽师地区的重复地震进行位置归一处理,提高走时精度以达到观测伽师—乌恰和伽师—阿合奇地区地壳介质变化的目的。计算了伽师地区2005年1月至2011年3月ML≥2.5重复地震序列经射线追踪和波形互相关方法校正后的P波走时差。结果显示,在2009年2月20日柯坪5.4级地震前阿合奇台的记录观察到该地区短期的地壳介质速度明显升高现象,2010年6月10日乌恰5.2级地震前乌恰台也同样记录观察到该现象。  相似文献

基于研究区域地震震相到时资料及地震波数据,给出了两个局部地区地壳介质微动态变化的实例。一个是汶川8.0级地震起始破裂区域,即A区;另一个是三岔口地区,即B区,该区域为活动断裂交汇部位,未发生过大地震,但近年来中小地震频繁。分析A区后发现,在汶川8.0级地震前,部分台站观测的地壳介质微动态出现了中短期异常,震源区正东及北东方向波速升高,反映出地壳介质受到显著挤压而处于硬化阶段;震源区西南方向的波速则比较稳定。分析B区后发现,可能受到汶川8.0级地震的影响,部分台站给出的计算结果在地震前后发生了变化,显示出不同方位地壳介质承压状态的差异。  相似文献

利用云南数字地震台网1999—2015年的波形资料,通过识别在断层同一位置发生的重复微震来估算红河断裂带北段不同孕震深度的断层滑动速率.针对研究区台站分布稀疏的客观情况,采用基于子采样条件下S-P相对到时差约束地震相对位置,从而确保震源位置一致性的方法,在红河断裂带北段及其附近区域识别出23组重复微震,其复发间隔变化明显.重复微震的时空变化初步分析表明,研究区频繁的背景地震活动和相邻较近的重复微震之间的相互作用都会对重复微震的复发间隔产生影响.利用重复微震的震级和复发间隔,估算得到红河断裂带北段6.0~13.4km孕震深处的滑动速率为2.3~10.0mm·a-1,显示不同孕震深度的滑动速率存在差异.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we describe the results of a first pilot experiment of passive seismic monitoring near the active Longqi hydrothermal vent at the Southwest Indian Ridge during Chinese cruise DY115-30. During 102-day experiment, we recorded over 2,000 seismic events on a single ocean bottom seismometer with hydrophone close to the hydrothermal field. We classified these events into the following three classes based on their time–frequency characteristics: (1) volcano tectonic microearthquakes (VTMs); (2) regional earthquakes; (3) short-duration events (SDEs). We preliminarily located the 1,277 VTMs using a single-station location method. Our results revealed hypocenters primarily beneath the axial valley ridge which is about 10?km away from hydrothermal vent and extending to the upper mantle at a depth of 15?km. Two discrete swarms of VTMs occurred during our survey period. The SDEs show a complex frequency characteristics ascribed to clusters of monochromatic waves around different frequencies. This suggests that SDEs result from combination of harmonic waves resonating in fluid-filled pipes and cracks.  相似文献

For microearthquake surveys conducted with small networks in regions where the seismic velocity structure has large vertical gradients, the formal errors accompanying hypocentral solutions obtained by a generalized inverse method may be misleading since they do not incorporate the effects of nonlinearity in travel times. An alternative method for estimating uncertainties involves calculating travel time residuals over a regular grid and using the F statistic to contour confidence volumes. We present a statistical expression for the latter confidence limits that is applicable when an independent estimate of arrival time errors is available from observations accumulated for a number of earthquakes. Synthetic experiments comparing the results of the grid search and generalized inverse methods show that in cases where solutions are obtained either without S wave information or for epicenters which lie well outside the network, the effects of nonlinearity on the shape of the confidence regions may be significant. However, for the well-observed events both methods yield comparable confidence volumes in good agreement with the distribution of hypocenters obtained from repeated locations incorporating random errors. The generalized inverse method has the advantage that it requires fewer calculations, so the examination of systematic errors in hypocentral parameters produced by uncertainties in the seismic velocity structure can be studied in a more computationally efficient manner. Except in the cases of poorly resolved earthquakes, the effects of nonlinearity on uncertainties in hypocentral parameters can be observed by the application of the F statistic to the variation of the generalized inverse travel time residuals with focal depth.  相似文献
