Morphometric differences were used to elucidate the stock geographic variations and phylogeography of Macrobrachium nipponense in Taiwan. Eight samples were collected from three estuaries (Tamsui River Estuary [TSE], Kaoping River Estuary [KPE], and Houlung River Estuary [HLE]) and five reservoirs (Shimen Reservoir [SMR], Mingde Reservoir [MDR], Deji Reservoir [DJR], Tsengwen Reservoir [TWR], and Chengqing Lake Reservoir [CLR]). Twelve morphometric measurements were size-standardized by the allometric method and via Cluster Analysis and Canonical Variate Analysis (CVA). Randomisation tests were used to verify the morphometric variation between groups. The results clustered the eight samples into a minimum of three groups. The first group included four reservoir samples (i.e. DJR, MDR, CLR, and TWR); the second included the SMR sample, and the third comprised the remaining estuarine samples (i.e. TSE, HLE, and KPE). Morphometric variation among the three groups was significant for each sex. Significant differences between these three groups may be derived from evolutionary origins, geographic events or environmental adaption which was discussed in the paper. The difference between multivariate allometric coefficients in both sexes and sites were also tested based on the eight group data sets, and the result showed that the difference between sexes was significant.  相似文献

The biogeographic history of the African rain forests has been contentious. Phylogeography, the study of the geographic distribution of genetic lineages within species, can highlight the signatures of historical events affecting the demography and distribution of species (i.e. population fragmentation or size changes, range expansion/contraction) and, thereby, the ecosystems they belong to. The accumulation of recent data for African rain forests now enables a first biogeographic synthesis for the region. In this review, we explain which phylogeographic patterns are expected under different scenarios of past demographic change, and we give an overview of the patterns detected in African rain forest trees to discuss whether they support alternative hypotheses regarding the history of the African rain forest cover. The major genetic discontinuities in the region support the role of refugia during climatic oscillations, though not necessarily following the classically proposed scenarios. We identify in particular a genetic split between the North and the South of the Lower Guinean region. Finally we provide some perspectives for future study.  相似文献

Niphargus puteanus is the oldest described species of its genus and, in the past, was used as a taxonomic annotation for any subterranean amphipod record. For that reason, no clear knowledge exists about its actual range size and habitat preferences. We here applied a molecular taxonomic and phylogeographical approach based on mitochondrial and nuclear DNA to shed light on its distribution and to infer its demographic history. Furthermore, we analysed aquifer types and water flow regimes to provide a clearer picture of the species’ ecological requirements.Our results indicate that N. puteanus is widely distributed north of the Alps, having its core range in the geomorphological natural region of the ‘South German Scarplands’ (SGS). Additionally, isolated satellite populations exist in the Taunus and the Sauerland, and two single individuals were collected in Luxembourg and in Austria, respectively. The species’ maximal distribution range reaches 756 km between the two single-specimen records and 371 km within the SGS. A very high haplotype diversity was observed, revealing the presence of seven haplotype groups. All the haplogroups were present in the SGS and exhibited distinct spatial-genetic patterns. We thus inferred a high degree of population isolation, with the SGS being a potential long-term refugium for N. puteanus. Historical drift of specimens along major riverine networks (Rhine, Danube) may provide an evolutionary dispersal mechanism explaining the formation of satellite populations.From an ecological perspective, populations of N. puteanus were found to be closely associated with fast-flowing spring environments within fissured aquifers. This species should therefore be classified as both crenophile and stygophile, effectively exploiting resources of surface as well as subsurface spring waters.  相似文献

As a result of aquaculture activities Pacific oysters Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg, 1793) have invaded the European Wadden Sea. Using a variable noncoding mitochondrial marker, we show that the invaded range is the result of two independent invasions. Haplotype frequencies point towards two separate groups, one in the southern and the other in the northern Wadden Sea. We found virtually no genetic differentiation throughout the southern range and the putative source from British Columbia, Canada, suggesting that the Southern region can be considered as a closed population. In the North, mismatch distributions, haplotype ordination and isolation-by-distance analysis suggest a stronger, persistent impact of aquaculture on invasive populations. Due to the ongoing supply of new genetic material from hatchery production the northern invasive populations can therefore be considered as an open population highlighting the importance of aquaculture practice on the genetics of this keystone invader in the Wadden Sea.  相似文献
