An experimental investigation was undertaken to study the effects of lime-stabilized soil-cushion on the strength behavior
of expansive soil. In the present investigation, a series of laboratory tests (Unconfined compression tests and CBR tests)
were conducted on both expansive soil alone and expansive soil cushioned with lime-stabilized non-expansive cohesive soil.
Lime contents of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% by dry weight of cohesive non-swelling soil was used in the stabilized soil cushion. Both
expansive soil and lime stabilized soil cushion were compacted to Standard Proctor’s optimum condition with thickness ratio
2:1. Tests on cushioned expansive soils were conducted at different curing and soaking periods i.e., 7, 14, 28 and 56 days.
The test results revealed that maximum increase in strength was achieved after 14 days of curing or soaking period with 8%

Public perceptions of rainfall change in India 总被引：1，自引：1，他引：0
People’s perceptions of changes in local weather patterns are an important precursor to proactive adaptation to climate change. In this paper, we consider public perceptions of changes in average rainfall in India, analyzing the relationship between perceptions and the instrumental record. Using data from a national sample survey, we find that local instrumental records of precipitation are a strong predictor of perceived declines in rainfall. Perceptions of decreasing rainfall were also associated with perceptions of changes in extreme weather events, such as decreasing frequency of floods and severe storms, increasing frequency of droughts, and decreasing predictability of the monsoon. Higher social vulnerability—including low perceived adaptive capacity and greater food and livelihood dependence on local weather—was also associated with perceptions of decreasing rainfall. While both urban and rural respondents were likely to perceive local changes in precipitation, we show that rural respondents in general were more sensitive to actual changes in precipitation. Individual perceptions of changes in local climate may play an important role in shaping vulnerability to global climate change, adaptive behavior, and support for adaptation and mitigation policies. Awareness of local climate change is therefore particularly important in regions where much of the population is highly exposed and sensitive to the impacts of climate change. 相似文献

This paper investigates the stability of triangular equilibrium points (L 4,5) in the elliptic restricted three-body problem (ER3BP), when both oblate primaries emit light energy simultaneously. The positions of the triangular points are seen to shift away from the line joining the primaries than in the classical case on account of the introduction of the eccentricity, semi-major axis, radiation and oblateness factors of both primaries. This is shown for the binary systems Achird, Luyten 726-8, Kruger 60, Alpha Centauri AB and Xi Bootis. We found that motion around these points is conditionally stable with respect to the parameters involved in the system dynamics. The region of stability increases and decreases with variability in eccentricity, oblateness and radiation pressures. 相似文献

The Sustainable Forestry and African American Land Retention Program (SFLR) was launched in 2012 to increase adoption of sustainable forestry practices among African American landowners in the southeastern United States to prevent land loss, increase forest health, and build economic assets. One of its main goals was to build communication networks through which African American landowners could obtain and share information about forestry practices and landowner assistance programs independent of public agencies. To measure and examine the growth of these communication networks over a three-year period (2014-2017), we conducted 87 interviews with landowners (24 of whom were interviewed multiple times), SFLR personnel, and Federal and State staff members in North Carolina. We used complementary methods of data gathering and analysis, including social network analysis and qualitative analysis. Our results showed expanding communication networks will be sustained independently of the program over time, although there is still a heavy reliance on program personnel. 相似文献

This paper studies the existence and stability of equilibrium points under the influence of small perturbations in the Coriolis and the centrifugal forces, together with the non-sphericity of the primaries. The problem is generalized in the sense that the bigger and smaller primaries are respectively triaxial and oblate spheroidal bodies. It is found that the locations of equilibrium points are affected by the non-sphericity of the bodies and the change in the centrifugal force. It is also seen that the triangular points are stable for 0<μ<μ c and unstable for \(\mu_{c}\le\mu <\frac{1}{2}\), where μ c is the critical mass parameter depending on the above perturbations, triaxiality and oblateness. Influence of sea surface temperature on the European heat wave of 2003 summer. Part I: an observational study 总被引：2，自引：0，他引：2
The heat wave affecting Europe during summer of 2003 is analyzed in detail with observational and reanalysis data. Surface, middle and upper troposphere analysis reveal particular circulation patterns related to an atmospheric blocking condition. In general seasonal anomalies, like this intense heat wave, are strongly related to boundary conditions. Composites and empirical orthogonal functions analysis provide evidence for an organized structure in the sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly field: high SSTs in the Mediterranean basin, the North Sea and further north toward the Arctic Circle were observed mainly in the months of June and August. The outcome of this analysis on observational data shows the SST as one of the possible factors in enhancing the heat wave in the European area. 相似文献
