Summary The homogeneous Magnitude System (HMS), developed by Vank, Kondorskaya and Christoskov, is used to calculate station corrections, magnitudes and a calibrating function for short-period PKP waves in the distance interval of 143° to 148°. The data basis consists of a set of 26 Tuamotu underground explosions and their records at 14 Central European seismic stations. The station magnitudes, calculated in this way show a smaller dispersion than the uncorrected (usual) values.  相似文献

Summary PKP-amplitudes of about 400 earthquakes from the SW Pacific Ocean observed at three stations in Central Europe were used to obtain the calibration function qPKP(D, h) based on the NEIS mb magnitudes. The calibration function allows us to determine the magnitudes for week earthquakes from the Pacific, for which the magnitudes from the P-waves cannot be derived.  相似文献

An algal culture medium was developed which reflects the extreme chemical conditions of acidic mining lakes (pH 2.7, high concentrations of iron and sulfate) and remains stable without addition of organic carbon sources. It enables controlled experiments e.g. on the heterotrophic potential of pigmented flagellates in the laboratory. Various plankton organisms isolated from acidic lakes were successfully cultivated in this medium. The growth rates of a Chlamydomonas isolate from acidic mining lakes were assessed by measuring cell densities under pure autotrophic and heterotrophic conditions (with glucose as organic C‐source) and showed values of 0.74 and 0.40, respectively.  相似文献

Raman microprobe (RMP) spectra of synthetic coesiste and three natural coesites from eclogite — facies rocks are provided and evaluated for characterisation purposes. The main coesite line lies at 521 cm?1 and the other characteristic lines attributed to coesite occur at 117, 177 and 271 cm?1. Two petrologically useful applications were (a) the confirmation of the coesite structure in very small natural crystals deduced to be coesite from petrographic observations only, and (b) the recognition of sub-microscopic crystallites of quartz in incipiently — transformed coesite in all the natural samples.  相似文献

Reservoirs can be viewed as sentinels of their catchments and a detailed monitoring of reservoir systems informs about biogeochemical and hydrological processes at the catchment scale. We developed a comprehensive online monitoring system at Rappbode reservoir, the largest drinking water reservoir in Germany, and its inflows. The Rappbode Reservoir Observatory comprises of a set of online-sensors for the measurement of physical, chemical, and biological variables and is complemented by a biweekly limnological sampling schedule. Measurement stations are deployed at the four major inflows into the system, at the outlets of all pre-reservoirs, as well as in the main reservoir. The newly installed monitoring system serves both scientific monitoring and process studies, as well as reservoir management. Particular emphasis is paid to the monitoring of short-term dynamics and many variables are measured at high temporal resolution. As an example, we quantitatively documented a flood event which mobilised high loads of dissolved organic carbon and changed the characteristics of the receiving reservoir from eutrophic to dystrophic within a few days. This event could have been completely missed by conventional biweekly sampling programs, but is relevant for biogeochemical fluxes at the catchment scale. We also show that the high frequency data provide a deeper insight into ecosystem dynamics and lake metabolism. The Rappbode Reservoir Observatory; moreover, offers a unique study site to apply, validate, and develop state of the art lake models to improve their predictive capabilities.  相似文献

Summary The average dependence of the calibration function q and the travel-time residuals t on the depth and distance of the source has been derived for individual branches of PKP waves using earthquakes from the SW Pacific Ocean (distance interval 147°–159°, depths 0–700 km). The analysis of very distant shocks of all depths according to the regional PKP travel time tables can be completed by the magnitude determination.  相似文献

Lake Bockwitz, a pit lake in a former lignite open-cast mine south of Leipzig (Germany), was neutralised (from pH 2.65 to pH 7.1) by addition of soda ash (14,620 t) from 2004 to 2007. The additions had to be continued due to ongoing inflows of acid ground and surface water. This paper reports on the changes in the plankton community accompanying the neutralisation.At the beginning, the community composition and biomass was comparable to other acidic pit lakes, i.e. the pigmented flagellates Chlamydomonas and Ochromonas dominated the autotrophs, and ciliates and rotifers were the top predators. The biomass was small (maximum 2 mg fresh weight per litre) and decreased until the end of 2008. With increasing pH, the autotrophic community became more diverse, whereby diatoms, chrysophyceans and blue greens contributed significantly to biomass. Although neutral pH conditions were achieved in autumn 2007, picocyanobacteria were not present until the end of 2008. In addition, crustaceans were under-represented in terms of biomass and diversity. Daphnids were not found. We attributed this to short-term changes of the ionic composition of the water and to the limited time available for non-acido-tolerant organisms to colonise the system.  相似文献

On the basis of PKP-readings of the seismological station network of the G.D.R. magnitude calibration functions were derived. Since 1975 one of these calibration functions for distances D > 145° is routinely used for magnitude determination at Collm-Station. Deviations from the mb-values published by the World Date Centres are normally not larger than 0.2 magnitude units.For the distance range from 110° to 165° another calibration function was determined on the basis of USGS-data. Significant regional differences were found for calibration functions for several subduction zones, possibly indicating differences in the elastic properties and structure of the upper mantle in these regions.  相似文献
