The equipment and methodical characteristics of determining the vertical component of the ionospheric plasma motion velocity Vz based on an incoherent scatter radar of Institute of Ionosphere, National Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Kharkiv), which is the only radar of such type in Central Europe, are described. Based on the radar data, the patterns of altitude and diurnal variations in Vz near the maximum of solar cycle 24 for the typical geophysical conditions (around the summer and winter solstices, the spring and fall equinoxes) at low geomagnetic activity and the specifics of these changes during ionospheric storms are presented. The results of modeling of the dynamic processes in ionospheric plasma under the conditions of the undisturbed ionosphere, including the determination of altitudetime variations in the thermospheric wind velocity, are presented. It has been established that this velocity can significantly differ from the thermospheric wind velocity calculated by the known empirical global models. This difference is likely related to the regional features of thermospheric wind that are not shown in the global models.  相似文献

Subsurface video footage can be used as a successful identification tool for various marine organisms; however, processing of such information has proven challenging. This study tests the use of automated software to assist with photo-identification of the great white shark Carcharodon carcharias in the region of Gansbaai, on the south coast of South Africa. A subsurface photo catalogue was created from underwater video footage. Single individuals were identified by using pigmentation patterns. From this catalogue, two images of the head for each individual were inserted into automated contour-recognition software (Interactive Individual Identification System Beta Contour 3.0). One image was used to search the database, the other served as a reference image. Identification was made by means of a contour, assigned using the software to the irregular border of grey and white on the shark's head. In total, 90 different contours were processed. The output provided ranks, where the first match would be a direct identification of the individual. The method proved to be accurate, in particular for high-quality images where 88.24% and 94.12%, respectively, were identified by two independent analysts as first match, and with all individuals identified within the top 10 matches. The inclusion of metadata improved accuracy and precision, allowing identification of even low-quality images.  相似文献

The calculation results of parameters of thermal and dynamical processes in the near-Earth plasma during the partial solar eclipse of August 1, 2008, over Kharkov are presented. The calculations showed that during the eclipse there occurred a decrease in the neutral temperature by approximately 17–40 K within the height range 250–350 km, respectively. At heights of 210–580 km, the eclipse resulted in an increase in the density, total plasma flux, and the flux of particles by tens of percentage points due to ambipolar diffusion. The paper presents the results of a comparative analysis of the effects in the ionospheric plasma during the partial eclipses over Kharkov of August 11, 1999; May 31, 2003; October 3, 2005; March 29, 2006; and August 1, 2008. General regularities in eclipse effects are noted.  相似文献

The observation results of the effects in the geospace plasma during a partially (magnitude ~0.42) solar eclipse are presented. The experimental data were obtained with an incoherent scatter radar of the Institute of the Ionosphere (near Kharkov). During the eclipse, the density at the F2 layer maximum decreased by 32%, the foF2 critical frequency decreased by 17.5%, and the altitude of the F2 layer maximum increased insignificantly. At altitudes of 290–680 km, the electron density decreased by ~25%. During the eclipse, the electron and ion temperature decreased by 70–180 and 0–140 K, respectively, at altitudes of 190–490 km. Near the eclipse main phase, the plasma velocity vertical component decreased by 10–45 m/s at altitudes of 200–470 km, respectively. At the time of the eclipse main phase, the hydrogen ion fractional density increased by 50% as compared to the reference day at altitudes of 450–650 km.  相似文献

In this study of Ukrainian estuaries, sediments and tissues from the Dnieper and Boh estuaries and Danube Delta on the mainland, Sevastopol and Balaklava Bays on the Crimean Peninsula, and coastal Black Sea along the Crimean Peninsula were collected in 2006. Contaminant analyses included several metals, the hydrophobic organic chemicals (HOCs) polychlorinated biphenyls, several chlorinated pesticides, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. When compared to estuarine sediments globally, the Ukrainian sediments were found to be moderately contaminated. However, several metals, especially mercury, were often shown to be elevated in the tissues of the Ukrainian organisms in comparison to organisms from other estuarine locations. Sediment quality guidelines indicate some of the estuarine sediments could be sufficiently contaminated to cause adverse toxicological effects. This investigation represents the first extensive study of HOC and metal baseline concentrations and distributions in Ukrainian estuaries and seeks to characterize exposures to aquatic organisms living in these systems.  相似文献

Incoherent scatter radar observation results of the geospace response to the partial solar eclipse (SE) of January 4, 2011 (magnitude 0.78) above Kharkiv are described. The response to the SE was observed in variations in the electron concentration, electron and ion temperatures, and the vertical component of the plasma motion velocity in a wide altitude range (190–420 km). Parameters of thermal and dynamic processes in the ionosphere are theoretically calculated for the SE. It is shown that the SE resulted in significant changes in the dynamic and thermal conditions in geospace. The results show good agreement with results of an analysis of the geospace plasma responses to SEs occurring above Kharkiv in 1999–2008.  相似文献

The materials presented in this paper were collected in the course of studies of phytoplankton and photosynthetic pigments in the Upper Volga reservoirs within the territory of Yaroslavl province. In 1995–2000, the phytoplankton in these water bodies was found to be represented mainly by diatom, blue-green, green, and in some cases, cryptophyte algae. It was found that in the channel parts of the reservoirs, the population of planktonic algae varied from 25 to 96180 thousand cell/l, their biomass, from 0.009 to 5.54 mg/l, and the chlorophyll content, from 0.4 to 22.4 g/l. The values of saprobity index in terms of phytoplankton were found to characterize waters of all the three reservoirs as -mesosaprobic, and the extent of blue-green algae development in the overwhelming majority of cases was classed as environmentally safe, although their abundance in the coastal zone sometimes is an indication of a substantial deterioration in water quality.  相似文献

The observations of the effects of the partial (about 77%) solar eclipse (SE) of March 29, 2006, in the ionospheric plasma are presented. The experimental data were obtained using the Kharkov incoherent scatter radar. At the moment of the maximum phase of SE, a decrease in the critical frequency of the ionospheric F 2 layer by 18%, a depletion of the density in the F 2 layer maximum by 33%, and an increase in the maximum height z m by 30 km were observed. The solar eclipse caused a decrease in the electron and ion temperatures by 150–300 and 100–200 K, respectively, within the height range 210–490 km. An increase in the relative density of the hydrogen ions during the maximum phase of SE by 20–25% within the height range 900–1200 km is detected. Calculations of the parameters of dynamical processes and thermal regime of the ionospheric plasma during SE are performed.  相似文献

During the Soviet era, Ukraine was an important industrial and agricultural region of the Soviet Union. This industrial and agricultural activity resulted in contamination of Ukraine’s estuaries with legacy anthropogenic pollutants. Investigations on the toxicological effects of this estuarine contamination have been limited. For this research, we measured the toxicity of contaminated sediments from four Ukrainian estuaries to several aquatic organisms over 3 years. Sediment chemical analyses and whole sediment toxicity identification evaluations (TIEs) were also performed to determine the classes of contaminants contributing to toxicity. Toxic sediments were observed in several of the Ukrainian estuaries and chemical analyses of the sediments demonstrated anthropogenic contaminants were widely distributed. Contaminants were also detected in macrobenthic organisms collected from the sediments. Several lines of evidence, including TIEs, indicated hydrophobic organic chemicals (HOCs) were contributing substantially to observed toxicity. This information can guide environmental managers to prioritize portions of the estuaries requiring remediation.  相似文献
