We have developed a least-squares minimization approach to depth determination of a buried ore deposit from numerical horizontal gradients obtained from self-potential (SP) data using filters of successive window lengths (graticule spacings). The problem of depth determination from SP gradients has been transformed into the problem of finding a solution to a nonlinear equation of the form f(z)=0. Formulas have been derived for vertical and horizontal cylinders and spheres. Procedures are also formulated to estimate the electrical dipole moment and the polarization angle. The method is applied to synthetic data with and without random noise. Finally, the validity of the method is tested on two field examples. In both cases, the depth obtained is found to be in a very good agreement with that obtained from drilling information.  相似文献

Despite the popularity of using the Haar wavelet filter in many applications, it sometimes introduces fake patterns into the multi resolution analysis (MRA) of seismic data. In this work, we compared different wavelet filters to demonstrate that these patterns are fake and not part of the original waveforms and to show that they are a result of using the Haar wavelet filter as a short-width wavelet. To achieve this, many seismic waveforms from two different sources: the Egyptian National Seismic Network (ENSN) and the High Sensitivity Seismograph Network Japan (Hi-net) are used with different wavelet filters. We propose an algorithm based on an autoregressive (AR) model to detect these patterns automatically and fully.  相似文献

In the present study, the existence of cavities, voids, and fractures was verified at the site of the El-Elb Dam, which is located to the northwest of Riyadh City across Wadi Hanifa, using 2D electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) techniques. For this purpose, four ERT profiles were measured on the downstream side of the El-Elb Dam using the Syscal Pro Switch-72 resistivity meter. In addition, a GPR survey using a 400-MHz antenna and a SIR-3000 instrument was conducted along five profiles above the stilling basins on the downstream side of the dam and one radar profile was measured outside the stilling basins area across the course of the wadi. The resultant geophysical data were interpreted with the aid of information from a field-based structural and stratigraphic evaluation of the outcropped bedrock on the banks of the wadi course. The analysis of the inverted ERT and filtered radar sections revealed several resistivity and electromagnetic reflection anomalies that are identified laterally and vertically across the measured sections. These anomalies indicate the presence of fractures and karst features affected the limestone bedrock in the dam site. These near-surface karstified and fractured strata represent a critical hazard to the structural safety of the dam.  相似文献

A detailed gravity survey was carried out in one of the seismo-active areas at the northwestern region of the High Dam Lake (Kalabsha area) to study its subsurface structure. In order to understand the seismicity of the area, the establishment of a geodynamic model from geological and geodetic data is of great importance. After a series of adjustments and corrections of the measured gravity data, free-air and Bouguer anomaly maps were constructed for the Kalabsha area, and several interpretation techniques were applied to analyse these anomalies. The results of the analysis indicate that the Kalabsha area is affected by several faults trending mainly E-W and N-S. The active area located west of Gebel Marawa is bounded by a set of faults striking NE-SW, N-S and E-W. The throws of these faults range from 160 to 370 m.The minimum depth to the basement complex is about 200 m and its maximum depth is around 600 m. The thickness of the sedimentary column (Nubia sandstone) in the Kalabsha area decreases due west and increases toward the southern and eastern parts of the area. The results explain the tectonic framework of the area well.  相似文献

We have developed a least-squares method to determine simultaneously the depth and the width of a buried thick dipping dike from residualized magnetic data using filters of successive window lengths. The method involves using a relationship between the depth and the half-width of the source and a combination of windowed observations. The relationship represents a family of curves (window curves). For a fixed window length, the depth is determined for each half-width value by solving one nonlinear equation of the form f (z) = 0 using the least-squares method. The computed depths are plotted against the width values representing a continuous curve. The solution for the depth and the width of the buried dike is read at the common intersection of the window curves. The method involves using a dike model convolved with the same moving average filter as applied to the observed data. As a result, this method can be applied to residuals as well as to measured magnetic data. Procedures are also formulated to estimate the amplitude coefficient and the index parameter. The method is applied to theoretical data with and without random errors. The validity of the method is tested on airborne magnetic data from Canada and on a vertical component magnetic anomaly from Turkey. In all cases examined, the model parameters obtained are in good agreement with the actual ones and with those given in the published literature.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the volcano-sedimentary sequence of Kurmut terrane in southeast Bayuda Desert and its continuation east of the Nile. The sequence is situated at the inferred transition between the Neoproterozoic juvenile Arabian–Nubian Shield and the old reworked Saharan Metacraton. Lithologically, the rocks are composed of intermediate to basic metavolcanics and volcanoclastics intercalated with tuffeous material and metapelite sediments that formed in cyclic graded bedding, indicating a turbid environment in the active orogenic zone. For the first time in the study area, intraformational conglomerates with cigar-shaped volcanic clasts within the low-grade metasediments suggest a high-energy depositional environment. Minerals and textural examination of rock assemblage indicate an anticlockwise P/T condition from amphibolite facies to retrograde greenschist facies conditions in a large high strain zone of distributed deformation. Geochemical results of metavolcanics indicate derivation from different mantle sources (island arc tholeite, calc-alkaline basalt, mid-oceanic ridge, and back-arc basalt). Within this sequence, field relation and microstructural analysis clearly show the best evidence of superimposition of sinistral shear of the NNE–SSW-trending Keraf Shear Zone on the early dextral NE–SW Nakasib Suture Zone. Consequently, based on lithological and structural observations with support of available geochemical data, the volcano-sedimentary sequences SE of Bayuda Desert and east of Nile are similar to their equivalent assemblage of juvenile Neoproterozoic arc lavas association of the Arabian–Nubian Shield.  相似文献

—The residual anomaly expression due to two simple geologic structures can be represented by the sum of fields produced by two known source bodies whose depths are to be determined. For a few fixed characteristic points and distances along the residual anomaly profile, the depth to the upper structure is determined iteratively using a simple formula for each depth of the lower structure. The computed depths to the lower structure are plotted against the depths to the upper structure representing a depth curve. The solution for the depths to both structures is read at the common intersection of the depth curves. Procedures are also formulated to estimate the radii of the two buried structures. The method is a powerful technique for separating the composite residual anomaly into two residual components due to two structures. The method is applied to theoretical data with and without random errors and tested on a field example from U.S.A.  相似文献

Nine seismic refraction profiles were conducted and processed to study the near-surface sediments in the new urban area of Diriyah. The 2D geoseismic models illustrate two layers: a surface layer of soft sediments and weathered to hard limestone bedrock. Moreover, microtremor measurements were performed at 38 sites for 40 min using three-component seismographs and processed to assess the peak spectral amplitude and the corresponding fundamental resonance frequency. The seismic vulnerability index at each measurement site was estimated. These results correlate well with the geotechnical borehole data. The north-western zone is highly vulnerable due to the great thickness of the soft sediments.  相似文献
