Blasting operations usually produce significant environmental problems which may cause severe damage to the nearby areas. Air-overpressure (AOp) is one of the most important environmental impacts of blasting operations which needs to be predicted and subsequently controlled to minimize the potential risk of damage. In order to solve AOp problem in Hulu Langat granite quarry site, Malaysia, three non-linear methods namely empirical, artificial neural network (ANN) and a hybrid model of genetic algorithm (GA)–ANN were developed in this study. To do this, 76 blasting operations were investigated and relevant blasting parameters were measured in the site. The most influential parameters on AOp namely maximum charge per delay and the distance from the blast-face were considered as model inputs or predictors. Using the five randomly selected datasets and considering the modeling procedure of each method, 15 models were constructed for all predictive techniques. Several performance indices including coefficient of determination (R 2), root mean square error and variance account for were utilized to check the performance capacity of the predictive methods. Considering these performance indices and using simple ranking method, the best models for AOp prediction were selected. It was found that the GA–ANN technique can provide higher performance capacity in predicting AOp compared to other predictive methods. This is due to the fact that the GA–ANN model can optimize the weights and biases of the network connection for training by ANN. The tectonic and thermal history of Cenozoic rocks from four wells (Asri-1, NE Ria-1, Hariet-1 and Yani-2) in the Sunda–Asri basin has been reconstructed using apatite fission track (AFT) analysis combined with modelling of previously determined vitrinite reflectance (VR) measurements. The wells all penetrate Recent to middle Eocene successions, in which only the Eocene to Oligocene successions have been subjected to temperatures suitable for partial annealing, due to rapid late Miocene to Recent burial. With respect to organic thermal maturities, the zone of minimum annealing coincides with undermature heating and records provenance AFT ages, whilst the zone of partial annealing agrees well with mature heating suitable for generation of hydrocarbons. The integrated AFT and VR data suggest that the Sunda–Asri basin continues subsiding, probably due to extension initiated in the late Eocene, and the successions near the base of the wells were recently exposed to the high present-day temperatures. The recent heating of rocks is consistent with up to 800 m of Plio–Pleistocene burial. Both the AFT and VR results indicate that geothermal gradients remained relatively constant through the Cenozoic.  相似文献

Segara Anakan, a mangrove-fringed coastal lagoon in Indonesia, has a high diversity of macrobenthic invertebrates and is increasingly affected by human activities. We found >50 organic contaminants in water, sediment and macrobenthic invertebrates from the lagoon most of which were polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs). Composition of PACs pointed to petrogenic contamination in the eastern lagoon. PACs mainly consisted of alkylated PAHs, which are more abundant in crude oil than parent PAHs. Highest total PAC concentration in sediment was above reported toxicity thresholds for aquatic invertebrates. Other identified compounds derived from municipal sewage and also included novel contaminants like triphenylphosphine oxide. Numbers of stored contaminants varied between species which is probably related to differences in microhabitat and feeding mode. Most contaminants were detected in Telescopium telescopium and Polymesoda erosa. Our findings suggest that more attention should be paid to the risk potential of alkylated PAHs, which has hardly been addressed previously.  相似文献

Blasting is sometimes inevitable in civil engineering work, to fragment the massive rock to enable excavation and leveling. In Minyak Beku, Batu Pahat also, blasting is implemented to fragment the rock mass, to reduce the in situ rock level to the required platform for a building construction. However, during blasting work, some rocks get an excessive amount of explosive energy and this energy may generate flyrock. An accident occurred on 15 July 2015 due to this phenomenon, in which one of the workers was killed and two other workers were seriously injured after being hit by the flyrock. The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes of the flyrock accidents through evaluation of rock mass geological structures. The discontinuities present on the rock face were analyzed, to study how they affected the projection and direction of the flyrock. Rock faces with lower mean joint spacing and larger apertures caused excessive flyrock. Based on the steoreonet analysis, it was found that slope failures also produced a significant effect on the direction, if the rock face failure lay in the critical zone area. Empirical models are often used to predict flyrock projection. In this study five empirical models are used to compare the incidents. It was found that none of the existing formulas could accurately predict flyrock distance. Analysis shows that the gap between predicted and actual flyrock can be reduced by including blast deign and geological conditions in forecasts. Analysis revealed only 69% of accuracy could be achieved if blast design is the only parameter to be considered in flyrock projection and the rest is influenced by the geological condition. Other causes of flyrock are discussed. Comparison of flyrock prediction with face bursting, cratering and rifling is carried out with recent prediction models.  相似文献

In the Northern Adriatic Sea, the occurrence of gas seepage and of unique rock outcrops has been widely documented. The genesis of these deposits has recently been ascribed to gas venting, leading to their classification as methane‐derived carbonates. However, the origin of seeping gas was not clearly constrained. Geophysical data collected in 2009 reveal that the gas‐enriched fluid vents are deeply rooted. In fact, the entire Plio‐Quaternary succession is characterized by widespread seismic anomalies represented by wipe‐out zones, and interpreted as gas chimneys. They commonly root at the base of the Pliocene sequence but also within the Palaeogene succession, where they appear to be associated to deep‐seated faults. We suggest that there is a structural control on chimney distribution. Chimneys originate and terminate at different stratigraphic levels; commonly they reach the seafloor, where authigenic carbonate deposits form locally. Gas analyses of some gas bubble streams just above the rock outcrops reveal that gas is composed mainly of methane. Geochemical analyses performed at four selected outcrop sites show that these deposits formed as a consequence of active gas venting. In particular, geochemical analyses indicate carbonate precipitation from microbial oxidation of methane‐rich fluids, although a straightforward correlation with the source depth of gas feeding the authigenic carbonates cannot yet be clearly defined.  相似文献

Major and trace element, and Sr-Nd isotope compositions were determined for Quaternary volcanic rocks from NE Sulawesi (the Sangihe are), Indonesia, in order to examine the origin of across-arc variation in lava and magma source chemistry. The arc is formed in an intraoceanic tectonic setting and is not associated with a backarc basin, thereby minimizing possible contributions from non-arc geochemical reservoirs. The geochemistry of these arc lavas is likely to provide essential information about the chemical characteristics of subduction components. All incompatible elements, except Pb, increase away from the volcancic front. Major element data for Mg-rich lavas together with available experimental data, suggest that primary magmas are produced at higher pressured by smaller degrees of partial melting beneath the backarc-side volcanoes. Rb/K and Ba/Pb are higher, and 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd are lower in backarc-side lavas. These variations may be attributed to generation of hydrous fluids in the downdragged hydrous peridotite layer at the base of the mantle wedge through the following reactions: decompositions of pargasitic amphibole to form phlogopite and breakdown of phlogopite to crystallize K-richterite, beneath the volcanic front and the backarc-side volcanoes, respectively.  相似文献
