A statistical analysis of period distribution for eclipsing and spectroscopic binary systems, based on the spectral types of the components, shows several common features between the two independent samples. The similarity is increased if we eliminate the geometrical selection effect on the eclipsing binaries sample by means of the method described in previous papers. The period distribution becomes broader (and probably non-unimodal) for advanced spectral types.We also performed an analysis of the mean separation of systems as a function of the spectral type.  相似文献

The results of radial velocity measures of the star o And from high dispersion plates relative to the years 1964, 1966, 1975 and 1976 are given. The averaged values of the 1964 and 1966 plates confirm the existence of the minimum in the trend of the radial velocities and fit well the curve obtained in the hypothesis of periodic long-term radial velocity variations with the period of 23.5 years (Fracassiniet al., 1977). Preliminary orbital elements in the hypothesis of a long period spectroscopic binary system have been tentatively drawn.  相似文献

The Adriatic basin-wide circulation and its temporal variability are reviewed on the basis of results from the analysis of hydrographic data collected during four POEM cruises. Major well known features in the circulation are revealed in the data set which covers the period from October 1985 to April 1987. A prominent signal associated with the seasonal variability is identified in the water outflowing along the Italian coast. Differences between autumn and spring in the vein of cold and fresh water flowing along the Italian shelf manifest mainly in the temperature field. During the stratified season the fresh water spreads over the entire surface layer of the southern Adriatic. On the other hand, during spring, when the sea is vertically homogeneous, the fresh water remains confined to the surface longshore boundary layer over the entire length of the Italian coast. Layers below the seasonal thermocline at the eastern portion of the sea display very weak seasonal signals. A strong signal associated with the inter-annual variations also has been documented from the analysed data set; it mainly appears in the salinity field. It is shown that in spring 1986, the salinity averaged over the entire water column north of the Palagruza Sill is lower by 0.3 psu than in spring 1987. A similar, but less prominent difference is noted in the southern Adriatic. An attempt is made to associate these differences with variations in climatic conditions over the area, the river runoff and the Mediterranean water inflow.  相似文献

The loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta, is a highly migratory species with a complex life cycle that involves a series of ontogenetic habitat shifts and migrations. Understanding the links amongst nesting populations and foraging habitats is essential for the effective management of the species. Here we used mixed stock analysis to examine the natal origin of loggerhead turtles foraging on the North African continental shelf off Tunisia, one of the most important Mediterranean neritic habitats. An 815‐bp fragment of the mitochondrial DNA control region was sequenced from 107 individuals sampled from 2007 to 2009. No temporal variation in haplotype frequencies was detected. Juveniles (n = 87) and adults (n = 23) exhibited weak but significant genetic differentiation that resulted in different stock compositions. Libya was the main source population but the proportion of turtles from this rookery was higher in adults (median = 80%) than in juveniles (median = 35%). Western Greece was the second most important contributing population. Juvenile stock composition derived from mixed stock analysis and the estimates produced by numerical simulation of hatchling dispersion in the Mediterranean Sea were significantly correlated, supporting the recent theory that loggerheads imprint on possible future neritic habitats during the initial phase of their life. This association was not significant for adults, suggesting that other factors contribute to shaping their distribution. Overall, our results show that human activities on the South Tunisian continental shelf pose an immediate threat to the survival of the Libyan rookery.  相似文献

The development of large-scale bedrock quarry operations often requires high-volume and long-term groundwater extraction to maintain a sustainable working environment. These dewatering activities often influence groundwater levels and flow patterns regionally. In the present study, the influence of the dewatering of the travertine quarry operations near the city of Tivoli, Italy, are quantitatively investigated through an integrated analysis of field data and numerical modeling. Lowering of regional groundwater levels in the vicinity of the quarry has led to destructive land subsidence and alterations to the flow system sustaining a hot-spring area. The study employs a finite element numerical model (FEFLOW) to evaluate and quantify the impact of the extensive dewatering on fault-controlled regional groundwater flow in the Acque Albule basin. By incorporating the physical field data and historical hydrologic information, the numerical model was calibrated against three groundwater scenarios, reproducing the effects of different exploitation activities, coupled with natural changes over the course of the quarry operation. The results indicate that groundwater withdrawals by the mining industry and by “Terme di Roma” spa resulted in the cessation of flow from the primary thermal spring and a drop in the phreatic level in the area consequently affected by land subsidence.  相似文献

All the radial velocities (RV) available in the literature since the beginning of the century for the Be stars EW Lac, 28 Tau, Tau, KX And, KY And, CX Dra and 88 Her, are assembled. When possible, a periodogram analysis has been performed to search for eventual periodic phenomena.The following conclusions have been drawn: EW Lac could be a spectroscopic binary with a period of about 40 years; 28 Tau shows some indications of regular long-term RV variations on the time scale of decades; a probable recurrent shell activity of Tau could be hypothesized. Some useful indications for KX and KY And are given, whereas it is not possible to draw any conclusion for CX Dra and 88 Her owing to the lack of data.  相似文献
