The Remote Sensing Core Curriculum (RSCC) was initiated in 1993 to meet the demands for a college-level set of resources to enhance the quality of education across national and international campuses. The American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing adopted the RSCC in 1996 to sustain support of this educational initiative for its membership and collegiate community. A series of volumes, containing lectures, exercises, and data, is being created by expert contributors to address the different technical fields of remote sensing. The RSCC program is designed to operate on the Internet taking full advantage of the World Wide Web (WWW) technology for distance learning. The issues of curriculum development related to the educational setting, with demands on faculty, students, and facilities, is considered to understand the new paradigms for WW-influenced computer-aided learning. The WWW is shown to be especially appropriate for facilitating remote sensing education with requirements for addressing image data sets and multimedia learning tools. Water samples were collected from 18 natural springs within the West Fork of the Obey River watershed. Overton County, Tennessee, to determine if groundwater was adversely affected by runoff from abandoned surface coal mines Six springs were found to be affected severely and deemed unfit as a source of potable water Water quality of the remaining springs was essentially unaffected it appeared that proximity to surface mines, elevation at the outflow, and geology of the surrounding strata determined the quality of the groundwater The unit is jointly supported by Tennessee Technological University, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, and the US. Remote sensing is a geographic analysis tool capable of producing large quantities of data in the spectral, temporal and spatial domains. Techniques for automating the image analysis process would be advanced by the inclusion of artificial intelligence techniques in the design of image processing systems. The remote sensing application which show promise for successful implementation of artificial intelligence techniques are intelligent onboard processing, advanced database interrogation, and the automated analysis of multispectral imagery.  相似文献

The disturbing function of the Moon (Sun) is expanded as a sum of products of two harmonic functions, one depending on the position of the satellite and the other on the position of the Moon (Sun). The harmonic functions depending on the position of the perturbing body are developed into trigonometric series with the ecliptic elementsl, l′, F, D and Γ of the lunar theory which are nearly linear with respect to time. Perturbation of elements are in the form of trigonometric series with the ecliptic lunar elements and the equatorial elements ω and Ω of the satellite so that analytic integration is simple and the results accurate over a long period of time.  相似文献

This paper describes a framework for an image processing procedure for operational agricultural crop area estimation. This operational framework has been conceived within the development of an Advanced Agricultural Information System (AAIS) for the “Regione del Veneto “ (RdV ‐ Veneto Region) in northeastern Italy. The objective of this program is to develop the ability to generating timely and accurate area estimates and production information for four major agricultural crops: soybeans, sugar beets, corn, and small grains. AAIS uses state of the art methods in remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) technology and integrates a variety of data types including satellite imagery. This paper describes the methodology developed for image and ancillary data processing for the production of crop area statistics. Using a combination of standard unsupervised classification and GIS operations that incorporate knowledge about the agricultural system, a “sequential masking” classification procedure was derived. This sequential masking procedure yielded crop classification accuracies that at the study site level range between 76% and 99% depending on the crop under study. We believe that classification accuracies will improve with full system implementation, along with the incorporation of new and/or improved thematic information and operational experience using AAIS‐based estimation.  相似文献

The general perturbations in the elliptic and vectorial elements of a satellite as caused by the tidal deformations of the non-spherical Earth are developed into trigonometric series in the standard ecliptical arguments of Hill-Brown lunar theory and in the equatorinal elements ω and Ω of the satellite. The integration of the differential equations for variation of elements of the satellite in this theory is easy because all arguments are linear or nearly linear in time. The trigonometrical expansion permits a judgment about the relative significance of the amplitudes and periods of different tidal ‘waves’ over a long period of time. Graphs are presented of the tidal perturbations in the elliptic elements of the BE-C satellite which illustrate long term periodic behavior. The tidal effects are clearly noticeable in the observations and their comparison with the theory permits improvement of the ‘global’ Love numbers for the Earth.  相似文献

A newly discovered fossil locality at Lano (Basque Country) has yielded a vertebrate assemblage of probably Maastrichtian age comprising fishes, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. It considerably enlarges our knowledge of the Late Cretaceous continental faunas of Europe, hitherto based on a much less complete record. Some taxa are recorded for the first time in Europe, and the fauna also contains the oldest known representatives of some groups (amphisbaenians, salamandrids). The Lan assemblage reveals an original fauna comprising both forms related to Asian and North American groups and elements with Gondwanan affinities.  相似文献

Manganese oxides, typically similar to δ-MnO2, form in the aquatic environment at near neutral pH via bacterially promoted oxidation of Mn(II) species by O2, as the reaction of [Mn(H2O)6]2+ with O2 alone is not thermodynamically favorable below pH of ~?9. As manganese oxide species are reduced by the triphenylmethane compound leucoberbelein blue (LBB) to form the colored oxidized form of LBB (λmax?=?623 nm), their concentration in the aquatic environment can be determined in aqueous environmental samples (e.g., across the oxic–anoxic interface of the Chesapeake Bay, the hemipelagic St. Lawrence Estuary and the Broadkill River estuary surrounded by salt marsh wetlands), and their reaction progress can be followed in kinetic studies. The LBB reaction with oxidized Mn solids can occur via a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) reaction, which is a one-electron transfer process, but is unfavorable with oxidized Fe solids. HAT thermodynamics are also favorable for nitrite with LBB and MnO2 with ammonia (NH3). Reactions are unfavorable for NH4+ and sulfide with oxidized Fe and Mn solids, and NH3 with oxidized Fe solids. In laboratory studies and aquatic environments, the reduction of manganese oxides leads to the formation of Mn(III)-ligand complexes [Mn(III)L] at significant concentrations even when two-electron reductants react with MnO2. Key reductants are hydrogen sulfide, Fe(II) and organic ligands, including the siderophore desferioxamine-B. We present laboratory data on the reaction of colloidal MnO2 solutions (λmax?~?370 nm) with these reductants. In marine waters, colloidal forms of Mn oxides (<?0.2 µm) have not been detected as Mn oxides are quantitatively trapped on 0.2-µm filters. Thus, the reactivity of Mn oxides with reductants depends on surface reactions and possible surface defects. In the case of MnO2, Mn(IV) is an inert cation in octahedral coordination; thus, an inner-sphere process is likely for electrons to go into the empty e g * conduction band of its orbitals. Using frontier molecular orbital theory and band theory, we discuss aspects of these surface reactions and possible surface defects that may promote MnO2 reduction using laboratory and field data for the reaction of MnO2 with hydrogen sulfide and other reductants.  相似文献
