Effluent sludge from an anaerobic digester was used as a source of nitrogen, phosphate, sulfur, and other nutrients in the culture medium of ethanol production by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Several pretreatments (mechanical, chemical, thermal, and thermo-chemical) were performed on the anaerobic digested sludge (ADS) to make the nutrients accessible to the yeast cells. Preliminary experiments revealed that S. cerevisiae is not able to assimilate the carbon content of the ADS. However, when glucose was added to the medium, ethanol production was observed. The yield of ethanol using untreated ADS was only 10 % of the theoretical yield, but alkaline pretreatment improved it up to 43 %. By separating the hydrolysate of alkaline-treated ADS from the suspended solids, the ethanol yield from the supernatant was further improved up to 65 % of theoretical yield. Alkaline-treated ADS exhibited competitive performance with the mixture of yeast extract and mineral salts in ethanol fermentation.  相似文献

In this study, with investigation of validity limits of analytical equations in computing groundwater seepage discharge into tunnels in different values of r/h (tunnel radius/water table height above tunnel), using optimization by regression analysis, we have tried to converge the results of analytical equations for any value of r/h. There are various experimental, analytical and numerical methods by which it is possible to calculate the amount of groundwater seepage into tunnels. Due to their simplicity and practical base theory, analytical methods have been applied more frequently. Studies imply that amount of real seepage into tunnel is significantly less than what is anticipated from analytical equations; on the other hand, the results of seepage calculations using these equations are depended on tunnel geometry and medium conditions. Previous investigations confirmed that in a tunnel for which, r/h is more than 0.4; these results are highly different both from one another and from the real seepage inflow. In this paper, optimization has been successfully performed on analytical equations so that the results of these methods are converged to each other for any value of r/h.  相似文献

This sixty-day study was performed to determine the effects of short-term starvation and refeeding cycles on growth, feeding performances and body composition of rainbow trout(O ncorhynchus mykiss). Three hundred trout fingerlings with an average initial weight of 17.5±0.06 g were randomly distributed in 15 circular fiberglass tanks. The fish were exposed to 5 different feeding regimes; control: continuously fed twice daily to apparent satiation; T1 : starved for 1 day and re-fed for 2 days; T2 : starved for 1 day and re-fed for 4 days; T3 : starved for 3 days and re-fed for 12 days; T 4 : starved for 4 days and re-fed for 16 days. At the end of the experiment, growth performance, feed utilization, whole body ash and moisture contents were not significantly(P 0.05) different among the treatments. However, whole body protein content in T3 was significantly higher than other treatments(P 0.05). A significant difference in whole body fat content was observed between T3 and the control group at the end of the experiment(P 0.05). In conclusion this experiment suggests that feeding schedules involving starvation(1–4 days) and re-feeding cycles are a promising feed management tool for rainbow trout culture.  相似文献

Seepage analysis of the upper reservoir of the Kurdistan Azad pumped storage dam with a volume of 3.8E+5 m3 is a key step for selection of the optimized sealing method. More than 60% of the Lugeon test results show very permeable behavior for the pit and abutments of the reservoir. In this study, regarding the permeability value of the reservoir abutments and pit obtained by means of Lugeon tests, seepage rate was computed using various analytical and numerical methods. Reservoir total seepage discharge was computed in steady-state regime by means of analytical and numerical methods (SEEP/W finite element software) as 1.14E+05 and 1.15E+05 m3/day, respectively. Distinct element method (UDEC software) showed variable behavior for the seepage flow. In the reservoir initial impounding stages, the amount of seepage was very high (1.70E+06 m3/day). Then, the seepage rate decreased gradually and reached to a constant value (1.12E+05 m3/day). For the reservoir 3D modeling, Seep3D commercial software was used and has shown water seepage discharge of about 1.18E+05 m3/day, means 3% of total reservoir volume. Based on the above-mentioned results and regarding behavior of seepage in the initial impounding stages, sealing element is necessary to prevent from seepage phenomenon. Clay blanket, concrete lining, asphaltic concrete, and geosynthetic are the proposed methods in a large water reservoir. After a feasibility study on various sealing methods, geomembrane was suggested as the best sealing method with the reasonable implementation cost.  相似文献
