Calcite precipitation in spring 1988 in Lake Constance was studied by measuring physical, chemical and biological parameters in daily intervals. Algae triggering calcite precipitation in spring after an induction period of 1 day wereStephanodiscus hantzschii andChlorella spp. whereas no time lag concerning maximum saturation index was observed. Number and size distribution of crystals were determined by microscopical methods. Simple equations were given for estimation of the precipitated mass of calcite by approximating the volume of calcite crystals by simple geometric bodies and multiplying by crystal numbers. Particulate calcium was analysed after dissolving suspended matter and amounted to 90% of inorganic dry weight. Crystals were observed for the first time after dissolved phosphorus was no more detectable.  相似文献

Calcite precipitation is a phenomenon occuring in most hardwater lakes world-wide. On May 5th, 1990, a whiting in Lake Constance was observed by LANDSAT for the first time. Physical, chemical and biological ground data sets prove that the observed structures are caused by calcite precipitation. This satellite observation provides information about the patchiness of calcite crystals suspended in the surface water of the lake western basin.  相似文献

Total coliforms are used as indicators for evaluating microbial water quality in distribution networks. However, total coliform provides only a weak “evidence” of possible fecal contamination because pathogens are subset of total coliform and therefore their presence in drinking water is not necessarily associated with fecal contamination. Heterotrophic plate counts are also commonly used to evaluate microbial water quality in the distribution networks, but they cover even a wider range of organisms. As a result, both of these indicators can provide incomplete and highly uncertain bodies of evidence when used individually. In this paper, it is shown that combing these two sources of information by an appropriate data fusion technique can provide improved insight into microbial water quality within distribution networks. Approximate reasoning methods like fuzzy logic and probabilistic reasoning are commonly used for data fusion where knowledge is uncertain (i.e., ambiguous, incomplete, and/or vague). Traditional probabilistic frameworks like Bayesian analysis, reasons through conditioning based on prior probabilities (which are hardly ever available). The Dempster–Shafer (DS) theory generalizes the Bayesian analysis without requiring prior probabilities. The DS theory can efficiently deal with the difficulties related to the interpretation of overall water quality where the redundancy of information is routinely observed and the credibility of available data continuously changes. In this paper, the DS rule of combination and its modifications including Yager’s modified rule, Dubois–Prade disjunctive rule and Dezert–Smarandache rule are described using an example of microbial water quality in a distribution network.  相似文献

Despite decreasing nutrient loading of Lake Constance over the past few years, annual sedimentation rates of dry matter remained nearly constant at a level of about 1000 gm–2y–1. The phosphorus content in settling material varied between 0.13 and 0.22% of dry weight. Phosphorus was transported to the lake bottom mainly by POM and by coprecipitation with authigenically formed calcite (estimated from results of laboratory studies). Adsorption to sinking particles of allochthonous origin was of minor importance. The effect of a self-cleaning mechanism is discussed with regard to continuously declining contents of dissolved phosphorus in Lake Constance since 1981, due to external sanitation measures in the drainage area.  相似文献

Conclusion Within the first 3 years the Bhaktapur Development Project has proved to work efficiently in spite of the difficulties and constraints being involved in the initial phase of such a complex undertaking. Most of goals were achieved or nearly completed in the different fields of construction. The results of the work of the project's planning team are a valuable guideline for the execution of future activities in Bhaktapur as well as for the development of the town. within the next ten years. Many important and valuable side-effects are worth mentioning. Quite a number of staff members, from the youngest draughts-girl to senior members, have acquired a lot of specific qualifications. The information work carried out by the Project Information Office under the guidance of a local information officer was a great success to make the people of Bhaktapur aquainted with the intentions, goals and benefits of the project. This work includes enlightment campaigns and slide shows being performed in different parts of the town as well as in many schools of Bhaktapur. Many visitors came to see the progress of the Project, among them H. M. KingBirendra and members of His Majesty's Government of Nepal and of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany as well as from many other projects.  相似文献
