The critical comments to the publications by the authors ofthe present paper that were given in [10] (the publications deal with the possible effects of gravity field inhomogeneities in the atmosphere and ocean) are discussed. In the authors' opinion, some remarks are groundless. At the same time, the authors agree with one of the important remarks that the results of their paper concerning studies of the ocean disturbances are to be reconsidered.  相似文献

We have obtained regression relationships between vertical components of gravity anomalies in tropical cyclone areas and some cyclonic characteristics. These regressions are more pronounced in territories where negative gravity anomalies are prevalent. Numerical experiments are performed for the cyclonic zone of the northwestern Pacific and western Atlantic. In the zone of the western Atlantic, the main focus is on cyclones entering to the terrestrial part of the United States. We conclude that under some conditions, gravity anomalies can affect the characteristics of tropical cyclones.  相似文献

The influence of the Earth’s gravitational field on the simulation of the time of the beginning of monsoon circulation in Asia by the model is analyzed. The results of numerical experiments carried out with the circulation model of the Hydrometcenter of Russia during ten years (1979–1988) following the AMIP protocol are considered. Two standards were used during the analysis of results. The data of NCEP/NCAR (the United States) reanalysis were used for the comparison of circulation characteristics and the data of GPCP (Global Precipitation Climatology Project), for the precipitation analysis. Four different criteria of the monsoon beginning are analyzed: the occurrence of the negative divergence in the area under study, the beginning of heavy precipitation fall, the marked kinetic energy increase in the lower troposphere, and the origination of anticyclonic vorticity. The comparison of the data obtained during the numerical experiments with the chosen standards demonstrated that, in all cases, taking account of gravitation field variations results in the improvement of the simulation of the time of monsoon circulation beginning by the model.  相似文献

A theoretical problem of linear stationary disturbances of the background geostrophic flow of a stratified rotating medium (atmosphere) that are induced by inhomogeneities of the gravitational field is considered. There is a common belief that such inhomogeneities may only somewhat deform (distort) the state of hydrostatic equilibrium, but cannot affect the dynamics of the flow in the atmosphere. Generally, the problem statement is different for the processes over a solid surface and a water surface, because a water surface (the lower boundary condition for the atmosphere) is deformed by inhomogeneities of the gravitational field. The problem of disturbances over a water surface has been considered in recent papers of the authors; in this paper, the results are developed and significantly revised. The emphasis is on disturbances over a flat horizontal surface, which were not examined before. From the analytical solutions, it follows that the influence of inhomogeneities of the gravitational field on the atmospheric flows may be significant in some cases. Physical generation mechanisms of disturbances are analyzed.  相似文献
