The origin of the oil in Barremian–Hauterivian and Albian age source rock samples from two oil wells (SPO-2 and SPO-3) in the South Pars oil field has been investigated by analyzing the quantity of total organic carbon (TOC) and thermal maturity of organic matter (OM). The source rocks were found in the interval 1,000–1,044 m for the Kazhdumi Formation (Albian) and 1,157–1,230 m for the Gadvan Formation (Barremian–Hauterivian). Elemental analysis was carried out on 36 samples from the source rock candidates (Gadvan and Kazhdumi formations) of the Cretaceous succession of the South Pars Oil Layer (SPOL). This analysis indicated that the OM of the Barremian–Hauterivian and Albian samples in the SPOL was composed of kerogen Types II and II–III, respectively. The average TOC of analyzed samples is less than 1 wt%, suggesting that the Cretaceous source rocks are poor hydrocarbon (HC) producers. Thermal maturity and Ro values revealed that more than 90 % of oil samples are immature. The source of the analyzed samples taken from Gadvan and Kazhdumi formations most likely contained a content high in mixed plant and marine algal OM deposited under oxic to suboxic bottom water conditions. The Pristane/nC17 versus Phytane/nC18 diagram showed Type II–III kerogen of mixture environments for source rock samples from the SPOL. Burial history modeling indicates that at the end of the Cretaceous time, pre-Permian sediments remained immature in the Qatar Arch. Therefore, lateral migration of HC from the nearby Cretaceous source rock kitchens toward the north and south of the Qatar Arch is the most probable origin for the significant oils in the SPOL.  相似文献

Freshwater lenses are vital to small island communities but are susceptible to seawater intrusion due to the physical changes in the shoreline land cover. The effect of seawater intrusion and irrigation water on a coastal unconfined aquifer beneath naturally preserved mangrove and deforested mangrove-barren belt was investigated in Carey Island. Analysis of the total dissolved solids (TDS) and earth resistivity (ER) using a geochemistry-electrical integrated technique gave a TDS–ER relationship capable of predicting freshwater lens morphology affected by sea-irrigation water. The study result shows freshwater was fourfold thicker in close proximity of the mangrove forest than the mangrove barren area; the further the shoreline from the mangrove thickest section, the less vulnerable was the seawater intrusion and the more fresh the irrigation water, and hence the greater the freshwater availability potential.  相似文献

Core samples are still today considered as the standard measurement against all other measurements which must be compared. Core analysis usually focuses on the worse portion of the reservoir due to the fact that core recovery has rarely been well in a highly fractured zone; hence, permeability measured from core sample is often not representative. Core analysis is a common method to identify small-scale fractures of the well and permeability and porosity; however, there are some limitations in the core procedure such as it is highly expensive and unidirectional and has a low recovery coefficient in fractured zone. In contrast, there tends to be a mistrust and even a suspicion of those logging instruments that make measurements which threaten to replicate or even replace the “sacred core.” Thus, image logs are more useful to study the subsurface fractures in these such cases and the logs which come closest to achieving this are the high-resolution micro resistivity (OBMI) and acoustic geological imaging (UBI). The core and OBMI-UBI result was matched in order to verify the log measurements. Furthermore, FMI data were integrated with other open-hole logs to derive a permeability curve. As demonstrated in the case studies, it is believed that the permeability in the basement could be reasonably evaluated using this method. As a result, this exercise has proven to be very valuable, not only for demonstrating the value of the log data, but also it has also highlighted some significant limitations of the core in water-based mud and oil-based mud systems.  相似文献
