The present study is the first to compare trophic relationships of several co-occurring phytal harpacticoid species, in their natural habitat, using both δ13C and δ15N signatures. Three phytal harpacticoid species/taxa (Zaus spinatus, Tisbe spp., and Parathalestris cf. intermedia) all collected from the alga Fucus serratus, at different times of the year, were analyzed. The results indicated that the harpacticoids were utilizing food sources differently. Specific food sources of the three species/taxa could not be accurately pinpointed, but there were strong indications that F. serratus and fragments from it did contribute significantly to the diet of P. cf. intermedia and Tisbe spp. Both of these harpacticoid species overlapped in δ13C and δ15N values with some of the macrofaunal species, collected from the same site in Hvassahraun, Iceland, while no overlap was seen for Z. spinatus. The signatures for Z. spinatus indicated that its food sources changed seasonally. 相似文献

An intercalibration between 32 laboratories in 16 countries was conducted using acidified and ultraviolet-irradiated seawater. One sample was natural seawater but two were spiked with mercuric chloride, 15.4 and 143 ngl?1, respectively. The results show, for the majority of the laboratories, good accuracy and precision in the recovery of spikes but they also demonstrate that the most serious errors in low-level determinations are systematic. 相似文献

Downslope windstorms at Kvísker in Southeast Iceland are explored using a mesoscale model, observations and numerical analysis of the atmosphere. Two different types of gravity-wave induced windstorms are identified. At the surface, their main difference is in the horizontal extent of the lee-side accelerated flow. Type S (Short) is a westerly windstorm, which is confined to the lee-slopes of Mount ?r?faj?kull, while a Type E (Extended) windstorm occurs in the northerly flow and is not confined to the lee-slopes but continues some distance downstream of the mountain. The Type S windstorm may be characterized as a more pure gravity-wave generated windstorm than the Type E windstorm which bears a greater resemblance to local flow acceleration described by hydraulic theory. The low-level flow in the Type E windstorm is of arctic origin and close to neutral with an inversion well above the mountain top level. At middle tropospheric levels there is a reverse vertical windshear. The Type S windstorm occurs in airmasses of southerly origin. It also has a well-mixed, but a shallower boundary-layer than the Type E windstorms. Aloft, the winds increase with height and there is an amplified gravity wave. Climate projections indicate a possible decrease in windstorm frequency up to the year 2050. 相似文献

6.3 earthquake that occurred in South Iceland on Thursday 29 May 2008 at 15:45 UTC. The epicentre was in the Olfus District
between the towns of Selfoss and Hveragerdi. This study examines the data recorded and the damage observed immediately after
the event. Horizontal accelerations of up to 80%g were recorded in the epicentral region and there is visual evidence that
the vertical acceleration exceeded 1 g. The PGA data is compared to a ground motion estimation model developed for the South
Iceland earthquakes in June 2000. In general the basic properties of this event are found to be similar to the characteristics
of the South Iceland earthquakes in June 2000. The duration of strong-motion is short and the intensity attenuates rapidly
with increasing distance. The earthquake action resisted by buildings in the near fault area is inspected through evaluation
of elastic as well as inelastic response spectra. The vast majority of structures seemed to withstand the strong-motion fairly
competently and without significant visual damage due firstly to the low-rise, predominantly reinforced concrete or timber,
style of buildings. Secondly, the short duration of strong-motion contributed to the endurance of structures. 相似文献

Macroseismic effects related to strong ground motion: a study of the South Iceland earthquakes in June 2000 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1

The impact of the June 2000 South Iceland earthquakes has been assessed applying data collected in field surveys and strong-motion
recordings from the Icelandic Strong-Motion Network. The areas within approximately 20 km of the causative faults suffered
considerable damage, including transportation and utility systems as well as buildings, both with regard to structure and
inventories. Ground subsidence and dislocations were significant in the near-fault zone. Aftershocks and permanent displacements
of building foundations resulted in progressive structural damage. By introducing holistic measures derived from the acceleration
data, a fair correlation was achieved between the obtained earthquake intensities and the recorded accelerations. The measures
adopted were square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS) values of peak ground acceleration (PGA) and the trace of the Arias
intensity tensor. It was found that the overall attenuation tended to be more rapid than reflected by common strong-motion
models reported in the literature. There is no simple explanation for this behaviour but it is reasonable to suggest that
it can be partly attributed to the heterogeneous and fractured crust that is characteristic of Icelandic geology. 相似文献

A first evidence of severe turbulence in the lower stratosphere during easterly tropospheric flow over Greenland is presented. A numerical simulation shows the turbulence to be associated with gravity wave breaking and that simulating with a horizontal resolution of 3 km gives substantially greater and more realistic turbulence than at a 9 km horizontal resolution. It is concluded that real-time simulations at high resolutions would improve aviation forecasts. As the atmospheric flow impinges on South-Greenland a barrier jet, a reverse tip jet and amplified mountain waves with secondary wave breaking are generated at the same time. 相似文献

This paper deals with the use of ARMA models in earthquake engineering. Tools and methods applied to strong ground motion are discussed emphasizing simulation of probabilistic earthquake response spectra. The ARMA models are applied to Icelandic earthquake data and a tentative model for Icelandic earthquakes is presented. This model, which is derived using 54 accelerograms, is based on a low-order, time-invariant ARMA process excited by Gaussian white noise and amplitude modulated using a simple envelope function to account for the non-stationary characteristics. This simple model gives a reasonable fit to the observed ground motion. Further, this model produces accurate earthquake response spectra, which, combined with accompanying attenuation and duration formulae, might be useful in earthquake hazard and risk assessment. 相似文献
