There is lack of information regarding ammonia nitrogen (AN), (i.e. NH3-N) decay rate of river water in tropical regions like Malaysia. AN decay rate is a very important kinetic parameter to estimate NH3-N, nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) and dissolved oxygen concentrations of river water by using computer models. This study presents determination of ammonia nitrogen decay rate of river water in the tropical environment of Malaysia. A laboratory flume was used to conduct twelve experiments. The flume was used to represent the turbulent condition of a typical river. Ammonia nitrogen decay rate for the tropical environment of Malaysia was observed to be between 0.194 and 0.554 per day. Median value of AN decay rate was 0.26 per day, which is slightly lower than the global median value of 0.295 per day. To check the accuracy of flume experiments, the AN decay rate of Pusu River obtained from the flume experiment was used to calibrate and validate ammonia nitrogen concentration of the river by using water quality analysis and simulation program (WASP). Very good calibration and validation results were achieved, which substantiated the accuracy of the flume experiments.  相似文献

A rigorous theoretical investigation has been made of obliquely propagating dust-acoustic solitary structures in a cold magnetized two-ion-temperature dusty plasma consisting of a negatively charged, extremely massive, cold dust fluid and ions of two different temperatures. The reductive perturbation method has been employed to derive the Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) equation which admits a solitary wave solution for small but finite amplitude limit. It has been shown that the presence of second component of ions modifies the nature of dust-acoustic solitary structures and may allow rarefactive dust-acoustic solitary waves (solitary waves with density dip) to exist in such a dusty plasma system. The effects of obliqueness and external magnetic field on the properties of these dust-acoustic solitary structures are also briefly discussed.  相似文献

Granular activated carbon produced from palm kernel shell was used as adsorbent to remove copper, nickel and lead ions from a synthesized industrial wastewater.Laboratory experimental investigation was carried out to identify the effect of pH and contact time on adsorption of lead, copper and nickel from the mixed metals solution. Equilibrium adsorption experiments at ambient room temperature were carried out and fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich models. Results showed that pH 5 was the most suitable, while the maximum adsorbent capacity was at a dosage of 1 g/L, recording a sorption capacity of 1.337 mg/g for lead, 1.581 mg/g for copper and 0.130 mg/g for nickel. The percentage metal removal approached equilibrium within 30 min for lead, 75 min for copper and nickel, with lead recording 100 %, copper 97 % and nickel 55 % removal, having a trend of Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Ni2+. Langmuir model had higher R2 values of 0.977, 0.817 and 0.978 for copper, nickel and lead respectively, which fitted the equilibrium adsorption process more than Freundlich model for the three metals.  相似文献

Nonlinear propagation of dust-acoustic (DA) waves in a magnetized dusty plasma, consisting of negatively charged mobile dust, Maxwellian ions and two distinct temperature nonextensive electrons (following nonextensive q-distribution each), has been studied and analyzed by deriving and solving the Korteweg-de-Vries (K-dV) equation. According to the outcomes of the investigation, the basic characteristics of the DA solitary profiles are found to be strongly modified by the external magnetic field, nonextensivity of the electrons and the respective number densities of the two species of electrons. The results of this investigation can be applied in both laboratory and astrophysical plasma scenarios for understanding the basic features of the localized electrostatic dust-acoustic solitary waves (DASWs).  相似文献

Shear and compressional dust Alfvén solitons propagating in a medium of opposite polarity magnetized dust fluids have been theoretically studied by using the reductive perturbation method. The derivative nonlinear Shrödinger (DNLS) and Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) equations, and their stationary solitonic solutions have been derived to identify the basic properties of shear and compressional dust Alfvén solitons. It is found that the opposite polarity dust medium under consideration supports the shear and compressional dust Alfvén solitons having new features with new (slow) time and (large) length scales. The basic features (amplitude and width) of the shear dust Alfvén solitons are found to be significantly different from those of the compressional ones. The importance of our results in understanding the nonlinear (localized) electromagnetic wave phenomena in space environments and laboratory devices is briefly discussed.  相似文献

A rigorous theoretical investigation of nonlinear electron-acoustic (EA) waves in a plasma system (containing cold electrons, hot electrons obeying a Boltzmann distribution, and hot ions obeying a nonthermal distribution) is studied by the reductive perturbation method. The modified Gardner (MG) equation is derived and numerically solved. It has been found that the basic characteristics of the EA Gardner solitons (GSs), which are shown to exist for α around its critical value α c [where α is the nonthermal parameter, α c is the value of α corresponding to the vanishing of the nonlinear coefficient of the Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) equation, e.g. α c ≃0.31 for μ=n h0/n i0=0.5, σ=T h /T i =10, n h0, n i0 are, respectively, hot electron and nonthermal ion number densities at equilibrium, T h (T i ) is the hot electron (ion) temperature], are different from those of the K-dV solitons, which do not exist for α around α c , and mixed K-dV solitons, which are valid around αα c , but do not have any corresponding double layers (DLs) solution. The parametric regimes for the existence of the DLs, which are found to be associated with positive potential, are obtained. The present investigations can be observed in various space plasma environments (viz. the geomagnetic tail, the auroral regions, the cusp of the terrestrial magnetosphere, etc.).  相似文献

A four-component dusty plasma consisting of electrons, ions, and negative as well as positive dust particles has been considered. The basic features of shock waves that may exist in such a four-component dusty plasma have been theoretically investigated by the reductive perturbation method. The implications of our results in different regions of space (viz. cometary tails, mesosphere, Jupiter’s magnetosphere, etc.) are briefly discussed.  相似文献

A rigorous theoretical investigation on the characteristics of dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) shock waves in an unmagnetized multi component electron-positron-ion dusty plasma (consisting of inertial ions, electrons of two distinct temperatures referred to as low and high temperature superthermal electrons where superthermality is introduced via the κ-type of nonthermal distribution, Boltzmann distributed positrons, and negatively charged immobile dust grains) has been made both theoretically and analytically. The hydrodynamic equation for inertial ions has been used to derive the Burgers equation. The influence of superthermal electrons, Maxwellian positrons and ion kinematic viscosity, which are found in this investigation, significantly modify the basic features of DIA shock waves, are briefly discussed. The present investigation can be very effective for studying and understanding the basic characteristics of shock wave propagation through different astrophysical situations where distinct temperature superthermal electrons dominate the wave dynamics.  相似文献

An investigation is presented on the very low-frequency electrostatic drift waves due to the motion of the plasma particles in the combined effect of the static magnetic field and the inhomogeneous particle distribution in a dusty plasma using the Vlasov-kinetic model of plasmas. These modes arise and are driven unstable due to the equilibrium diamagnetic currents of heavier species of the dusty plasma.
