We have developed a least-squares minimization approach to depth determination of a buried ore deposit from numerical horizontal gradients obtained from self-potential (SP) data using filters of successive window lengths (graticule spacings). The problem of depth determination from SP gradients has been transformed into the problem of finding a solution to a nonlinear equation of the form f(z)=0. Formulas have been derived for vertical and horizontal cylinders and spheres. Procedures are also formulated to estimate the electrical dipole moment and the polarization angle. The method is applied to synthetic data with and without random noise. Finally, the validity of the method is tested on two field examples. In both cases, the depth obtained is found to be in a very good agreement with that obtained from drilling information.  相似文献

Sensitized ZnS nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical precipitation method using anthocyanin as the capping agent and sensitizer. X-ray diffractometer, field-emission scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscopy, UV visible spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectrometry methods were used for the characterization of nanoparticles. The electron microscopy studies of nanoparticles showed that the size of crystallites is in the range of 35–80 nm and optical studies showed a blue shift in the absorption edge by adding capping agent. The effective band gap energy was increased with decrease in the particle size. Photocatalytic activities of sensitized ZnS and pure ZnS were evaluated by degradation of tetracycline in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation, and progress of the reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically. The different parameters affecting degradation such as the pH of solution, amount of semiconductor and reusability of catalyst for three cycles and the photocatalytic degradation kinetics of tetracycline were studied. More than 80% degradation was achieved within 5 h under visible light.  相似文献

The present study aims to provide carbon-isotope curves for the Cenomanian to Turonian rudist-dominated successions in north Sinai. The high-resolution carbon-isotope curves obtained from north Sinai sections provide new insight for calibrating the age of rudists as well as for evaluating the effects of the oceanic anoxic event 2 (OAE2) on rudist communities. The primary goals are (1) to provide a high-resolution sequence stratigraphic framework for the Cenomanian-Turonian succession, (2) to use rudist and ammonite biostratigraphic data to distinguish the stratigraphic levels of the rudist species, and (3) to integrate the chemostratigraphic (δ13C) profile and the rudist levels to improve the biostratigraphy based on the rudist distributions and the carbon-isotope data. The recognition of three ammonite zones through the Cenomanian-Turonian succession was utilized to identify four temporally significant rudist levels indicative of the Lower Cenomanian, Middle Cenomanian, Upper Cenomanian, and Middle Turonian, respectively. Most of the rudists occur in the highstand deposits of medium-scale sequences. Carbon- and oxygen-isotopic analyses were carried out on both rudists and surrounding carbonate units. Based on the variations in the carbon-isotope signals, 12 chronostratigraphic segments were identified in the studied sections. The Cenomanian carbon-isotope segments (C23–C30) were obtained from the Halal Formation at Gabal Yelleg and Gabal Maaza sections, while the Turonian segments (C30–C34) were measured from the Wata Formation at Gabal Yelleg section. The carbon-isotope record from the studied sections is consistent with the trends documented in previous studies of the Tethyan realm. The Cenomanian-Turonian boundary is placed at the onset of falling carbon-isotope values (δ13C) from 2.61 to ?0.25‰ in the upper part of OAE2 with the carbon-isotope segment C30 at Gabal Yelleg. The negative shift in δ13C values (C33) occurred in the Middle Turonian lowstand deposits characterizing the global sea level fall during this interval.  相似文献

The physicochemical properties of 21 marine sediment samples were investigated, collected from five different localities along the Jordanian coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. According to the chemical parameters, sediments were categorized into three groups: carbonate (80% CaCO3), composed mainly of materials of calcareous skeletal structures; terrigenous (<10% CaCO3) depositional areas for land-derived materials from surrounding rocks and alluviums; and a admixture of the first two (19–37% CaCO3). High significant linear correlations were found between organic carbon (OC) and total nitrogen (TN), indicating the occurrence of these components in a common phase (organic matter). Despite the co-occurrence of TP in organic matter, these two elements were negatively correlated, indicating anthropogenic sources of pollution such as phosphate exportation (hotel areas and clinker port sites) and industrial activities (industrial complex site). The study found that variations in texture properties and mud contents were due to differences in sediment sources, topography and their response during currents and waves. The finer, well-sorted sediments contain lower elemental concentrations of OC, calcium carbonate and TN (excluding TP) than coarser, poorly-sorted sediments.  相似文献

Biofiltration is a commonly practiced biological technique to remove volatile compounds from waste gas streams. From an industrial view‐point, biofilter (BF) operation should be flexible to handle temperatures and inlet load (IL) variations. A compost BF was operated at different temperatures (30–45°C) and at various inlet loading rates (ILR; 8–598 g m?3 h?1) under intermittent loading conditions. Complete removal of n‐hexane was observed at 30 and 35°C at ILRs up to 330 g m?3 h?1. Besides, 20–75% of the pollutant was removed at 40°C, corresponding to the different ILs applied to the BF. Increasing the temperature to 45°C decreased the removal efficiency (RE) significantly. A feed forward neural network was used to predict the RE of BF with temperature and ILR as the input variables. The experimental data was divided into training (2/3) and test datasets (1/3). The best structure of neural network was obtained by trial and error on the basis of the least differences between predicted and experimental values, as ascertained from their coefficient of regression (R2) values. The modeling results showed that a multilayer network with the topology 2?10?1 was able to predict BF performance effectively with R2‐value of 0.995 for the test data. The results from this study showed the predicting capability of ANNs which can be considered as an alternative for conventional knowledge‐based models.  相似文献

Drought as a natural disaster impresses people living. The main tool in better management of such phenomena is to explain its characteristics, using drought indices. The indices use precipitation, temperature, streamflow, and other hydrological variables to explain such events. In this study, standardized precipitation index (SPI) and stream-flow drought index (SDI) were used to develop a new combined drought index (CDI) based on copula functions. The proposed index function was evaluated in Khuzestan, Yazd and Golestan provinces of Iran from 1982 to 2012. These areas introduce different climate conditions. The index was analyzed temporally and spatially. In the temporal analysis, CDI was calculated separately for each station and the finest index was chosen by Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Chi-squared tests. In the spatial analysis, CDI was computed for two main scenarios and twenty sub-scenarios for the whole area of Golestan Province. The optimum index was chosen based on comparison with initial SPI and SDI. The results showed that CDI is more meticulous than both singular SPI and SDI, as it can trace a drought onset earlier and drought duration more accurate than the two individual indices and obviously display extreme states.  相似文献

The concentrations of six heavy metals were studied in five living coral species and their fossil counterparts collected along the Jordanian Coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. The study aimed at investigating the validity of using coral skeletons as bioindicators for environmental pollution by heavy metals in the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea. The skeletal samples of the collected corals were acid digested and analyzed for Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, and Zn content using flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results obtained have shown that higher concentrations of heavy metals were found in coral skeletons from areas hosting intense developments and human activities. The massive Porites sp. coral tended to accumulate the highest metal concentrations among the other species (except for Mn). This was due to interspecific differences or selectivity of heavy metals between different coral species. It was noteworthy that fossil coral species recorded higher average metal concentrations than their living counterparts; this was attributed to surface contamination due to prolonged burial of the fossil corals in sediment over the years. The study concluded that corals (specially the massive Porites species) are vulnerable to the accumulation of high concentrations of heavy metals in their skeletons and therefore can serve as proxies to monitor environmental pollution.  相似文献

Dynamic behavior of cigarette smoke particles inside the cabin of cars is investigated and the respirable suspended particles concentration during and after smoking cigarette is predicted in this study. This model is based on mass balance equations. Mechanisms of deposition on the surfaces and the exchange of air in the cabin are considered as sinks for emitted particles. The coagulation is accounted as a sink for smaller particles and as a source for larger particles. The various scenarios of smoking in the cars available in the literature are simulated in this study. Good agreement between the results of the present model and the experimental data, as well as the predictions of other available models, is achieved. The mean respirable suspended particle concentration in different scenarios is estimated and compared with Environmental Protection Agency’s health-based standards in order to specify the situations with respirable suspended particles concentrations exceeding the allowable limits. The results show that the concentration of particles due to the smoke of a single cigarette in a stationary medium sized car with the air conditioner off is 33.6 μg/m3 and nearly reaches the limits appointed by the Environmental Protection Agency for a 24 h incremental exposure (35 μg/m3). Corresponding values for moving cars have also been calculated and compared with the standards.  相似文献

The intra-mountainous Ida Ou Zal Basin developed as a graben during the Stephanian (Carboniferous) and Lower Permian. Along its borders from east to west are the remnants of basal conglomerates. Passing laterally towards the centre of the basin are fine-grained fluvial-lacustrine sediments or flood-plain deposits. The important accumulation (1800 m) of sediments, associated with climatic and tectonic changes, caused substantial subsidence in a late orogenic setting. The remnants of sporadic volcanic products (shards) found in the Ida Ou Zal and the Ida Ou Zika Basins suggest nearby simultaneous magmatic activity.A comparison between the basins of Ida Ou Zal and Ida Ou Ziki suggest that the two basins formed a single unit, called the Souss Basin, ultimately terminated between the Lower Permian and Upper Permian times by a sinistral movement of the N70-80° Agadir Ou Anzizen Fault (west branch of the Tizi N'Test Fault) at the very end of the Hercynian Orogeny in Morocco.  相似文献
