The magneto-rotational evolution of a neutron star in the massive binary system 4U 2206+54 is discussed in light of the recent discovery of its 5555 s rotational period and its average rate of spin-down. We show that this behavior of the neutron star means that its magnetic field exceeds the quantum mechanical critical limit and it is an accretion magnetar. The system’s evolution is explained by wind driven mass transfer without formation of an accretion disk. The constant character of the x-ray source indicates a steady rate of accretion and raises anew the question of the stability of the boundary of the magnetosphere of a star undergoing spherical accretion. A solution to this problem is also a key to determining the mechanism for the slowing down of the star’s rotation.  相似文献

We explore the possibility of explaining Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) and Soft Gammaray Repeaters (SGRs) in a scenario with fall-back magnetic accretion onto a young isolated neutron star. The X-ray emission of the pulsar in this case originates due to the accretion of matter onto the surface of the neutron star from a magnetic slab surrounding its magnetosphere. The spin-down rate of the neutron star expected in this picture is close to the observed value. We show that such neutron stars are relatively young and are going through the transition from the propeller state to the accretor state. The pulsar’s activity in gamma-rays is connected with its relative youth, and is enabled by energy stored in a non-equilibrium layer located in the crust of the low-mass neutron star. This energy can be released due to the mixing of matter in the neutron star crust with super heavy nuclei approaching its surface and becoming unstable. The fission of nuclei in the low-density region initiates chain reactions leading to a nuclear explosion. Outbursts are probably triggered by instability developing in the region where the matter accreted by the neutron star accumulates in the magnetic polar regions.  相似文献

Using the observational data of the Stanford observatory on photospheric magnetic fields for 1976?C2001, we separate open and closed configurations of the magnetic field with a filter of a specified spatial scale and demonstrate that the 11-year solar cycle passes two significantly different phases.  相似文献

We analyze properties of the unique nova-like star AE Aquarii identified with a close binary system containing a red dwarf and a very fast rotating magnetized white dwarf. It cannot be assigned to any of the three commonly adopted sub-classes of Cataclysmic Variables: Polars, Intermediate Polars, and Accreting non-magnetized White Dwarfs. Our study has shown that the white dwarf in AE Aqr is in the ejector state and its dipole magnetic moment is ???1.5 × 1034 G cm3. It switched into this state due to intensive mass exchange between the system components during a previous epoch. A high rate of disk accretion onto the white dwarf surface resulted in temporary screening of its magnetic field and spin-up of the white dwarf to its present spin period. Transition of the white dwarf to the ejector state had occurred at a final stage of the spin-up epoch as its magnetic field emerged from the accreted plasma due to diffusion. In the frame of this scenario AE Aqr represents a missing link in the chain of Polars evolution and the white dwarf resembles a recycled pulsar.  相似文献

This paper describes the structure and the principal evolutionary stages of the Ushakov postdeposition anticline zone, which is located in the western part of the Chukchi Basin. The Albian-Upper Cretaceous deposits that filled riftogenic zones and the Paleocene-Lower Neocene rocks that formed under the conditions of continuing spreading make up the sedimentary cover, which has undergone substantial deformation because of strike-slip motions. As a result of paleoreconstructions, the principal period of formation for this structure was determined as the Paleocene-Late Miocene, when strike-slip motions of blocks beneath the South Chukchi Basin occurred.  相似文献

The point X-ray source 1E 161348-5055 is observed to display pulsations with the period 6.67?hr and $|\dot{P}| \leq1.6 \times10^{-9}\,{\rm s\,s^{-1}}$ . It is associated with the supernova remnant RCW?103 and is widely believed to be a ~2000?yr old neutron star. Observations give no evidence for the star to be a member of a binary system. Nevertheless, it resembles an accretion-powered pulsar with the magnetospheric radius ~3000?km and the mass-accretion rate $\sim 10^{14}\,{\rm g\,s^{-1}}$ . This situation could be described in terms of accretion from a (residual) fossil disk established from the material falling back towards the star after its birth. However, current fall-back accretion scenarios encounter major difficulties explaining an extremely long spin period of the young neutron star. We show that the problems can be avoided if the accreting material is magnetized. The star in this case is surrounded by a fossil magnetic slab in which the material is confined by the magnetic field of the accretion flow itself. We find that the surface magnetic field of the neutron star within this scenario is ~1012?G and that a presence of $\gtrsim10^{-7}\,{\rm M_{\odot}}$ magnetic slab would be sufficient to explain the origin and current state of the pulsar.  相似文献

We analyze the solar neutrino flux fluctuations using data from the Homestake, GALLEX, GNO, SAGE, and Super Kamiokande experiments. Spectral analysis and direct quantitative estimations show that the quasi-five-year periodicity is the most stable neutrino flux variation. Revised mean solar neutrino fluxes are presented. These are used to estimate the observed pp flux of the solar electron neutrinos near the Earth. We consider two alternative explanations for the origin of the variable component of the solar neutrino deficit.  相似文献

We analyze the possibility of observational identification of white dwarfs in the state of an ejector. Among the distinctive features of this class of objects are a high rate of rotational energy loss comparable to or higher than the observed luminosity of the object and nonthermal gamma-ray and/or radio spectra. The manifestations of the white dwarf in the close binary system AE Aquarii closely match these criteria. We show that most of the peculiar manifestations of this object in the hard spectral range and the observed pattern of mass transfer in the system can be explained in terms of a model in which the state of the white dwarf is classified as an ejector.  相似文献
