Small bodies of pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, minor pentlandite, and magnetite occur at the peripheries of podiform bodies of chromite in ultramafic ophiolitic rocks at Tsangli, Eretria, central Greece. Banding of magnetite and sulfide within the bodies is reminiscent of magmatic banding. A magmatic origin has been proposed for similar sulfide masses in the Troodos ophiolite (Panayiotou, 1980). The compositions of the host rocks, chromite, and of the sulfides have been investigated. On average, the sulfide mineralization, recalculated to metal content in 100% sulfide, contains 0.55% Ni, 5.15% Cu, 0.29% Co, 9 ppb Pd, 179 ppb Pt, 16 ppb Rh, 112 ppb Ru, 31 ppb Ir, 58 ppb Os, and 212 ppb Au. These metal contents, particularly the high Cu/(Cu+Ni) ratio of 0.78 and the Pt/(Pd+Pt) ratio of 0.95, are inconsistent with the sulfides having reached equilibrium with their Ni rich host rocks at magmatic temperatures and accordingly it is concluded that they are not of magmatic origin. The average 34S value of the sulfide bodies is +2 while that of a sample of pyrite from country-rock schist is –15.6. These values are inconclusive as to the origin of the sulfur. It is suggested that the sulfides have been precipitated by hydrothermal fluids, possibly those responsible for the serpentinization of the host rocks. The source of the metals may have been the host rocks themselves.  相似文献

In this paper, the application of 2D and 3D electrical resistivity methods in geotechnical investigations is explored through a case study in Northern Greece. These two methods were employed at a lignite surface mining operation where fracture zones and discontinuities have been recently observed close to the pit boundaries. The main aim of the geophysical survey was to estimate the inclination of the contact between the Neogene and Schist/Carbonate formations near the southern limits of the pit, as well as to estimate the thickness of the carbonate rocks on top of the Schist formations to evaluate the stability of the southern slopes. Synthetic data were initially generated to help plan an efficient electrical tomography survey, in a region with complex geology and irregular terrain. Three configurations (Wenner–Schlumberger and dipole–dipole or pole–dipole) proved essential in such conditions and helped improving the resolution of the resistivity section. The sections were then calibrated by boreholes. Finally, the geophysical survey provided invaluable data regarding the geometry of the bedrock and possible faults, which was essential for the slope stability calculations.  相似文献

The ORAC‐DR data reduction pipeline has been used by the Joint Astronomy Centre since 1998. Originally developed for an infrared spectrometer and a submillimetre bolometer array, it has since expanded to support twenty instruments from nine different telescopes. By using shared code and a common infrastructure, rapid development of an automated data reduction pipeline for nearly any astronomical data is possible. The objective of the COST296 Action MIERS (Mitigation of Ionospheric Effects on Radio Systems) is to develop an increased knowledge of the effects imposed by the ionosphere on practical radio systems, and for the development and implementation of techniques to mitigate the deleterious effects of the ionosphere on such systems (http://www.cost296.rl.ac.uk). The COST296 Community contributes to the international efforts of IHY with scientific and outreach activities as well. After the realization of a web site hosted by Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), developed also to promote the ionospheric physics to the open public, the COST296 Community supported an initiative addressed to the pupils of the primary school of several European Countries: the realization of a school-calendar dedicated to the Sun and to the Sun-Earth connections.  相似文献

A safety format is proposed for the flexural design of reinforced concrete members for the combination of seismic and gravity loads, with load and resistance factors which depend on member type, on the value of the target theoretical probability of failure and on the ratio of the load effect due to gravity loads to that due to the nominal value of the seismic action, both obtained by elastic analysis. Safety factors are computed through an advanced Level II reliability procedure, using a limit state inequality between the member rotation ductility supply under monotonic loading and the peak rotation ductility and cyclic energy dissipation demands. Uncertainties considered are: for resistance, the uncertainty of failure under imposed cyclic deformations, and for action, the maximum peak ductility and energy dissipation demands in the structure's lifetime, as obtained through a series of non-linear dynamic analyses of multistorey buildings in 3D. using as input ensembles of bidirectional acceleration time-histories which describe probabilistically the extreme bidirectional seismic action in the structure's lifetime. Computed load and resistance factors are practically independent of the load-effects ratio. The load factor on the seismic action is found to be independent of member type and to increase with the theoretical probability of failure much faster than the elastic spectral value at the structure's fundamental period with probability of exceedance in the structure's lifetime. Simple rules for the dependence of the resistance modification factors on the theoretical failure probability are also derived. As for the computed values of the load factors the moment due to gravity loads is negligible in comparison to the factored seismic moment, a simplified safety checking inequality between the design flexural capacity and a reduced seismic moment is proposed, in which the ratio of the resistance to the load factor plays the role of a force reduction or effective behaviour factor for the member.  相似文献

Mineralization composed dominantly of primary troilite, maucherite, pentlandite, and chalcopyrite, and secondary valleriite occurs in serpentinized transition zone rocks of the Limasol Forest segment of the Troodos ophiolite complex, Cyprus. Whole-rock and electron microprobe analyses of this mineralization gives ranges of Cu/(Cu+Ni)=0.16 to 0.47, Pt/(Pt+Pd)=0.66 to 0.51, Ni/Co=6.33 to 13.4, and chondrite normalized plots with low concentrations of Rh, Pt, and Pd, but relatively high Au. Estimated distribution coefficients of nickel and iron between olivine and ore range from 0.5 to 7.4. Most of these data are unlike values from magmatic sulfide deposits and indicate either a complete alteration of a preexisting magmatic sulfide concentration or, more likely, a nonmagmatic origin for this mineralization.  相似文献
