A wave-height meter using a simple microwave Doppler radar,simeq10mW in power and 10.525 GHz in frequency, is proposed so that we can measure oceanic waves effectively while the ship is steaming. It was first applied to the measurement of the variation of water level generated in a wave tank, which suggested that it is adequately applicable to the measurement of oceanic waves. A field test was carried out off the cape of Nojimazaki by installing the Doppler radar 5 m above the sea level at the bow of the ship. The result agreed reasonably well with that measured simultaneously by the ultrasonic wave-height meter installed at the same position. Another test is running successfully on a larger ship with the wave-height meter installed at 9 m above the sea level. The significant wave height measured by the present meter is being compared with that observed visually by the navigation officers.  相似文献

Concurrent variations of CNA fluctuations and geomagnetic fluctuations are classified into Type 1 (substorm-type), Type 2 (Pc5-type), and Type 3 which is the object of the present study. Type 3 apparently has peculiar characteristics in that CNA fluctuations at a certain auroral-zone station show a pronounced positive correlation with magnetic fluctuations at distant low-latitude stations. The magnetic fluctuations of this type are identified to generalized Si which tends to take place much more frequently than the so-called Si. The CNA fluctuations of this type are found to take place on the dayside auroral zone only when preceded by a magnetic substorm on the night side. Considering the change of the growth rate of electron cyclotron instability and enhancement of pitch angle diffusion due to the change of magnetic field intensity, the following model is proposed to explain the occurrence mechanism of Type 3 concurrent variations. The CNA fluctuations take place only when two conditions are satisfied; generation of the accelerated electrons in association with substorm onset and modulation of the precipitation of the electrons by compression and expansion of the magnetosphere, in other words, by generalized Si.  相似文献

In situ observation of downward solar radiation in the Western Pacific were carried out with voluntary merchant ships for five years from autumn 1990 through autumn 1995. Daily means of the short wave radiation were computed from the observed solar radiation. Then, the effects of shadows of the ship's superstructures on the observed radiation were corrected if needed. A 5-year average of short wave radiation along the main sea-lanes in the Western Pacific was calculated based on the observed daily mean solar radiation. Maximum values of 270–280 Wm–2 are found around 15°–20°N in May and June, while those of 290 Wm–2 are observed south of 18°S in November and December along the lanes. Small annual variations are found in the equatorial region. Annual mean values at the equator are about 230 Wm–2 between New Guinea and Indonesia, and 200 Wm–2 east of New Guinea. The 5-year average of short wave radiation was compared with the climatologies given in previous studies. We have concluded that some of results of previous studies are significantly underestimated.  相似文献

We have been performingin situ measurement of downward short wave radiation (solar radiation) in the western Pacific Ocean in cooperation with voluntary ships since autumn 1990 in order to obtain much more precise knowledge of downward short wave radiation at the sea's surface than before. Preliminary result of the observation from autumn 1990 through spring 1992 is shown in this paper. The comparison of observed daily mean downward short wave radiation with that estimated from observed cloudiness by using Reed (1977) formula is also presented to show the necessity ofin situ measurement in the study of the downward short wave radiation at the sea's surface.  相似文献

It is suggested that the drop out of the 1.2–4 MeV proton flux, observed by the geostationary satellite GMS, was due to the Earthward shift of the particle boundary in all local time. The particle boundary motions are associated with substorm activities.  相似文献

Results are summarized of an investigation concerned with the development and validation of a method for estimating persistence statistics from cumulative probability distributions. Primary attention has been devoted to estimations of wave height persistence and the motivation has been the requirement to provide estimates of persistence statistics as an additional output for the wave climate synthesis programme called NMIMET which can provide data on a worldwide basis. The opportunity has also been taken to adapt the methods developed for application to estimation of wind speed persistence.A method due to Graham is taken as the starting point and is modified in the light of detailed examination of a number of measured data sets. The method thus derived is shown to be more reliable and much simpler to apply than Graham's method and to give results in good agreement with a range of measured data sets for both exceedance and non exceedance. The measured data used for validation include 2 sets in areas remote from the sites in UK waters used for most of the development. A comparison is also included between persistence statistics estimated using NMIMET output of wave height probabilities from visual wave data and results from measured data.  相似文献

167 SSC events have been studied by using the data observed at the multiple-satellites at the geosynchronous altitude. The strong local time asymmetry of the SSC amplitude which was found by Kokubun (1983) has been confirmed. The pronounced local time asymmetry has also been found with the direction of the initial movement of Psc magnetic pulsations. Those local time effects are interpreted by the intensification of the magnetopause surface current during a SSC event, and by the distance between the geosynchronous satellite and the surface current. It has also been clarified that the SSC signal propagates with a speed of 400–700 km s?1 across the field lines in the magnetosphere as suggested by Wilken et al. (1982).  相似文献

The KASMMER (Kakioka Automatic Standard Magnetometer) has been constructed in 1972 for the standard magnetic observation at Kakioka (Yanagiharaet al., 1973). Then KASMMER system has been improved successively for the high level standard magnetic observation. The purpose of the present paper is to introduce an outline of the improved KASMMER system.The KASMMER system consists of four parts which are four optical pumping magnetometers, a fluxgate magnetometer (Supporting system to the optical pumping magnetometers), a calibration system and a data acquisition system (computer system). The calibration system consists of a proton magnetometer and a magnetic theodolite (Di-72). Details for each part are described and the ability of the improved system is shown to be higher than that of classical magnetic observatory systems.  相似文献
