Anomalies found in the isotope ratios of ozone are traceable to the ozone formation process. Metastable electronic states may be responsible for the preferred production of the heavy molecules. While laboratory isotope data and first tropospheric results agree well in the magnitude of isotope enrichments, stratospheric measurements show often higher values. Only through the collection of ozone samples can sufficiently large amounts of gas be obtained to analyze the three isotopes 48O3, 49O3, and 50O3. Collector systems have been developed and successfully operated in the troposphere and in the stratosphere. They will play in the future an important role in atmospheric oxygen isotope studies.  相似文献

Summary The velocity potential and the shape of the free surface of a steady state gravity flow of incompressible, homogeneous groundwater inside an inhomogeneous, anisotropic aquifer are to be determined as the solution of a non-linear boundary-value problem. In this paper an equivalent variational principle has been formulated which is useful as a base of variational methods solving this boundary-value problem approximately.
Zusammenfassung Das Geschwindigkeitspotential und die Gestalt des freien Grundwasserspiegels einer stationären Strömung inkompressiblen, homogenen Grundwassers innerhalb eines anisotropen, inhomogenen Grundwasserträgers sind aus einem nichtlinearen Randwertproblem zu bestimmen. Es wird ein äquivalentes Variationsprinzip angegeben, welches als Basis für die Anwendung direkter Methoden der Variationsrechnung zur approximativen Lösung dieses Randwertproblemes dienen kann.

Zusammenfassung Es werden die Ergebnisse einer Berechnung des geomagnetischen Potentials in Form einer Reihenentwicklung nach Kugelfunktionen bis zur 15. Ordnung auf Grund der magnetischen Weltkarten für die Epoche 1945,0 vonE. H. Vestine und andern vorgelegt. Bei der Ableitung des Potentialausdrucks nach der Methode der kleinsten Quadrate wurden die Orthogonalitätseigenschaften der Kugelflächenfunktionen vollständig ausgenutzt.
Summary The results of the analysis of the main geomagnetic field for the epoch 1945.0 in a series of spherical harmonics to the 15th degree are presented. The analysis is based on the world magnetic charts derived byVestine et al. The coefficients of the potential are calculated by least-squares approximation taking advantage of the orthogonality of the spherical harmonics over discrete ranges.

Summary The nuclear regions of many galaxies are not accessible at optical wavelengths and are devoid of HI, but contain large quantities of molecular gas and dust. With recent advances in instrumentation it is now possible to probe the kinematics and physical state of the cool dense interstellar medium, thus providing a new and important tool to investigate the circumnuclear gas in galaxies that are more active than our own. The scope of this review is to summarize results related to the subject with an emphasis on observational data. Sects. 1 and 2 present a general introduction, followed by a discussion of molecular mass estimates. In Sect. 3 correlations between nuclear and global galactic properties are discussed. Sects. 4 and 5 summarize observational results for nearby strongly interacting galaxies, properties of molecular bars and rings, and theoretical advances in modelling the data. The main part of the review (Sects. 6–8) describes the kinematics and the physical and chemical properties of the dense gas, including masers, and compares them with the nuclear region of the Galaxy. Molecular gas in distant galaxies and the evolution of active galaxies are discussed in Sect. 9. Some promising avenues for future research are outlined in Sect. 10.  相似文献

The concept of simultaneous multifrequency continuum observations, successfully tested on Comet Hyakutake, was applied to Comet Hale-Bopp, using the Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope (HHT) with the four color bolometer between 250 and 870 GHz, the IRAM 30m telescope at 240 Ghz, the MPIfR 100-m telescope at 32 GHz, and the IRAM interferometer near 90 and 240 GHz. Near-simultaneous measurements were done between February 15 and April 26, 1997, mainly concentrated in mid March shortly before perigee of the comet. The measurements gave the following preliminary results: Interferometer detection of the nuclear thermal emission. If the signal at the longest interferometer spacing of 170 mis due to thermal emission from the nucleus only, its equivalent diameter is ∼49 km. If, however, this signal contains a contribution from a strongly centrally peaked halo distribution(e.g., r−2 density variation) the diameter may be as low as 35 km. The emission found interferometrically was always 5″ north and 0.1 sec east from the position predicted by Yeoman's solution 55.The comparison of the interferometric continuum emission with the simultanously obtained molecular line observations (reported on this conference) shows the origin of the strongest line emission concentrated on the nucleus. The 30-m observations show a radio halo with a gaussian FWHP of ∼11, corresponding to a diameter of 11000 km at geocentric distance of 1.2 a.u. A spectral index of ∼3.0 for the total signal, which may indicate a smaller mean particle size than for Hyakutake. Assuming an average cometary density of 0.5 gcm−3, the mass contained in the nucleus is ∼1$#x2013;3 1019 g and 1012 g in the particle halo. Zusammenfassung Die Kinematik der magnetischen Feldlinien im Plasma kann mit denselben mathematischen Hilfsmitteln studiert werden, welche sich in der Kinematik der Wirbel bewährt haben. Ausgehend vom Faradayschen Induktionsgesetz für bewegte Medien können gefolgert werden: eine notwenige und hinreichende bedingung dafür, dass die magnetischen Feldlinien mit materiellen Kurven zusammenfallen; ein Analogon zuC. Truesdells «basic vorticity formula», welches die Mitführung und Diffusion der magnetischen Feldlinien im Plasma beschreibt; Sätze zur Kinematik der Feldlinien, welche eine frei wählbare tensorielle Feldfunktion beliebiger Stufe enthalten und den vonH. Ertel formulierten «allgemeinen Wirbelsätzen» entsprechen, insbesondere Analoga zuErtels «Vertauschungsrelationen». In einem isentropen idealen Plasma ist das mit dem spezifischen Volumen multiplizierte Skalar-produkt aus der magnetischen Induktion und dem Gradienten der Entropiedichte zeitlich individuell konstant.
Summary The kinematics of magnetic field lines in a plasma can be studies by means of the mathematical methods used in the kinematics of vorticity. Starting withFaraday's law of induction for moving circuits the following results can be derived: a necessary and sufficient condition that the magnetic field lines remain material lines; a formula describing the convection and diffusion of the magnetic field lines in a plasma, which is analogous to the «basic vorticity formula» ofC. Truesdell; general theorems containing an arbitrary tensor field of any order, which are analogous to general vorticity theorems ofH. Ertel, especially a «commutation formula» corresponding to the «Euler-Ertel commutation formula» for circulation preserving motions. Given an isentropic ideal plasma it follows that ( denoting the density, the magnetic induction,s the specific entropy, andd/dt the material time derivative).

Recently, the authors reported the first detections of HNC, C2H, CN and, perhaps, HC3N toward external galaxies. These detections, as well as that of extragalactic methanol, have been obtained using the 30-m IRAM mm-wave telescope. The previous results are revised in the light of recently available high-resolution CO maps of the respective galaxies. The relative abundances are similar to those found toward warm Galactic molecular clouds.  相似文献
