The brightness distribution of the Sun near the north pole at = 3 and 21 cm is obtained using the results of the partial eclipse of February 25, 1971. The solution obtained by expanding B (r) in orthogonal polynomials does not show any brightening at either frequency, but a sensible darkening. If this result is explained by the presence of spicules, the coronal emission must be negligible with respect to the emission coming from the transition region. This is possible, at = 21 cm, only if we assume the presence of a coronal hole near the pole.  相似文献

An exceptionally fast wind (8500 km/s) was suggested to occur in the central star of the planetary nebula K1-16, belonging to the class of the PG 1159 H-deficient pre-white dwarfs. To ascertain the reality of such a fast wind this star has been observed with the HST telescope using the GHRS in the zone of theCiv 155.0 nm doublet. The HST data and tests made using synthetic stellar spectra support the existence of a stellar wind with a terminal velocity of 3800 km/s and a mass loss rate lower thanM<2 · 10–11 M per year. Possibly it is no longer the fastest stellar wind so far observed but it is still among the fastest.  相似文献

The flux of the radio quiet Sun and the brightness temperature at 408 MHz (73 cm) are derived from measurements with the E-W Nançay interferometer and the E-W arm of the Medicina North Cross. It is shown that the lowest envelopes, which defined the radio quiet Sun, correspond to transits of extended coronal holes across the disk of the Sun.  相似文献
