The interaction of matter and radiation in a hot-model universe   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
In this paper we continue the investigation initiated by Weymann as to the reason why the spectrum of the residual radiation deviates from a Planck curve. We shall consider the distortions of the spectrum resulting from radiation during the recombination of a primeval plasma. Analytical expressions are obtained for the deviation from an equilibrium spectrum due to Compton scattering by hot electrons. On the basis of the observational data it is concluded that a period of neutral hydrogen in the evolution of the universe is unavoidable. It is shown that any injection of energy att>1010 sec (red shiftz<105) leads to deviation from an equilibrium spectrum.Translated by Peter Foukal.  相似文献

Fluctuations of all scales are equally interesting from the point of view of the characteristics of the singular state and not only those which led to the formation of astronomical objects such as clusters of galaxies, separate galaxies, globular clusters and quasars. In this article estimates are given of the homogeneity of the overall density of hot plasma and the relation between the quantity of baryons and antibaryons at early stages of evolution of the Universe. These estimates are made for small scales, considerably smaller than the scale of the astronomical objects enumerated above. Considerations about the energy balance of hot plasma and distortions of the spectrum of relic radiation due to dissipation of density fluctuations of matter are used for these estimates. The corrected upper limit to early energy injection is given. In our preceding paper (Sunyaev and Zeldovich, 1970) this upper limit was underestimated. Difficulties with a model of the Universe which is symmetric in baryon charge are noted.  相似文献

Heating of the primaeval plasma prior to the epoch of recombination results in distortions in the Rayleigh-Jeans region of the microwave relic radiation spectrum (1–60 cm, or more exactly =2.5–7/8 cm). The present observational data allow limits to be set to such energy injection from which follow upper limits to (a) the amount of antimatter in the universe; (b) the parameters of primaeval turbulence; and (c) the adiabatic fluctuation spectrum for small masses (M<1011 M ).If the heating takes place prior to the epocht=101012/5 sec (and in particular at the annihilation of electron-positron pairs atT108–1010 K,t<300 sec), no observable distortions are expected in the relic radiation spectrum. Here =/crit is the dimensionless average density of matter in the universe.Translated from the Russian by D. F. Smith.  相似文献

The energy spectra of protons at energies in the range of about 1–100 MeV are investigated during time periods of low solar activity using data sets from near Earth spacecraft. These populations pose a tough experimental and theoretical problem that remains unsolved up to now. We attempt to provide a consistent definition of low-flux quiet-time periods relevant to low solar activity as well as quasi-stationary periods useful at higher levels of solar activity. Using statistical methods, the possible instrumental contribution to the lowest observed proton fluxes for various detectors is estimated. We suggest and prove that there exists a low-flux population of charged particles in the energy range of about 1–10 MeV, which is present in the inner heliosphere even during the quietest conditions at lowest solar activity. The dynamics of the variations of proton spectra over the solar cycle is investigated. A series of low-flux periods is examined in detail and energy spectra of protons are approximated in the form of J(E)=AE +CE. By determining the best fitting parameters to the energy spectra correlations are made among them as well as with monthly sunspot numbers characterizing solar activity. It has been demonstrated that the value of the energy minimum of proton spectrum E min that `divides' the two populations – `solar/heliospheric' and `galactic' – is shifted towards higher values with increasing solar activity. Protons have been argued to be predominantly of solar origin up to several MeV near the solar cycle minimum and up to 20–30 MeV at maximum. The slope of the lower spectrum branch (parameter ) slightly decreases with increasing solar activity. The minimum fluxes observed during the last 3 minima of solar activity are compared; the lowest fluxes were those during the 1985–1987 period.  相似文献

Perturbations of the matter density in a homogeneous and isotropic cosmological model which leads to the formation of galaxies should, at later stages of evolution, cause spatial fluctuations of relic radiation. Silk assumed that an adiabatic connection existed between the density perturbations at the moment of recombination of the initial plasma and fluctuations of the observed temperature of radiation δT/T ?m /3 ?m . It is shown in this article that such a simple connection is not applicable due to:
  1. The long time of recombination;
  2. The fact that when regions withM<1015 M become transparent for radiation, the optical depth to the observer is still large due to Thompson scattering;
  3. The spasmodic increase of δ ?m/?m in recombination.
As a result the expected temperature fluctuations of relic radiation should be smaller than adiabatic fluctuations. In this article the value of δT/T arising from scattering of radiation on moving electrons is calculated; the velocity field is generated by adiabatic or entropy density perturbations. Fluctuations of the relic radiation due to secondary heating of the intergalactic gas are also estimated. A detailed investigation of the spectrum of fluctuations may, in principle, lead to an understanding of the nature of initial density perturbations since a distinct periodic dependence of the spectral density of perturbations on wavelength (mass) is peculiar to adiabatic perturbations. Practical observations are quite difficult due to the smallness of the effects and the presence of fluctuations connected with discrete sources of radio emission.  相似文献

Quite an unusual behavior of the low-energy ion fluxes measured with the LECP and CRS instruments onboard Voyager 1, which is located in the outer heliosphere at a distance of about 90 AU, has been observed since July 2002 until recently (February 2003). This behavior can be interpreted as a possible manifestation of a combination of the global heliospheric disturbance produced by solar activity and the precursor of the outer heliosphere with its termination shock. The extremely large variability of the enhanced ion fluxes since the second half of 2002 in several energy channels from 0.5 to several MeV/nucleon is presumed to be associated with the sources of their acceleration near the termination shock. The simultaneous increase in the flux of protons with energies above 70 MeV may result from the easier penetration of Galactic cosmic rays because of the reduction in modulation at the declining phase in the current solar cycle 23 after the maximum in 2000 and from an admixture of the anomalous component accelerated at the termination shock.  相似文献

The fluxes of 3He, 4He, C, O, and Fe ions at low energies (about \(0.04\,\mbox{--} \,2~\mbox{MeV}/\mbox{nucleon}\)) are studied during quiet periods in Solar Cycles (SC) 23 and 24 using data from the ULEIS/ACE instrument. In selecting quiet periods (the definition is given in Section 2.1), additional data from EPHIN/SOHO and EPAM/ACE were also used. The analysis of the ion energy spectra and their relative abundances shows that their behavior is governed by their first-ionization potential. Substantial differences in the ion energy spectra in two consecutive solar cycles are observed during the quiet periods selected. Quiet-time fluxes are divided into three distinct types according to the \({\sim}\,80\,\mbox{--}\,320~\mbox{keV}/\mbox{nucleon}\) Fe/O ratio. Our results confirm the earlier observation that these types of suprathermal particles have different origins, that is, they represent different seed populations that are accelerated by different processes. Except for the solar activity minimum, the Fe/O ratio during quiet-time periods correspond either to the abundances of ions in particle fluxes accelerated in impulsive solar flares or to the mean abundances of elements in the solar corona. At the activity minimum, this ratio takes on values that are characteristic for the solar wind. These results indicate that the background fluxes of low-energy particles in the ascending, maximum, and decay phases of the solar cycle include significant contributions from both coronal particles accelerated to suprathermal energies and ions accelerated in small impulsive solar flares rich in Fe, while the contribution of remnants from earlier SEP events cannot be excluded. The comparison of suprathermal ion abundances during the first five years of SC 23 and SC 24 suggests that the quiet-time and non-quiet fluxes of Fe and 3He were lower in SC 24.  相似文献
