This paper addresses the problem of spatial functional extrapolation in the framework of spatial autoregressive Hilbertian processes of order one (SARH(1) processes) introduced in Ruiz-Medina (J Muitivar Anal 102:292–305, 2011a). Moment-based estimators of the operators involved in the state equation of these processes are computed by projection into a suitable orthogonal basis. Specifically, the eigenfunction basis diagonalizing the autocovariance operator is considered. An estimation algorithm is designed for the implementation of the resulting SARH(1)-plug-in projection extrapolator from temporal curves irregularly distributed in space. Its performance is illustrated with a real-data example, where the problem of spatial functional extrapolation of ocean surface temperature profiles is addressed. This problem is crucial in the assessment of climate change anomalies. The data are collected from the public oceanographic bio-optical database: The World-wide Ocean Optics Database. Cross Validation (C.V.) procedures are applied for the evaluation of the estimation results derived.  相似文献

Olive cultivation is a widespread land use in Mediterranean climates. The proper implementation of soil and water conservation practices in groves requires detailed knowledge of the governing hydrological processes. In this work topsoil moisture dynamics under wet and dry conditions and across a small catchment was investigated in the inter row (IR) and directly under the olive tree canopies (UC). We do this using a sensor network (11 stations) and a simple bucket model which was calibrated (June, 2011–2012) and validated (June, 2012–2013). During most of the year the normalized soil moisture contents (s) were greater in the IR than under UC, with an average normalized soil moisture difference of 0.12. The difference between UC and IR normalized soil moisture followed a seasonal pattern, reaching a maximum near 0.30 during spring. An analysis of the normalized soil moisture probability density functions (pdfs) was bimodal, showing characteristic dominant wet and dry soil moisture states, with the highest probability densities for the dry state. Overall the spatial variability of soil moisture was lower UC than in the IR. This was a result of the soil moisture buffering capacity of the canopy with respect to rainfall and evaporation, in addition to observed differences in soil properties. Hourly soil moisture data were successfully modelled (R2 > 0.85), both UC and in the IR, yet with the inclusion of a simple formulation for canopy interception for the former. The results provide insight into how olive trees change hydrological processes in their neighbourhood. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Spatio–temporal statistical models have been proposed for the analysis of the temporal evolution of the geographical pattern of mortality (or incidence) risks in disease mapping. However, as far as we know, functional approaches based on Hilbert-valued processes have not been used so far in this area. In this paper, the autoregressive Hilbertian process framework is adopted to estimate the functional temporal evolution of mortality relative risk maps. Specifically, the penalized functional estimation of log-relative risk maps is considered to smooth the classical standardized mortality ratio. The reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) norm is selected for definition of the penalty term. This RKHS-based approach is combined with the Kalman filtering algorithm for the spatio–temporal estimation of risk. Functional confidence intervals are also derived for detecting high risk areas. The proposed methodology is illustrated analyzing breast cancer mortality data in the provinces of Spain during the period 1975–2005. A simulation study is performed to compare the ARH(1) based estimation with the classical spatio–temporal conditional autoregressive approach.  相似文献

Holocene and late Pleistocene alluvial sequences of the mid-Medjerda floodplain (Northern Tunisia) reveal three types of soils with gradual transitions: Fluvisols (Calcaric), Cambisols (Calcaric) and Calcic Luvisols (Chromic). Stratigraphic cross-correlations, palaeomagnetic secular variation, and 14C and IRSL dating enable detailed information about ages and durations of soil formation in the floodplain.Weakly developed Fluvisols (Calcaric) commonly reveal late Holocene ages with soil formation durations lasting between 100 and 300 years. Hence, Holocene soil formation is detectable in the exposures from durations of around 100 years onwards. Cambisols show predominantly mid-Holocene ages. The durations of soil formation are between 800 and 5000 years. Calcic Luvisols (Chromic) feature late Pleistocene ages, with durations of soil formation between 10,000 and 40,000 years.Profile Development Indices were computed from simple field parameters like soil structure, soil colour, horizon thickness and leaching features. The derived development indices show good correlation (R2 = 0.804) with the calculated durations of soil formation. Field parameters are well suited for a quantitative development index of Holocene soil formation, even if very weak developed soils are predominant. The study shows that maturity stages of Holocene alluvial soils in a homogeneous Mediterranean environment are predominantly driven by soil formation duration.  相似文献

The sequence of Late-glacial and Holocene alluvial sedimentation in the middle Caquetá River Basin of Colombian Amazonia is described, based on the study of the sediments and palynology of several river bank sections and on 30 radiocarbon dates. An early Late-glacial sedimentation cycle is recognised, followed by a minor late Late-glacial erosion phase. The Holocene valley fill consists of grey clays (often present in the lower part of the sections) deposited in open water and silty clays often with faint yellow mottling, deposited under a regime of seasonal flooding. The base of the Holocene sections is formed by sands, where exposed. In two places the transition of sand to open-water grey clay was dated around 10 000 yr BP and there is a suggestion that open water may have been more common at the beginning of the Holocene than later, when sedimentation by seasonal flooding became important. In many places much of the earlier Holocene sediments may have been removed by erosion and replaced by younger sediments, by a process of lateral aggradation. A considerable part of the present valley fill is younger than ca. 3500 yr. However, in several places older Holocene sediments are found, apparently only little affected by later erosion, lying below younger varzea silty clays. During the Holocene more organic sediments were formed in periods with reduced river discharge, related to drier climates in the Andes and possibly in Amazonia. These dry periods, deduced from data in the Caquetá River area, correspond well with dry phases in other parts of northwestern South America (e.g. between approximately 2700-1900 yr BP and approximately 3200-3800 yr BP). Rates of average net sedimentation, calculated from dated sections that apparently lack major hiatuses caused by erosion, were high in the lower Holocene, low during the middle Holocene and increase again in the upper Holocene. Levee deposits became coarser and the high river level of the Caquetá increased during the late Holocene. These phenomena may be explained by the increasing influence of man on the vegetation cover in the Andean headwater areas and possibly also in the Amazonian catchment area of the Caquetá River.  相似文献

The late Quaternary history of the middle Caquetá River area in Colombia, northwestern Amazonia is described, based on observations of river bank sections, radiocarbon dates and palynological analyses of organic layers in floodplain and low terrace sediments of the Caquetá River. It is shown that the Late Pleistocene and Holocene climatic changes that took place in the Andean Cordilleras, were related to the depositional and erosional history of the Caquetá River in the Colombian Amazonian lowlands. The low terrace sediments consist of sandy and gravelly deposits covered by clays that sometimes contain lenses of peaty material. From these organic low terrace sediments, seven finite radiocarbon dates were obtained of Middle Pleniglacial age, between 56 000 and 30 000 yr BP. The coarse textured basal deposits of the low terrace apparently stem from the early part of the Middle Pleniglaciai period, during which the effective rainfall in the Andes was relatively high and the Andean glaciers had a considerable extension. Palynological data from silty sediments with organic remains at one site, show an interval when drier and more open types of vegetation on poor soils must have covered a larger area than today, but Amazonian forest was still the dominating type of vegetation. This interval might correspond to one of the Middle Pleniglacial savanna intervals from eastern Amazonia (Carajas). No organic sediments from the Upper Pleniglacial period were found and hence radiocarbon dates were not obtained. In the Andes this period had a very cold climate with low effective rainfall and in the east Amazonian Carajas area it is characterised by the relative extension of open savanna vegetation. The river run-off and sediment transport must have been much lower than in the Middle Pleniglacial and the Caquetá River cut itself down in its own sediments. Two Late-glacial radiocarbon datings obtained at one site (ca. 12 500 yr BP) indicate the existence of a Late-glacial sedimentation phase, separated from the Holocene sequence by a minor erosional phase. Organic layers in the Holocene floodplain sediments yielded 28 radiocarbon dates between 10 000 and 355 yr BP. Holocene sedimentation started with the rapid deposition of (sandy) clay possibly in a partly permanently inundated Caquetá valley. During the major part of the Holocene (silty) clays were deposited, with a dominant seasonal inundation cycle.  相似文献

We analyzed the evolution of surface relative humidity (RH) and specific humidity (q) in Spain, based on complete records available from the State Meteorological Agency of Spain. The surface RH records used span the period 1920–2011, but because of spatial and temporal constraints in the dataset we used a subset of the data, covering the period 1961–2011. The subset contained 50 monthly series of RH, which were created through a process of quality control, reconstruction and homogenization. The data shows that there was a large decrease in RH over mainland Spain from 1961 to 2011, which was greatest in spring and summer. In contrast, there was no overall change in the specific humidity in this period, except in spring, when an increase was observed. The decrease in RH affected the entire country, but the changes in specific humidity were less homogeneous. For specific humidity there was a general increase in the northern and eastern parts of Spain, whereas negative trends dominated in the central and southern areas, mainly during the summer months. The results suggest that an increase in the water holding capacity of the atmosphere as a consequence of warming during recent decades has not been accompanied by an increase in the surface water vapor content, probably because the supply of water vapor from the main terrestrial and oceanic areas has been constrained. We discuss the implications of these findings for evapotranspiration processes, precipitation and water management in Spain.  相似文献
