Soil contamination from urban and industrial activity: example of the mining district of Linares (southern Spain) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

The Linares region (southern Spain) has been subjected to two important sources of pollution: the intensive mining works and
the urban-industrial activity. To obtain a geochemical characterisation of the soil, 31 trace elements were analysed and 669
soil samples were collected. By means of clustering analysis, we identified groups of elements and grid squares in which relations
could be established concerning soil lithology, urban and industrial activities and the degree of pollution impact; in addition,
we were able to characterise the geochemical background of the study area. The multivariate study led us to identify four
factors. Particularly important was factor 2, which represented the elements associated with mineral paragenesis (Cu, Pb,
As, Co, Mn, Zn, Sn, Ba). This factor also contains elements related with an urban-industrial activity, such as Pb, Cu, Zn,
As and Ba. Furthermore, we identified factor 4, associating Ni, V and Cr, and which is related to the use of fuels. 相似文献

Abstract. Eupolymnia nebulosa (Terebellidae) and Hermodke carunculata (Amphinomidae) were compared with respect to rates of oxygen consumption in response to acute temperature and salinity variation. E. nebulosa , but not H. carunculata , demonstrated significant temperature sensitivity correlating with the former species' restriction to habitats that are temperature variation. In contrast, H. carunculata occurs where such fluctuation is common. Oxygen uptake in both species was responsive to dilution of the medium whereas only H. carunculata demonstrated insensitivity to increased salinity under most temperature conditions. 相似文献

Cd, Pb and Cu concentrations, dissolved and total, have been determined in the German Bight. In 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1983 water samples were collected at 215 sampling stations. In the 1983 mission samples were also analysed for Ni and Co. The samples were filtered and acidified immediately after collection. Analysis was performed by voltammetry.The analytical data indicate that a net portion of the Cd, the Weser being a distinct source for it, will cross the estuarine zone. Open sea Cd levels in the German Bight are about a factor 10 higher than North Atlantic values. Pb, being transported mainly with the suspended particulate phase (up to 99.5%), is better eliminated by sedimentation in the estuaries. Ni and Cu occur mainly in the dissolved phase. Pollution by Co is distinct in the Elbe, but the output is rapidly diluted to background contents below 10 ng kg−1. An interpretation of the results from the different years yields a rather steady state situation in the German Bight. 相似文献

Two distinct series of slumps deform the upper part of the sedimentary sequence along the continental margin of the Levant.
One series is found along the base of the continental slope, where it overlies the disrupted eastern edge of the Messinian
evaporites. The second series of slumps transects the continental margin from the shelf break to the Levant Basin. It seemed
that the two series were triggered by two unrelated, though contemporaneous, processes. The shore-parallel slumps were initiated
by basinwards flow of the Messinian salt, that carried along the overlying Plio-Quaternary sediments. Seawater that percolated
along the detachment faults dissolved the underlying salt to form distinctly disrupted structures. The slope-normal slumps
are located on top of large canyons that cut into the pre-Messinian sedimentary rocks. A layer of salt is found in the canyons,
and the Plio-Quaternary sediments were deposited on that layer. The slumps are bounded by large, NW-trending faults where
post-Messinian faulted offset was measured. We presume that the flow of the salt in the canyons also drives the slope-normal
slumps. Thus thin-skinned halokynetic processes generated the composite post-Tortonian structural patterns of the Levant margin.
The Phoenician Structures are a prime example of the collapse of a distal continental margin due to the dissolution of a massive

Faults at the proximal continental shelf off Atlit,central Israel,and their neotectonic significance

A seismic reflection survey was conducted in the proximal shelf off Atlit, western Mt. Carmel, Israel, to clarify the regional neotectonic regime. The Atlit promontory is built of late Pleistocene eolianite ridge, truncated by faults at its northern extension. The seismic survey encountered two series of faults, trending N—S and NW—SE, offsetting the upper strata by 1–5 m. Faulted escarpments of the N—S faults are barely covered by sediments, suggesting that they are tectonically active. The escarpments of the NW—SE faults are rarely exposed, suggesting their late Pleistocene age. A submerged undamaged Neolithic well near a major NW trending fault indicates that the structural stability of these faults during the last 8000 years can be presumed. 相似文献

The Gulf of Cádiz area has been extensively surveyed in recent years and several gas-related fluid escape seafloor structures
have been identified. In this study, gravity cores, collected during the ANASTASYA/00 and ANASTASYA/01 cruises, on mud volcanoes,
hemipelagic sediments and dredged material from diapiric structures, have been studied. A comparative mineralogical analysis
by XRD and SEM of samples from different areas has been performed in order to determine whether there is a characteristic
mineralogy related to these fluid escape structures, and also to determine the origin of the mud matrix and constrain the
depth of the parent units. The mineralogical analysis reflects the different origins of the different units described in the
cores: hemipelagic material of the slope, clays that underlie the mud volcanoes and are discharged at the sea bottom surface,
and authigenic and diagenetic minerals possibly involved in the anaerobic oxidation of methane in the mud volcano sediments. 相似文献

The community structure of the decapod crustaceans inhabiting Le Danois Bank (Cantabrian Sea, NE Atlantic Ocean) was studied on two cruises performed in October 2003 and April 2004. Otter and beam-trawls were used to collect this fauna. At depths ranging between 455 and 1048 m, we found distinct decapod assemblages on the bank summit and deeper in the inner basin (between the bank and the continental shelf). The faunal discontinuity between these groups appeared at around 600 m (e.g. between 612 and 642 m in the basis of species replacement). The summit assemblage was characterized by low diversity (in terms of number and relative abundances of species) and by the dominance of hermit crabs (Pagurus alatus, Anapagurus laevis, Pagurus excavatus), the crangonid Pontophilus spinosus and the squat lobster Munida sarsi. Species characterizing the deeper assemblage, which was richer in terms of diversity, were Munida tenuimana, Parapagurus pilosimanus, Pontophilus norvegicus, the crab Geryon trispinosus and a number of bathypelagic shrimps (Sergia robusta, Acanthephyra pelagica and Pasiphaea tarda). Changes in decapod composition characterized by multidimensional scaling analyses were correlated with different variables, e.g. %mud and %organic matter (OM), temperature and salinity close to the bottom. Among those the %OM and %mud in sediments affected decapod distributions the most. The summit of the bank was covered by fine sediments with low proportion of mud (13.9–29.3%) and OM (2.55–3.50%). By contrast, sediment of the inner basin had a higher proportion of OM and mud (64.1–84.2%; 6.26–7.00%, respectively). The low proportion of mud at the summit of Le Danois Bank may explain the absence or scarcity of burrowing species (e.g. the lobster Nephrops norvegicus, the shrimps Calocaris macandreae and Alpheus glaber and the crab Goneplax rhomboides), that are dominant at similar depths (400–500 m) in the upper muddy assemblage on the mainland-continental slope in the Bay of Biscay (44–46°N). The dominance of certain species on the summit of submarine mounts can probably be related to their biology and feeding ecology. For example, pagurids are deposit feeders, even consuming marine snow (e.g. Chl-a identified in guts of Pagurus alatus), and they have low gut fullness (probably indicating a capacity to withstand long periods under starvation), that would favour their adaptability to a rather unpredictable habitat such as Le Danois Bank summit. Regarding prey availability, zooplankton/micronekton and infauna distributed around Le Danois Bank showed different depth-related patterns. Among zooplankton, mesopelagic decapods, mysids, and fishes were absent at the bank summit, while euphausiids exhibited high abundances over the summit. No significant trends with depth were found for infauna abundance, and for instance polychaete densities were similar both at the summit and the inner basin. Therefore, prey availability was lower for summit assemblages regarding zooplankton/micronekton. Soupy and mousse-like fabrics are disturbance sedimentary features that result from the dissociation of gas hydrate, a process
that releases water. During the core retrieval process, soupy and mousse-like fabrics are produced in the gas hydrate-bearing
sediments due to changes in pressure and temperature conditions. Therefore, the identification of soupy and mousse-like fabrics
can be used as a proxy for the presence of gas hydrate in addition to other evidence, such as pore water freshening or anomalously
cool temperature. We present here grain-size results, mineralogical composition and magnetic susceptibility data of soupy
and mousse-like samples from the southern Hydrate Ridge (Cascadia accretionary complex) acquired during Leg 204 of the Ocean
Drilling Program. In order to study the relationship between sedimentary texture and the presence of gas hydrates, we have
compared these results with the main textural and compositional data available from the same area. Most of the disturbed analyzed
samples from the summit and the western flank of southern Hydrate Ridge show a mean grain size coarser than the average mean
grain size of the hemipelagic samples from the same area. The depositional features of the sediments are not recognised due
to disturbance. However, their granulometric statistical parameters and distribution curves, and magnetic susceptibility logs
indicate that they correspond to a turbidite facies. These results suggest that gas hydrates in the southern Hydrate Ridge
could form preferentially in coarser grain-size layers that could act as conduits feeding gas from below the BSR. Two samples
from the uppermost metres near the seafloor at the summit of the southern Hydrate Ridge show a finer mean grain-size value
than the average of hemipelagic samples. They were located where the highest amount of gas hydrates was detected, suggesting
that in this area the availability of methane gas was high enough to generate gas hydrates, even within low-permeability layers.
The mineralogical composition of the soupy and mousse-like sediments does not show any specific characteristic with respect
to the other samples from the southern Hydrate Ridge. 相似文献
