In the paper, influence of extratropical circulation features on Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall (ISMR) is examined. Energetics of extratropics, north of Indian subcontinent for deficient and non-deficient ISMR years, during two periods 1951–1978 and 1979–2005, are calculated and critically analyzed. It is observed that for the period 1951–1978, only two out of the 10 energetics parameters, viz., the zonal available potential energy (high) and conversion of zonal kinetic energy to eddy kinetic energy (low) differed significantly in JJA months of the deficient years from that of the non-deficient years. However, during the 1979–2005 period, as many as six out of the 10 energetics parameters, viz., eddy available potential energy, zonal available potential energy, eddy kinetic energy, generation of zonal available potential energy, conversion of zonal available potential energy to zonal kinetic energy and conversion of zonal kinetic energy to eddy kinetic energy differed significantly in JJA months of the deficient years from that of the non-deficient years. These results confirm growing influence of the transient stationary waves in deficient years after the climate shift year, 1979. Analysis of energetics parameters of the pre-monsoon season of the two periods also reveals similar results. This suggests that forcings apparently responsible for energetics in JJA months of the deficient years of the later period were present even before the advent of Indian summer monsoon season.  相似文献

Abstract— Piplia Kalan is an equilibrated eucrite consisting of 60–80 vol% lithic clasts in a subordinate brecciated matrix. Ophitic/subophitic clasts fall into two groups: finer‐grained lithology A and coarser‐grained lithology B. Very fine‐grained clasts with equigranular textures (lithology C) also occur and originally were hypocrystalline in texture. The variety of materials represented in Piplia Kalan suggests cooling histories ranging from quenching to slower crystallization. Despite textural differences, clasts and matrix have similar mineral and bulk compositions. Thus, Piplia Kalan is probably best classified as a genomict breccia that could represent fragments of a single lava flow or shallow intrusive body, including fine‐grained or glassy outer margin and more slowly cooled coarser‐grained interior. Bulk composition suggests that the meteorite is most closely related to the main group eucrites, but it probably was affected by minor amounts of fractional crystallization. Piplia Kalan displays evidence of an early shock event, including brecciated matrix and areas of lithic clasts that contain very fine‐grained, granular pyroxene between deformed feldspar laths. The meteorite also displays evidence of at least one episode of extensive thermal metamorphism: hypocrystalline materials are recrystallized to hornfelsic textures and minerals throughout the meteorite contain abundant inclusions that are relatively large in size. Veins of brown glass transect both clasts and matrix and indicate a second, postmetamorphism shock event.  相似文献

This study examined hourly temperature data of two locations of Mumbai metropolitan city. One data point (Coloba, Mumbai) is in centre of the city and the other one (Santacruz, Mumbai) is at the airport. The study finds that there were many occasions when night-time hourly temperatures over the city centre were considerably higher than that of the airport, even though temperature at the time of sunset at both the places was nearly same. In this study, the occasions, when hourly night-time temperature over city was more than that of the airport by objectively defined threshold value (3.0 °C in this study) for most of the hours in the night, were termed as heat island events. Analysis of the study reveals that these events are mostly confined to November–February months. The study also found that frequency of such events has doubled in recent two decades in comparison to the earlier two decades.  相似文献

In this article we compile 108 national and international studies on global climate change, each projecting a quantitative impact on global surface-air temperature due to a doubling of the atmospheric CO2 concentration. These predictions, documented between 1980 and 1995, are based primarily on climate-modeling research, including radiative-convective, energy-balance, and general circulation models. Collectively over the past 15 years, the average (mean) temperature change projection due to doubled CO2 is +2.62°C, with a range of 0.16–8.7°C. General circulation models tend to estimate slightly higher values (2.98°C), compared with radiative-convective models (1.98°C) and energy-balance models (2.54°C). During the years 1980 through 1995, an increasing trend in predictions is noticed, although the mean temperature change prediction each year has remained fairly consistent near 2–3°C. These findings suggest that the estimated sensitivity of the climate system continues to remain comparable to the range calculated in earlier studies. However, tremendous advancements in the capacity of climate models continue to reveal important uncertainties in the dynamic nature of global atmospheric interactions. The predictions continue to validate the need for a global policy relating to human influence on global climate change.  相似文献

A small isolated mafic body occurs to the south of Sirohi near village Daba within the Neoproterozoic Erinpura Granite in the southern sector of the Proterozoic Delhi Fold Belt in NW India. This mafic body occurs close to a 100 m wide NE–SW trending shear zone (Daba Shear Zone) which overprints the felsic rock fabrics. Further south, a small mafic body near village Kui was also sampled which forms the southern limit of the Phulad Ophiolite Suite which is a 300 km long major NE–SW trending lineament, described as Western Margin Fault. Some of the lithological components of the Daba mafic body show locally preserved magmatic fabric but completely transformed mineralogies under lower amphibolites facies metamorphic conditions where two-stage deformation has been inferred. Magnetic fabric analysis underlines a general correspondence of structural elements in both felsic and mafic lithologies. Binary correlations of Zr with other high field strength elements underline fractionation as the main process in the evolution of Daba and Kui rocks. Geochemical characteristics indicate subalkaline tholeiitic basalt affinity for these mafic rocks. The trace element characteristics, such as enriched LIL elements, high Th, absence of negative Nb anomalies and depletion in compatible elements in Daba samples suggest an enriched mantle source and lower degree of melting. The trace and rare earth element characteristics for Kui (Th anomaly, Nb–Ta trough and less spiked patterns, flat REE trends) indicate derivation from a refractory mantle source affected by fluids derived from subduction. Distinct differences in trace and REE characteristics between Daba and Kui can be interpreted in terms of different stages of ophiolite development.  相似文献
