In many biological counting problems it is known that under ideal conditions repeated counts follow a Poisson distribution. This is true, for example, for counts of bacteria in a number of equal volumes from a well-mixed suspension. In order to indicate whether counts show more variability than can usually be expected from a Poisson distribution it is customary to use the index of dispersion. A BASIC-program written for personal computers is given which allows a rapid statistical evaluation of count data by means of the dispersion index. The program can be used, moreover, for some other tasks, too, such as the computation of confidence bounds, the testing of hypotheses and the planning of counting processes. 相似文献

It is shown by the example of the sperm vitality test how a probit-analysis has to be made if the initial data are distorted by a blank value (natural range of action) and if, in addition, a portion of resistent test objects is assumed in the tested material. On the basis of the likelihood-quotient it is decided whether a rate of resistance in the model statement must be taken into account. The adequacy of the extended probit-model is tested with the χ2 adaptation test. The influence of the model choice on the estimated LC50 is demonstrated by an example of data. 相似文献

The Poisson distribution is required for the evaluation of counting results. Its availability can be checked with the dispersion index and graphically with a probability sheet. It is shown by an example that with increasing particle density the deviation from the Poisson distribution increases and how these anomalies become visible in the dispersion index and the per-cent error of the count. For the calculation of confidence intervals, a simple approximation formula and the asymptotic behaviour with growing random sample size are represented. The phenomena of over- and under-distribution as well as of “contagion” (Neyman distribution) are mentioned, and the high-speed method of counting according to Tippett and the variance-analytical evaluation methods are referred to. 相似文献
