The natural radioactivity due to radium, thorium, and potassium in building material samples contribute to the radiation dose received by human beings significantly. It is essential to evaluate the activity levels of these nuclides for the assessment of natural radiation dose. Activity concentrations of the gamma emitting primordial radionuclides 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K were measured using high resolution gamma spectrometry technique with high purity germanium (HPGe) detector in building materials: sand, brick, granite, cement and rock, collected from various areas of Gulbarga and Koppal districts. The standard ASTM procedure was followed for the sample preparation. The distribution of radionuclides and variation in activity concentration depend upon the rock formation and the geological properties of the region. The activity of the three radionuclides, 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K, were found to be in the range of 3.1–227.1, 1.6–111, and 23.2–1505 Bq/kg, respectively. The dose related radiological parameters were also calculated for all the samples and the observations show that the activity concentrations of the radionuclides are well within the UNSCEAR limits.  相似文献

In this paper the approach for automatic road extraction for an urban region using structural, spectral and geometric characteristics of roads has been presented. Roads have been extracted based on two levels: Pre-processing and road extraction methods. Initially, the image is pre-processed to improve the tolerance by reducing the clutter (that mostly represents the buildings, parking lots, vegetation regions and other open spaces). The road segments are then extracted using Texture Progressive Analysis (TPA) and Normalized cut algorithm. The TPA technique uses binary segmentation based on three levels of texture statistical evaluation to extract road segments where as, Normalized cut method for road extraction is a graph based method that generates optimal partition of road segments. The performance evaluation (quality measures) for road extraction using TPA and normalized cut method is compared. Thus the experimental result show that normalized cut method is efficient in extracting road segments in urban region from high resolution satellite image.  相似文献

Bisphenol-A is one of the highest volumes of chemicals produced worldwide and released into the atmosphere each year. Recent extensive literature has raised concerns about its possible endocrine-disrupting effect in animals and humans. A bacterium having high tolerance of bisphenol-A (1000 mg L?1) was isolated from agriculture soil of Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, India, and identified as Virgibacillus sp. KU4 by 16S ribosomal RNA sequence analysis. Bisphenol-A removal efficiency of this strain was measured as greater than 92% at seventh day of incubation in a basal mineral medium supplemented with 1000 mg L?1 at seventh day. Gas chromatography analysis showed that 1000 mg L?1 BPA in distilled water was degraded by the Virgibacillus sp. KU4 in an efficient way. A 70 ± 3% bisphenol-A degradation was observed in the suspended cell pellet-mediated degradation study, where distilled water supplemented with 1000 mg L?1 bisphenol-A was sole carbon and energy source for bacterial growth. Further, Virgibacillus sp. KU4 is expected to be a candidate as a biological cleaner of BPA in the environment.  相似文献
