Estimation of the magnitude of reservoir induced seismicity is essential for seismic risk analysis of dam sites. Different geological and empirical methods dealing with the mechanism or magnitude of such earthquakes are available in the literature. In this study, a method based on an artificial neural network utilizing radial basis functions (RBF network) was employed to analyze the problem. The network has only two input neurons, one representing the maximum depth of the reservoir and the other being a comprehensive parameter representing reservoir geometry. Magnitudes of the induced earthquakes predicted using the RBF network were compared with the actual recorded data. Compared with the conventional statistical approach, the proposed method gives a better prediction, both in terms of coefficients of correlation and error rates.  相似文献

The main goal of this article is to decluster Iranian plateau seismic catalog by the epidemic-type aftershock sequence (ETAS) model and compare the results with some older methods. For this purpose, Iranian plateau bounded in 24°–42°N and 43°–66°E is subdivided into three major tectonic zones: (1) North of Iran (2) Zagros (3) East of Iran. The extracted earthquake catalog had a total of 6034 earthquakes (Mw?>?4) in the time span 1983–2017. The ETAS model is an accepted stochastic approach for seismic evaluation and declustering earthquake catalogs. However, this model has not yet been used to decluster the seismic catalog of Iran. Until now, traditional methods like the Gardner and Knopoff space–time window method and the Reasenberg link-based method have been used in most studies for declustering Iran earthquake catalog. Finally, the results of declustering by the ETAS model are compared with result of Gardner and Knopoff (Bull Seismol Soc Am 64(5):1363–1367, 1974), Uhrhammer (Earthq Notes 57(1):21, 1986), Gruenthal (pers. comm.) and Reasenberg (Geophys Res 90:5479–5495, 1985) declustering methods. The overall conclusion is difficult, but the results confirm the high ability of the ETAS model for declustering Iranian earthquake catalog. Use of the ETAS model is still in its early steps in Iranian seismological researches, and more parametric studies are needed.  相似文献

Insufficiently calibrated forest parameters of the Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) may introduce uncertainties to water resource projections in forested watersheds. In this study, we improved SWAT forest parameterization and phosphorus cycling representations to better simulate forest ecosystems in the St. Croix River basin, and we further examined how those improvements affected model projections of streamflow, sediment, and nitrogen export under future climate conditions. Simulations with improved forest parameters substantially reduced model estimates of water, sediment, and nitrogen fluxes relative to those based on default parameters. Differences between improved and default projections can be attributed to the enhanced representation of forest water consumption, nutrient uptake, and protection of soil from erosion. Better representation of forest ecosystems in SWAT contributes to constraining uncertainties in water resource projections. Results of this study highlight the importance of improving SWAT forest ecosystem representations in projecting delivery of water, sediment, and nutrients from land to rivers in response to climate change, particularly for watersheds with large areas of forests. Improved forest parameters and the phosphorus weathering algorithms developed in this study are expected to help enhance future applications of SWAT to investigate hydrological and biogeochemical consequences of climate change.  相似文献

The state of knowledge and outstanding challenges and opportunities in global water cycle observations, research and modeling are briefly reviewed to set the stage for the reasons behind the new thrusts promoted by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) as Grand Challenges to be addressed on a 5- to 10-year time frame. Those focused on water are led by the GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Exchanges) project. A number of GEWEX science questions are being brought forward within GEWEX and the WCRP under guidance of the Joint Scientific Committee. Here, we describe what are some imperatives and opportunities for major advancements in observations, understanding, modeling and product development for water resources and climate that will enable a wide range of climate services and inform decisions on water resources management and practices.  相似文献

TBM Tunnelling in Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Bearing Ground and its Solutions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In the late December of 2006 while Zagros tunnel project in western Iran was advancing according to the schedule, a sudden rush of groundwater accompanied by a nauseating odor similar to that of rotten egg intruded the tunnel. Some workers complained from eye and respiratory tract irritation. The presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas as high as 200 ppm was soon tested positive by gas detectors and subsequently the ventilation fans (2*110 kW) speed were boosted to 1,450 rpm in order to dilute the gas concentration to safe levels (10 ppm). Nonetheless, the work continued at a rather moderate pace for another 11 days and 134 more meters excavated in the gas infested grounds before 4 men died during a damage assessment survey of the TBM after a power failure that had forced the tunnel ventilation system to temporarily shut down. This paper is to discuss hazards and geological sources of H2S gas in of Zagros Water Conveyance Tunnel and to recommend practical solutions to prevent or mitigate the gas destructive effects on human and machinery, as well.  相似文献

A novel ionic liquid carbon paste electrode has been developed using sol–gel/Au nanoparticle (SGAN) involving (NS)2 compound of N,N′-di-(cyclopentadienecarbaldehyde)-1, 2-di (o-aminophenylthio) ethane (CCAE) as an appropriate neutral ion-carrier for ultrahigh-sensitive potentiometric determination of Ag(I). Colloidal gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) also well dispersed self-assembly into the 3-(mercaptopropyl)-trimethoxysilane (MPTS)-derived sol–gel network through Au–S covalent bond engendering continuous and super-conductive nanoporous three-dimensional array. The room-temperature ionic liquid, 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMIM.PF6), was applied as a super-conductive pasting agent (binder). The SGAN/CCAE/IL-CPE exhibited a significantly enhanced sensitivity and preferential selectivity toward Ag(I) over a wide concentration range of 2.4 × 10?9 to 2.2 × 10?2 mol L?1 (R 2 = 0.9996) with a lower limit of detection of 7.9 × 10?10 M and a Nernstian slope of 58.5 (±0.3) mV decade?1. The electrode has a short response time of ~5 s and long-time durability of about 2 months without any considerable divergence in potentials. Moreover, the potentiometric examinations could be carried out within the wide pH range of 3.5–9.5. Eventually, the practical utility of the proposed Ag(I)-sensor was evaluated by volumetric titration of AgNO3 solution by sodium chloride and recovery of silver content in some real samples using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy as a confident reference.  相似文献
