Abstract— Jull et al. propose an alternative interpretation of our depth vs. 14C data measured on a peat core from the central Tunguska impact site (Rasmussen et al., 1999). We find that the proposed alternative is untenable.  相似文献

Twenty-two peat samples collected at different depths of a core including the layer affected by the 1908 explosion in Tunguska area of Central Siberia, Russia, and three basalt samples collected near the site, are analyzed by ICP-MS. The concentrations of Pd, Ni, Co, ΣREE, Ti and Sr in the event layers are 4–35 times higher than the background values in the normal layers. The variation of Pd is closely related to Ni, Co and ΣREE in the event layers, but not to these elements in the normal layers. It indicates that these excess elements came from the same source, i.e. the Tunguska explosion body. In addition, the patterns of Cl-chondrite-normalized REE in the event layers ((La/Yb)N ≈2–3) are much flatter than those in the normal layers ((La/Yb)N ≈7–143), and differ from those in the three basalt samples. The concentrations of REE in the three basalt samples are tens times higher than those in the event layers. It may be inferred that these excess elements could not be produced by the contamination of the terrestrial material, but probably by the Tunguska explosion body. Additionally, the ratios of Ti/Ni and Sr/Co in the event layers are close to those in comet. It implies that the solid part of the explosion body was compositionally similar to carbonaceous chondrites (Cl) and more probably a small comet. In terms of the Pd excess fluxes in the explosion area, it can be estimated that the celestial body that exploded over Tunguska in 1908 weighed more than 107 tons, corresponding to a radius of > 126 m.  相似文献

Results of polarimetric observations of a high-albedo asteroid 64 Angelina obtained in the phase-angle range from 0.8° to 24.3° are presented. The observations were carried out in the period from September 28 to October 9, 2008, and on November 15, 2011, and September 18, 2012, with the 1.25-m and 2.6-m telescopes of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory equipped with a five-color double-beam photopolarimeter and a single-channel photometer-polarimeter, respectively. Our observations confirm the polarimetric opposition effect in asteroid 64 Angelina at small phase angles and well agree with the other observations. The obtained results are discussed in terms of the currently available models of the light scattering by regolith surfaces.  相似文献

A model for magnetic reconnection in high-conductivity plasma in the solar corona is analyzed in a strong-magnetic-field approximation. The model includes a Syrovatskii current layer and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) discontinuities attached to the ends of the layer. A two-dimensional analytical solution for the magnetic field is used to compute the distributions of the plasma flow velocity and plasma density in the vicinity of the corresponding current configuration. The properties of jumps in the density and velocity along the attached discontinuities are studied. Based on the character of the variations of the magnetic field and plasma flows at the MHD discontinuities, it is shown that, with the parameter values considered, an MHDdiscontinuity can include regions of trans-Alfvénic, fast, and slowshocks. The results obtained could be useful to explain the presence of “super-hot” (with effective electron temperatures exceeding 10 keV) plasma in solar flares. Other possible applications of the theory of discontinuous flows near regions of magnetic reconnection to analogous non-stationary phenomena in astrophysical plasmas are noted.  相似文献

Problematic arumberia-type structures are widespread in Upper Proterozoic sedimentary rocks deposited in depositional environments subject to periodic desiccation and fluctuating salinity. Here we report two new occurrences of arumberia-type structures in the Krutikha Member of the Upper Vendian Chernyi Kamen Formation on the western slope of the Central Urals (Us??va River) and the Zigan Formation of the Asha Group in the South Urals (new road Sterlitamak-Beloretsk). The results of the study of these structures significantly expand paleontological characteristics of the Upper Vendian non-marine rocks and allow us to re-examine the paleontological importance of the hastily forgotten group of arumberia-type organisms. We distinguished six varieties of arumberia-type structures that for the sake of convenience were given formal Latin names in binominal nomenclature although they are not biological species. Two species??Arumberia banski and A. vindhyanensis??were erected by previous researchers, whereas the A. beckeri, A. ollii, A. usvaensis, and A. multykensis varieties are recognized for the first time. Despite similarity to erosional structures on the bottom of turbidite beds, erosion does not explain the genesis of the entire spectrum of arumberia-type structures including those preserved on ripple marks, with evidence of soft-body deformation, or with ribbon and filamentous fabric replaced by clay minerals. The diversity of arumberia could be only a manifestation of living systems. The species of Arumberia are distinguished by their different biostratinomy, the distance between the main structural units, the preservation of the main structural units, and the presence of additional structures between the main structural units. Most likely, the diversity of arumberia reflects not only taphonomic, but also ontogenetic and phenotypic variation. The level of morphological complexity and biostratinomic features of arumberia apparently exceed the organization of microbial mats and represent a non-actualistic type of microbial communities. The occurrence in extremely shallow-water depositional setting suggests that arumberia had evolved an adaption to periodic desiccation and that arumberia-type organisms, along with microbial mats, had been an important factor of sediment biostabilization in the Late Vendian non-marine environments.  相似文献
